Chapter-13 Nathaniel's obnoxious behaviour
AVYANNA'S POV
"Mmm...mmph..." I grumbled with great efforts as Evander was practically pressing my face into his chest, making me unable to breathe or speak.
"Damn it, Avyanna. How can you be like this? You have no idea how scared I was when Alex told me you were fighting with those girls. Do you have to be so reckless? It's been so long since I cared for someone other than my family, and you are not making it easy for me. I want to protect you, Avyanna, but how am I supposed to do that when you are hell-bent on finding trouble?" He asked me, the emotion in his words, making me pause my struggling.
Did I scare him that much for him to react like this? Was he so concerned for me that he couldn’t control his emotions and actions? But how can this be possible? I haven’t even met him for more than 24 hours, and doesn’t he have a reputation of being a cold-hearted devil?
Then again, he has not even once treated me with anything but care. Does he really care for me that much? I couldn’t help but think as I felt some weird emotions swirling inside my heart.
As if bothered by my lack of response, he created some distance between us before forcing me to look at him as he placed a finger under my chin.
"Why did the council head's son help you? I was pretty much sure that I won't let anything happen to you and will find a way to protect you. He came along and messed everything," He said, his eyes hardening, making me smile at his childishness.
Honestly, from his behavior and words, I wasn't even sure if he was annoyed that I got into trouble or he was annoyed because he wasn't the one who helped me through it.
Is he bothered because he wasn’t able to act as the hero in this scenario? I couldn’t help but think before smiling inside my head.
"Evander, why don't we bring this chat at home? This is school. People will start talking otherwise if they saw their cold and unbothered Mr. Sterling hug a girl out of nowhere," I reminded him, and he looked at me observantly, making me a bit fidgety.
Come on, don’t look at me like that. You unnerve me every time you look at me with that piercing expression. I wanted to say but stopped thinking otherwise.
"I liked the way you called that house your home, and you are right, we will talk about this at home. Anyway, since you are in my next lecture, let's go," He said, and I nodded my head before a question popped inside my head.
"This reminds me, how many subjects do you teach? I saw my timetable, and for some reason, I have most lectures with you?" I couldn't help but ask as I even my position and was about to step out when the door of the room was jerked open.
"Rose, I brought you - oh, Mr. Sterling, you are also here," Cassandra stopped in between as she looked between me and Evander.
"What are you doing here, Cassandra?" I asked to divert her attention, and she nodded at me before throwing what looked like a bag of clothes at me, making me relax.
"I brought you these. Come with me. I'll help you shower in the girls' locker room by the playground, and you can change into these. I am sure you wouldn’t want to go around the school dressed like that," Cassandra said urgently, looking at me hopefully, and I smiled at her thoughtfulness.
"Mr. Sterling, I don't think I will be able to attend the lecture, drenched in the juice like this. Can you give me and Cassandra a fifteen minutes Pass?" I asked Evander, and he nodded his head at me.
"I can do that, but both of you should be back within fifteen minutes. I don't want another teacher complaining to me about my students strolling and having too much fun during study hours," He said, and I nodded my head before smiling at Cassandra.
"Let's go," I told her as soon as we got the pass, leaving Evander behind.
"Jeez, that guy intimidates me," Cassandra commented as soon as we were some distance from the infirmary.
"Who? Mr. Sterling? Why would you say that? I don't think he is intimidating. On the contrary, I think he is quite helpful and polite," I commented, and she scoffed at me.
"Of course, you would say that. You thought it was no problem in fighting Melinda and her tiny group either. Though almost all the girls are head over heels for him, and he is not generally rude to anyone, his cold look scares me to bones,” Cassandra said, and I nodded my head as we walked.
I know what Cassandra was saying was probably true, but for some reason, I don’t think I will ever be able to find him intimidating. If anything, he was quite cute.
‘Yeah, I bet what other alphas and rogues will have to say to you regarding this statement,’ my wolf said, and I rolled my eyes.
“Anyway, I heard the council head's son from the Werewolf community helped you? He is the student representative in this school, and from what I've observed, he is always uptight. I have barely seen him smiling at anyone," Cassandra said, and I smiled at the faint memories of the past.
"I know why he helped me. Actually, I know him from when I was -" I paused when we turned, and I bumped into someone.
Looking up, I squinted my brows when I saw a familiar face.
Wait. Where had I seen him?
Yes, hadn't Cassandra mentioned him? The future alpha of the sinister pack.
What was his name again?
Anyway, what does it have to do with me? This Sinister pack doesn't sound anything pleasing to me after what happened.
"Sorry about that, I wasn’t looking," I said politely and was about to move around him when he stepped in front of me, making me look up at him.
"Is there a problem?" I asked, looking him straight in the eyes, ready to go down with another fight if he messed with me.
"Christian? What do you think you are doing? If you are here to threaten her because of what she did to Melinda, then let me tell you very clearly, that girls deserved that," Cassandra spoke, surprising me a little.
Didn't she say she won't meddle in my business and won’t help me if I got into trouble?
"I..." The guy called Christian started, breaking me from my thoughts as I looked at him, waiting for him to finish.
"I am sorry on behalf of what my pack members did. I will make sure they are punished severely. Please forgive them for their ignorance. I hope we can be friends in the future?" He asked, extending his hand, taking me by surprise again.
Friends? Wasn't he supposed to support his pack members and make life hard for me?
