"It is easier to be wise for others than to be wise for oneself."-LA ROCHEFOUCAULD
“Hello, Miss Hower?
-Yes it's me. A problem ? I worried.
- No, don't worry. I just wanted to know how soon will you arrive.
-A little over 4 hours.
-I'll wait for you at the bottom of the building, then. Good luck and take care.
-Thanks very much. See you later "
I hung up, relieved before my departure. My father put my last suitcase in my car and hugged me. My mother held back her tears, her arms crossed. My parents, along with my little sister Gemma, stood behind my boyfriend, who walked over to give me a final kiss.
“Be careful, darling. »
He kissed me lovingly and pulled back. I gave them a final wave before walking around the car and getting inside. In my rearview mirror, I saw my mother burst into tears and my father yelled at her. I laugh to myself with a twinge in my heart. I was going to miss them but I wasn't that far from them.
I honked and drove off. A few minutes later, I was already out of town. On the way for 4 long hours of driving, bringing me straight to my new life.
Alone, I took the opportunity to reflect on all that awaited me. I was going to join Mrs. Anderson, the owner of the building where I was going to stay. I had booked a fairly large apartment remotely. Of course, I couldn't afford to rent such a big apartment all to myself, it would be a waste and waste of money, which I can't afford. So, thanks to my parents' suggestion, I made a roommate proposal.
Mrs. Anderson had called me, letting me know that she had someone else sign half of the apartment. Well, “half” is a big word! I mean of course that the second bedroom of the apartment is therefore rented to another person and that I will be living with her, without knowing who it is, for the moment.
Girl or boy ? I don't even know this simple information!
Ms. Anderson avoided questions, as usual. She who is however very talkative, is not used to answering questions so much she goes far when a subject is launched.
Anyway, I would see who I would be dealing with. I'm quite sociable, that should be fine. As long as she's not a mess, she pays her part well, ... There shouldn't be any problems.
I don't know if she will be there when I arrive. Guess I'll see right now.
I'm eager to arrive. 4 hours on the road is a long time! I have to go and sign my registration for the school of tourism, do some shopping, without forgetting to unpack my suitcases, which are quite numerous. One for clothes, one for 'beauty' products, etc...
After 2 hours of driving, my phone rings and switches directly to Bluetooth mode on the car, which means that I can drive and talk on the phone with the person at the same time, without putting my life in danger or risking myself. take a ticket.
" -Sweetheart ?
-Mom ? I forgot something ?
-No no. I just wanted to know how it was going on the road. We are all in the living room waiting wisely for you to tell us that you have arrived...
-It's okay, don't worry. It's running pretty well so far. In less than two hours, I'll be there, I think.
-Great. Don't forget to send us a message, please.
-Promised.
-Come on, I leave you, be careful.
-Yes mom ! Kisses ! »
I wait for her to hang up on her own and smile. I can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!
I get out of the car and bend over to stretch my legs. I lean into the car to grab my bag and slam the door to reach the entrance to the building where Mrs. Anderson is waiting for me. She called me a few minutes ago to let me know where she was.
As I walk, I text River and my parents, then slip my phone into my pocket. I see a woman who seems to be waiting. Probably Mrs. Anderson.
I walk over to her and she smiles at me. I conclude that I was not mistaken!
"Miss. Hower?" Pleased, I'm Johanna Anderson, the owner of the building. »
I nod politely and she leads me into the building. The entrance is very large. It contains all the mailboxes of the inhabitants of the building. We arrive in front of an elevator where she presses the top button.
The doors open and we slip inside in silence. She presses the button for floor number 3 and we wait until the doors open. We go to the end of the hall and she turns her keys inside and the door opens in front of me.
" Go for it. »
I walk timidly into the apartment that I have only seen in photos. I trusted my instincts by refusing to go see it for myself. She shows me around despite the fact that I know roughly how it is formed and then sits at the living room table.
“I'm going to ask you to sign right here, please. »
I nod, grab his pen and sign my name where indicated. She slams her wallet and gets up.
“I hope you will like it here. Your school is 10 minutes from the apartment, you are the nearest building. »
" It's perfect. »
"I'll let you settle in. Your roommate should arrive in the evening or tomorrow, I don't know. The person has already signed the papers. »
" Very well. Thank you. »
She hands me my keys, that of the mailbox and of the apartment, then leaves. I am alone in this modern apartment and I am happy. I don't even worry about embarking on this new adventure alone, I'm impressed!
I go down to my car and take as many things as possible. I have to go back and forth several times but in the end, all my things arrived in the apartment. As I begin to tidy up in the first bedroom, which is mine, I receive a phone call.
" -So ? I want to know everything. How is your roommate, the apartment, the city, all that!
- Calm down, Gemma. If you want to know, I arrived half an hour ago, I just had time to pack my many suitcases!
-Oh, that sucks. Is your roommate here?
- No, she hasn't arrived yet. Mrs. Anderson said she might arrive tomorrow at the latest.
-I can't wait to know how she is. Will you tell me everything when she arrives?
- Yes, Gemma! I promised you, let's see. River is there?
- No, he went home. He waited for Mom to calm down and he came home. He barely speaks, it's so painful.
- Stop criticizing him, Gemma. He's very nice !
- But drunk.
- Gemma!
- Alright, I'm done. I'll let you put it away - knowing you, that's what you're already doing. See you later, sis!
-Hi. »
I smile as I put my phone back on the dresser and continue to put my things away in my closet. I put away my beauty products in the bathroom, trying to leave a minimum of space for my roommate, then I pour a glass of water before grabbing my bag and heading out.
Let's go to discover the city!
