-Chapter Nine

I blinked my eyes as I felt Daniel's eyes on me. I looked around and found everyone looking at me. I saw Fefe glaring at me as I cowered to the back.

"You even mingle with people worst than your type?" Daniel said as he turned to walk away not waiting for Fefe's reply.

Fefe gritted her teeth in anger as she glared at me. I pouted as I bit my lip nervously.

What did I do bayi?

Meera laughed as she rubbed Fefe comfortingly.

"Don't mind Dann, he always like that" Meera said.

Fefe relatively calmed down as she nodded her head.

"I can't get everything you guys requested for. So, I'll just get two packs of gala and three packs of coke, that should suffice" Meera said.

"Thank you Snr Meera" everyone chorused and Meera laughed before walking away.

"Why did you have to laugh?" Chioma asked as I shrugged.

"Fefe did look funny which can't I laugh. I even thought I was imagining" I replied making Fefe snarl at me while Chioma burst into laughter.

"Really? Imagining? Toke, sometimes I really can't understand you" Chioma added still laughing.

Fefe frowned "Let's get this done already" Fefe said as she continued packing the plates.

I started packing my plates humming the lyrics of 'Crying in the Club' by Camelia Cabello. God knows I love that bitch.

"Ain't nobody in the club, hey, hey"

By the time we finished packing the plates; the gala and Coke Meera ordered for had arrived. Sade distributed it amongst us and Fefe looked at her gala still frowning.

She tore the nylon off as she pushed the sausage roll into her mouth.

"Sorry nah" I said trying to cajole her.

Fefe huffed in reply. She opened her bottle of Coke and downed up and she suddenly choked. I quickly hurried to her side patting her back trying to stifle my laughter.

"You laugh ehn?" Fefe threatened as Chioma let our a cackle before sealing her lips.

"Chi, you wan laugh?" Fefe asked.

Chioma pursed her lips and tried to wear a straight expression. She turned to Fefe to reply her. Seeing her puffed up face, Chioma burst into laughter

That was my trigger as I also burst into laughter. Fefe pursed her lips as she shook her head.

"Clowns" Fefe said trying to stop the smile crawling on her face.

I sat down as I shook my head "Snr Daniel na boss I swear" I said as Fefe snickered.

Deep down, she had never thought there would be someone who will insult her sarcastically and she wouldn't have something to say. She had being left speechless and caught unawares by Daniel's insults.

She couldn't even make a comeback! Fefe snorted on the inside. She would surely get her revenge on the stone cold bastard for embarrassing her.

"Fehintola!" Chioma called as Fefe frowned.

"Why are you calling my full name?" Fefe asked.

"You were staring into space and I thought you we're already affected by Toke's daydreaming and so you too have started daydreaming" Chioma explained.

Fefe threw a glance at me before replying "I live in the real world not in imaginations unlike some people" Fefe replied.

I laughed as I checked my nails. They were already long. I had straight and white nails. Most of the times I didn't bother fixing. My nails were attractive enough.

"Abeg let's go" Chioma said.

By the time we got to the hostel, siesta was almost over. We had to tip toe to our rooms and snuggle under the bed till the bell was rang. Barely had I closed my eyes when I heard the bell.

I want to sleep nah!

We trudged to the class talking about no important things. The class was crowded at the block's notice board.

"What's happening?" I asked.

"They've pasted test timetable" a girl replied as I hurried towards the notice board.

"Ehn? How will we have Maths and Physics on the same day? Are these people crazy?" Chioma asked.

Murmurings arose among the students and we all started complaining.

"Abi awon School Council yeh ti ya werey ni?" Chioma asked again in Yoruba. I laughed as I shook my head and started walking back to the class.

Whatever happened, what was next was to read. I sat down and brought out my Maths textbook.

"Can't we complain to Snr Phil ni?" A girl asked with an slight hiss.

"If you get mind, oya dey go SSS3 block" a guy named Tayo replied as the class roared with laughter.

"Snr Phil is not that scary nah" A girl interjected.

"Who said he's scary? Just go to SSS3 block and complain" Tayo said as the class burst into laughter again.

"Let's be serious, Snr Phil is not scary. He's just slightly unapproachable" Sade said.

"What do you mean slightly unapproachable? Even his mates has to think carefully before approaching him. Girl what are you saying, somebody is not approachable end of story" Tayo snorted.

"You can't sha deny that he's fine" Sade retorted.

Tayo shrugged "That's a fact" Tayo replied.

"Like, he's being on top of both most handsome guy list on his block and whole senior block" a guy said.

"They said this term, they'll add overall ranks, like in the whole school" a guy said.

"Which rank will you be?" Someone asked and the class roared with laughter.

"So you people not only chase your seniors out, you also gossip about your seniors" Promise said as he strode into the class.

Everyone wore surprised and shocked looks as Funmi hurried from her seat and allowed Promise to seat down.

This guy. When did he get here?

Fefe was right. Just because Promise was friendly didn't mean he wasn't dangerous. Who knew how long he had been standing there!?

I shook my head as I turned back to my books. I brought out my jotter and biro as I started humming '2002' by Annie Marie.

We were only eleven,

But acting like grown ups,

Drinking from plastic cups,

Singing love is forever and ever,

And I guess that was true.

I didn't realize I was already singing out while nodding my head to the beat. I had an extremely nice voice so I wasn't bothered that my classmates were going to laugh if they heard me.

Chioma kicked my chair as I turned swiftly to her. She looked around carefully.

"Do you want to die?" Chioma asked in hushed tones.

"Why?" I asked.

Chioma's reply was her pointing to where Promise was seated studying. He raised his head on queen and gave me a smile.

"Why did you stop singing? I like listening to you singing" Promise said as everyone looked in shock.

My eyes almost bulged out of their sockets as I swallowed my saliva.

Daniel, Promise and Phil; they weren't normal people. I was so sure. I stared into space before Promise spoke again.

"I'm serious. Continue singing" Promise said.

I glanced at my books and took a deep breadth. I decided to change songs. I folded my lips as I went through the songs in my head as I tried to choose a song.  I decided to settle for Ellie Goulding 'Burn'.

We, we don't have to worry 'bout nothin,

'Cause we got the fire,  and we're burning one hell of a something,

They, they gonna see us from outer space,

Light it up, like we're the stars of the human race.

The class was filled with a girl's smoothing and lovely voice. The voice drifted to the next class and most looked on in surprise.

I continued singing and reading at the same time. Singing was my forte. I knew how good my voice was and how I could switch between tones and voices.

Remembering how Promise had asked me to continue singing, I suddenly wished I had a boyfriend. If I had one or ever got one in the future, I'll sing for him everyday.
