Chapter Seven

Days passed, and the strange tension between Logan and me grew. We kept our distance at school, just as we promised. But it felt impossible to ignore him completely. Each time I saw him, even from afar, I couldn't forget what I knew.

He was a werewolf, and no matter how hard I tried to push it to the back of my mind, the truth kept creeping back in. It was like a shadow I could not escape.

One afternoon, I was sitting in the library, trying to focus on my homework. The school was quiet, and I thought I could finally get some peace. But then, I heard footsteps behind me. I looked up to see Logan standing there, his hands shoved into his pockets, his expression unreadable.

"Can we talk?" he asked quietly, looking around to make sure no one else was nearby.

I hesitated for a moment, then nodded.

"Sure. What's going on?"

Logan pulled out a chair and sat down across from me, his usual cocky demeanor gone. He looked serious, even a little nervous.

"I know we agreed to stay out of each other's way," he began, his voice low. "But I need to tell you something. It's important."

My heart skipped a beat. "What is it?" I asked, bracing myself.

Logan leaned forward, his eyes locking with mine. "You're not safe, Audrey. Not anymore."

My stomach tightened. "What do you mean?"

"There are others," he said quietly, his gaze intense. "Other werewolves. Not all of them are like me. Some are dangerous. And now that you know about me, they'll see you as a threat."

A chill ran down my spine. "A threat? Why?"

"Because knowing our secret makes you a target," Logan explained, his jaw tightening. “Us being Family again puts you at higher risk.”

I stared at him, trying to process what he was saying. "So, what am I supposed to do?"

Logan's expression softened a little. "I'll protect you," he said firmly. "I'm not going to let anything happen to you. But you need to be careful. Stay away from anyone you don't recognize. If anything feels off, you come to me."

I swallowed hard, trying to stay calm, but fear twisted in my chest. The thought of other werewolves-ones who might want to hurt me-was overwhelming. I didn't ask for any of this. I didn't want to be part of Logan's world, yet here I was, caught up in something I barely understood.

"Why would they come after me?" | asked, my voice shaky.

Logan's gaze didn't waver. "Because you're connected to me now. You know too much.

That alone makes you a liability to them.

There are rules in our world, Audrey, and one of them is to never let humans find out."

"But you let me find out," I said quietly, still processing.

"' didn't have a choice," he said, his voice softening. "You saw what I am. I couldn't hide it anymore."

I rubbed my temples, the weight of everything pressing down on me. "So, what now? I just... pretend like everything is normal? Like I'm not constantly in danger?"

Logan reached across the table, his hand brushing mine. His touch was warm, reassuring, but it only made my heart race faster. "I won't let them get close to you, Audrey. As long as I'm around, you'll be safe."

His words should have made me feel better, but instead, they only added to the pressure.

I wasn't sure if I could trust him, even though I wanted to. He was my stepbrother, but now he was something more-something dangerous, powerful, and unpredictable.

I pulled my hand away, trying to gather my thoughts. "I need time to process all of this, Logan. It's... a lot."

He nodded, understanding. "| get it. Just... promise me you'll be careful. And if anything feels wrong, you'll come to me. Don't try to handle this on your own."

I nodded slowly, though my mind was still racing. "I promise."

Logan stood up, giving me one last intense look. "Good. I'll keep an eye on things. Just... trust me, okay?"

As he walked away, I slumped back in my chair, feeling the weight of everything he'd just told me. My world had been turned upside down, and there was no going back.

The danger was real, and now, I had no choice but to rely on Logan.

But could I really trust him?
