Chapter 5

Talia's POV

In seconds, a knife came flying towards my direction, missing my face by just an inch, burying itself into the head of a guard who stood by the side.

Fear cradled me as I dampened my brows with sweat.

“This one smells odd," the man across the room said, his voice cold as he rose from the chair, “She's weak with no wolf."

“Yes, alpha. She's rogue," Serah declared.

My senses tingled as I tried to comprehend what Serah was up to. Turning to her, I pinched her slightly giving her the, ‘What’s going on look’ with an arched brow.

She blinked her eyes, giving me assuring gaze. “Why a rogue?" He scoffed.

“Because this one escaped Logan's territory alive."

The loud thud of the glass onto the table echoed through the silent room. He turned to us, his red eyes glistened with a new resolve as he walked towards us.

My eyes widened as I noticed the scar across his face. No, it couldn't be, right? It couldn't be him. His broad shoulders, tall physique, the distinctive white and grey strands in his lustrous thick brown hair, his jinxed red eyes. It was none other than Xander Cage, Logan's arch enemy. Sh!t. I just jumped from grass to fire.

As he drew closer, my breath shuddered as I took steps backward. His eyes fixed on me with an undefined intent. “Really?" He asked, intrigued.

“Yes, alpha," Serah assured.

“You've done well. You deserve a reward," he said, turning to her.

“Anything for you, alpha."

“Speak your name," he demanded, fixing his gaze back on me.

My breath stopped as I choked on my saliva.

“Speak!" He yelled.

“T…Ta… Talia Lockwood," I stuttered.

"I am Alpha Xander Cage. Pleasure meeting you,” he said, offering his hand as a smile crept to his face. Shaken by his sudden change, I knew better than to anger him. Accepting his hand, I forced a smile.

"Come have dinner,” he said, motioning his hand toward the hallway. As expected I was to let myself out. Letting out a sigh, I began walking back the same way I came in.

"Talia,” Xander called out to me.

"Yes, alpha,” I responded, uncertain.

"The dinning is this way,” he said, throwing his head towards the other direction.

Blinking my eyes repeatedly, I remained motionless as my brain tried processing his words. Serah, wrapping her arms round me, led me towards the dining with a huge smile on her face. As much as I wanted to leave, I couldn't, not just yet. I needed to find the right opportunity so I wouldn't be caught.

My mouth watered as I saw the luxurious food arranged on the table as we entered the huge dining room. Was this real? An all you can eat buffet was just lying there? My stomach growled loudly, catching the attention of Serah and Xander.

“Help yourself," Xander said.

My heart leaped with joy as I rushed towards the table. My hands grabbed whatever food I could find, stuffing my face as I swallowed down hungrily. I hadn't had a good meal in weeks. Moon knows when I'd have another one.

“Easy now, wouldn't want you choking now would we?" Xander said, staring at me in amusement.

Letting out a loud burp, I palmed my face in embarrassment as I realised the mess I had made of myself.

“Have a seat, Talia. I want to discuss something with you," he said, gesturing toward the chair.

Making myself comfortable, he looked at me intently, "How long have you been in Logan's territory?” He asked, arching a brow.

"I'd estimate it to be a week, I guess,” I responded, uncertain.

"Wonderful," he said excited, “Now you're going to tell me everything you know about Logan."

“Huh?"

“Yes. Oh, don't worry, I don't need his sexual life. Just the normal one. The one involving inside information. You know, like what time he sleeps, trains, how many guards he has in total or estimate, and maybe a clear description of how his mansion is structured and where one might be able to infiltrate."

"I'm sorry,” I said, bowing my head slightly, "I can't give you that information.”

"Maybe you didn't understand what I said,” Alpha Xander said, his expression darkening instantly as his once warm voice grew cold, "I said, you will give me every bit of information you have about Logan Stone."

“I can't give you that," I repeated, timidly.

As much as I wanted to, I couldn't risk it. Logan and Xander have been in war with each other for years now. Neither plans on backing down. Logan a tyrant and Xander mad with power, I definitely did not want to be caught up in such a mess. Most importantly, giving Xander any information about Logan will automatically put Xavier in danger. Although he's an arse, I couldn't deny the connection between us. Was it because of the mate bond?

“Why?" He asked, his face squeezed as he clenched his fists.

“I don't remember anything. I was mostly blindfolded and chained."

“I know my enemy well, and one thing for sure, Logan doesn't blindfold his victims. You're lying," he echoed sternly.

Rising to my feet, I bowed my head, “I apologize, but I am of no use to you. Please, accept my deepest apologies. Thank you for your hospitality."

Growling, Xander pushed the table aside as he lunged himself towards me. His claws emerged as he attempted to scar my face. Twisting my body, I dodged him falling to the side.

Pulling me by my neck, he slammed me against the table, his claws raised as he attempted to stab me. I closed my eyes, my heart pounding against my chest, the world around me came to a pause as a ringing sound filled the background. A cold sweat escaped my forehead as a voice echoed in my mind.

“Remember Talia."

A sudden burst of energy coursed through my body. My hands beamed with light as my body glowed. The sudden power felt like a weight on top of me. My legs grew weak as it filled my body. With a loud scream, I released a huge glow of light, throwing Xander across the room, my eyes widened in shock of my own strength. With shaky breath, I stared at my hands, my glowing body, what was this?

“You're a witch!"
