Loyalty.
Simon POV.
I don't ask for much from my men, and I don't think I do, it's very simple what I'm asking from them, their loyalties, do as I say, do what you're ordered to do, stay on my good side and I won't kill you. A very easy equation, I worked with it for years now, I'm a mafia boss, I'm someone who worked with the cheaters, with the thieves, with the dealers, but they all know to obey me, it's my word or death.
I'm not dramatic, it's how our lives work, I've been part of the mafia since the day I was born, you don't walk into this life willingly unless when you're desperate or a son of a bitch. I was born into this, my mother was a drug addict, she gave birth to me in the middle of the mafia, and then she died from an overdose. That was the first betrayal ever, mothers aren't supposed to love drugs more than their own kids, she left me alone in a cold world, she didn't even bother to try and protect me, and she didn't bother to make a better life for us.
Instead, she gave her life up for drugs, she killed herself leaving me behind, I was raised by some random strippers, by some mafia members, I was forced to work for them, I sold drugs, I played in fight house, I did everything they expected from me to do to survive, I made sure to survive, I raised up in the ranks until I became the boss, and I knew for sure what I need for my survival, loyalty.
I'm a cold monster that's what I have been called in my life, I loved hard, I loved from all my heart, I married for love the first time, I fell for her Ashley, she was my everything, I adored her. But then she cheated on me, I found out about her cheating days after, and she knew I would never forgive her, she didn't even have the chance to beg for mercy, I killed her before she had the chance to beg for anything she died quickly, I owed her that much, may her soul rest in hell where it belongs.
Ashley was my only love, but I fell again, I fell for the innocent eyes, I was stupid again, I shouldn't have done that, my heart betrayed me, falling for the brown eyes. We're not the only people that live in this world, there are other creatures, and being a king of the night, I knew that vampires are real, that vampires exist, and they play nice, as long as you play nice with them.
We have an agreement, they don't hunt inside my clubs, they don't cause any trouble, and I offer them protection from the hunters, it's a whole cycle. Vampires eat humans, they drink their blood, and the humans, the one who knows about them formed an alliance, they tried to hunt them, stupid or maybe really smart. They are loyal to their own kind, I respect that but I'm a man who's doing business, I'm not one who's very concerned about the whole of humanity and the human race's future.
The ones who are like me, alliances of the creature of the dark, we protected them, we keep them safe, they do business with us, and we keep the hunters away, a full circle, no one is allowed to feed inside my clubs, I don't need that, I don't run a feeding club.
One night, I was called to the club by my best friend and right hand, Lucas, the one who works for me, has been working for me for years now, he had his own past, the one that drove him over to my place, but that's his story to tell and not mine.
Lucas was loyal to me, he saved my life the same way I saved his back in a day, he's my right hand, but not many people know that. I sent him over to one of the clubs after I found out that I'm being robbed by one of the men I trusted to take care of my clubs. Lucas went undercover as a bartender, he's there as my ears and eyes, it's not my only club, but might be one of my favourite ones so far, I didn't want to lose that club. He found out about the robbing part, how he smiled at the books, how he hired girls without putting them on the books, making much more money than he's writing.
Lucas said we had a vampire in the house, a young one, they are young until they grow up by feeding on blood, the one we had in our house, is one that was starving, hungry enough to attack and kill. I came over to the club to kill her, that was my plan, I don't allow vampires like her in my home, but her eyes, the brown ones, got me captivated, she's nothing special, I saw girls who are prettier than her, I saw ones that are my type, but I fell for her.
I wanted her, and so I offered to stay with me, but she refused to, she refused my offer more than once, which had me captivated, no one has ever stood up for me, and no one has denied my offer trying to survive on their own. She reminded me of myself back when I was younger when I was still building myself up, I refused other hands that were set out for me, I'm not a weak person, I wanted to stand up on my own.
And so I let the cupcake go, set them free, and if they are yours they will come right back, and I knew she would, even if I had to buy her off from her vampire coven, she's going to be mine, one way or another.