'Well, don't you remember? Cassandra said he is a good person. Maybe he is ashamed of them and just wants to apologize on their behalf?' My wolf said, and I shrugged my shoulders.
"That’s fine now. I wasn’t easy on them either. I just hope they or anyone from your pack don't mess with me uselessly. I am not a saint, Mr. Alpha. People get on my nerves, and I make it to myself to unnerve them and break their bones. I treat people how they treat me. I hope we can study peacefully," I said and was about to extend my hand to shake his when my hand was gripped from behind me, making me turn around as I felt the familiarity.
"Here you are. I have been looking for you since you left with Mr. Sterling. And wait, what are you doing here? Don't mess around with the bad people," he said while looking at Christian, and I had to bite the inside of my cheeks to stop myself from laughing at his annoyed expression.
Seriously? Bad people?
"Bad people? So now I am the bad person in the school? Last time I checked, you are the one who always acts like something is up his ass," Christian retorted before scoffing and looking at me.
"Don't mind his words, Miss?" He asked, and I sighed.
"Avyanna Roosevelt," I said, and he nodded his head.
"Avyanna, please don't mind his words. He has no social life himself, and when someone else is trying to make new friends, he can't help but butt in and destroy things," Christian said, making me knit my brows.
Why would he say it like that? Does he have no friends? How can that be possible?
"First, you left me and now you are talking to other boys in my absence? Do you have no heart? How can you do this to your boyfriend, my love?" He said before practically turning me around to look at him, and I coughed on my saliva as I looked at him bewildered.
"Dude! Seriously? What are you saying?" I almost shrieked while looking around me at Cassandra and Christian, shaking my head wanting to tell them that things weren't like how he was portraying them.
"I am speaking facts, my love. Go get yourself cleaned first. We will talk about our relationship after that, not to forget how you left me without even uttering a word last time," Nathaniel said with a pained expression, his expression making me feel guilty as I had indeed left him without telling him anything about my departure when my mom had found a new job in the Canopy pack.
"Nathan, I am sorry. I had never intended to -" I started, but he shook his head before placing his finger on my lips, making me look at him helplessly.
"I don't want to hear it now. We will have a proper chat on how you broke my heart," He said before looking at me with a pout.
"Hello? As far as I know, I was the one who started the conversation here," Christian stepped in between, looking at me helplessly, and I sighed before looking at him.
"Alpha Christian, as I have said, we are good as long as your pack members don't mess with me. Regarding my friendship, I choose my friends myself. I hope we can stay clear of any trouble," I said, smiling at him politely.
"You heard that dude? She chooses her friends herself, and among all of us, you are not her friend here. Why don't you see yourself out?" Nathaniel said, looking at Christian dangerously, and I placed my hand on his arm, waiting for him to calm down.
“You!” Christian said, looking at Nathaniel before he took a deep breath and looked at me.
"That's okay, Avyanna. I am sure we will be friends soon," Christian said, more like announced as if that was some kind of challenge, and I was about to tell him that he shouldn't be bothering with anything when Nathaniel placed his palm on my hand on his arm before turning me to look at him.
"Can you stop talking and just go already? We have a lot to catch up on. I don't think as my girlfriend you should be talking to other guys. Rather, you should be talking about how you left me," he said, and I sighed before pressing his arm comfortingly.
"You are just exaggerating things, Nathan. I know I was in the wrong, but I wasn't your girlfriend or anything. We were homework buddies and -"
"Cassandra, why don't you take her to the playground to freshen up. Or will you prefer me to go with you?" He asked me with a wink, and I gulped before shaking my head frantically.
"You are a scoundrel," I mumbled under my breath, and he pinched my chin, making me lookup.
"Yes, I am a scoundrel, but only for you. Now go before I prove that I am a bad boy," He said, and before I could say or do anything, he kissed my cheek, making me widen my eyes, and I was about to scold him for doing something so shamelessly in public when my eyes caught Evander's angry eyes who was walking towards us from behind Nathaniel and knowing all too well this wasn't the right time to cause another ruckus, I took Cassandra's hand before starting to move towards the playground.
"Avyanna, Avyanna," Cassandra spoke, but I shook my head, not wanting to stop.
"Not right now, Cassandra. I will explain everything to you once we are out of those boys' sight," I said, my mind going back to Evander's angry eyes.
Even when I have met Nathaniel after so long and he was once my crush, and then I met with Christian, who was considered one of the hottest boys in the school, for some reason, the only person going inside my head was my not-so-brother Evander, and the thought alone was unnerving me.
Why? Because I will have to face him back home, and I don't think I was ready to give him the answers he might demand of me.
"Avyanna, I wasn't going to ask you about what is your deal with the council head's son or how lucky you are that Christian came with a proposal of friendship towards you. Rather, I wanted to tell you that we have been going in the wrong direction. The girls' locker room of the playground is the other way," Cassandra said, and I stopped, making her bump into me before I looked at her sheepishly.
"I am sorry for dragging you for so long. Please show me the way," I said as I looked out of the window while she led the way.
Looking at the changing weather, I realized this must have happened when I had gotten angry in the canteen, and thus, I smiled before taking a deep breath as I closed my eyes for a second, concentrating on my happiness before opening my palm to let the energy envelope the environment.
Opening my eyes, I smiled when the weather changed back to normal.
Sighing loudly, I was about to turn to look at Cassandra when I found her looking at me already.
"What the hell did you just do?" She asked me, her eyes turning a shade darker.
Shit. Just why the hell did I have to perform this while I was still in someone’s company?
