Chapter 3 (Keegan)
(Keegan's POV)
After a lifetime of being homeschooled for my Alpha training, I can't believe I had to g to public school. It was the last part of my training. I was supposed to socialize. My best friends made it sound that the holy land, but then again, they practically ruled the place. I, however, was not looking forward to it. Who wants to be around a bunch of smelly and loud people with heightened senses?
Not me, that's who.
My mom kissed my cheek and handed me a backpack. She was so excited for me. It was embarrassing. She tucked a loose strand of her jet black hair behind her ear as she tried to adjust Karma on her hip. My little sister squirmed anyway. I smiled and kissed her cheek. She was six, so she knew how to walk already, but she was upset about me leaving so my mom picked her up to try and comfort her. Karma wrapped her arms around my neck and leaned away from my mom. I chuckled as I felt her tiny legs wrap around me.
"Bubba, I don't want you to go," she said softly. It sounded like she was going to cry again.
"Me neither, but I have to baby," I said before I peeled her off of me and set her down. She immediately turned her head into my mom's legs as she sniffled. I looked at my mother.
"Tell father I love him," I said. My dad was really sick, he had been for a while. It was why I'd been training as alpha instead of going to school. Under normal circumstances, I would've attended regular public school and then started my training after I graduated. But these weren't normal circumstances, so they pulled me out of public school after seventh grade and started my alpha training early. Now that it was completely, I had to socialize to practice my alpha graces.
Yeah, it's as lame as it sounds.
With the help of Gregg, Trevor, Asher, and Nick, the first half of school wasn't so bad. I had classes with at least one of them, so they kept me entertained. Even though I was their future alpha, I treated them like we were all on the same level. Friends were all on the same level right? I slid in a chair at lunch as the guys talked about the hottest girls in school. It only made me sigh wistfully. We were all 18. We were supposed to have our mates by now; especially me. With my impending alpha status, I had to find the pack a new Luna also. Ugh! I forgot to grab water. I slipped the change in my pocket and headed for the line again. I looked at my feet as I thought about my future duties.
I ran into someone. It was a girl. I could see that much by the flow of long blonde hair that was heading towards the ground. Here's the thing about me: I'm not a nice person. In fact, I'm a jerk, but for some reason, I was feeling gracious today. I saved her the embarrassment of falling on her ass. I glared down at her until I realized that there were sparks shooting up me arm. I looked at her... really looked at her. Her hair was long and wavy and a dark-ish blonde. She had a flawless complexion and her eyes were a mixture of blue, green, and gray. Her eyes could've held me there forever if she wanted to. She was gorgeous. Her waist felt small and good in my arm. I knew then and there...
She was my mate.
My wolf was telling me so.
But how?! Werewolves mated with other werewolves, not humans, and this girl was definitely human. Sooner than I would have liked, she stepped out of my hold and just stared at me. She crossed her arms over her chest but my eyes were locked on her face. She glared at me. Wait, what? Why was she glaring at me?
