Chapter III: Coincidences that Can Destroy You: - 2

"Nothing! Why do you think I've done something?" I said, trying to sound innocent.

"Your face gives you away. Your facial expressions reveal all the emotions going through your mind. Right now, Mrs. Miller, you have a smile and a wicked look, like a cat enjoying playing with mice," my husband said, kissing me on the neck. I couldn't take my eyes off my victims.

They couldn't take their eyes off each other either. "I see you're Mrs. Miller's best friend. If I had known that before, I definitely wouldn't have kissed you. You're a complication, beautiful," Jason said to my friend. I found the situation amusing and couldn't hold back my laughter.

"But who do you think you are? You went too far by groping and kissing a woman against her will. The only thing you regret is finding out she's a friend of a friend. No wonder I call you a pervert." You're the biggest pervert I've ever met, and I'm a handsome model. My world is full of them." My friend was bursting with rage. She didn't even notice that my children had wanted a hug from me since they saw her. But when they saw their uncles arguing, they were so amazed by their reactions that they just stared from one to the other as if it were a tennis match.

"As far as I know, sweetheart, you didn't resist that much when I kissed you. In fact, you enjoyed it. Although, it's understandable that you wouldn't know the difference after your first kiss. As for groping you, the only things my hands touched were your wrists to stop you from running away with the photos you took. Oh, and thanks for noticing the obvious, mermaid. I know I'm handsome; you're obviously very observant." Jason remained calm. You could say he was bored with the tantrum the redhead was throwing. Knowing my friend, that made her even more furious. The scream my children's godmother let out showed she could barely control her fury. I was surprised my upset friend hadn't knocked my husband's assistant down with a karate move, considering her self-defense training.

I was having a great time watching my usually restrained friend, who was cold with men, barely able to control herself in front of a man.

"I didn't know you had this sadistic streak. You like to see people suffer," Norman repeated in my ear. I knew he was having just as much fun as I was watching his assistant and friend sweat bullets because of a woman.

Norman had always told me that despite being the most loyal friend and assistant, Jordan was afraid of relationships because of his past. His parents were constantly fighting. He had grown up in that hell and was only happy when he went to college. He decided at a young age that he didn't believe in love or relationships. That didn't stop him from having thousands of lovers or one-night stands.

For my part, after learning about Kimberly's past, I knew she would never want to be like her mother. I knew she wanted to find love after finding her father. But she was afraid of getting hurt. Her mother left her with a legacy that was difficult to overcome, causing her to reject anyone who approached her. If she didn't let anyone get close, they couldn't hurt her.

That's why she never gave anyone a chance to enter her life—except for my children and me. The only reason she let me in was because we were neighbors in Los Angeles. One day, she took me to the emergency room after I fainted in the hallway of our building. As I fell, my body instinctively tried to grab onto something. I banged on Kim's apartment door with my arms before finally sliding, unconscious, to the floor.

Hearing the knocking, the model opened the door to find a woman who had fainted. She rode with me in the ambulance, and that's where I woke up and told the paramedics that I was three months pregnant. I still remember the look of fear on the redhead's face when she heard the news. From that day on, however, she began coming to my house every day with some excuse to see how I was doing. She always brought me something: milk, fruit, or other healthy foods for pregnant women. One day, she showed up with a stuffed animal, saying it was the baby's first toy. She accompanied me to all my checkups.

She was the first person, apart from me, to find out that I was pregnant with twins. Seeing those two angels on the ultrasound screen and hearing their heartbeats brought us even closer, turning our friendship into a familial relationship. It was as if we were sisters. Kim was my partner in prenatal classes. She changed her modeling schedule to have those days off. She still made me laugh when she received a call about a job that conflicted with one of the preparation classes. Her response was hilarious and imaginative.

"I can't. My girlfriend and I are pregnant, and we have childbirth preparation classes," she said very seriously, without batting an eye. Her response made me burst out laughing.

She accompanied me to the hospital the day I went into labor. If there had been no complications, she would have been by my side throughout the entire process.

When the twins were born, Kim took a vacation to help me during their first month of life. That's how Ailan and Roy adopted her as their aunt and I adopted her as my sister.

I was happy when my indignant friend blushed to the roots of her hair and was unable to hold my gaze when I asked her if she had enjoyed her first kiss. Her insistence that she hadn't enjoyed the kiss and that it had been more like an assault wasn't very credible. She shifted uneasily, confirming that Kimberly Peterson was more affected by what had happened than her pride would let on.

Assistant Blake, unintentionally and surely without meaning to, had opened doors in my friend that she thought were locked tight and guarded by security. The best part is that it only took him a few minutes.

On the other hand, I wasn't very clear about Jason's intentions. I would need Norman's help to decipher them. I wasn't going to leave my friend's heart in the hands of a wolf who would hurt and destroy her. I couldn't allow that. I wanted my friend to be as happy as I am. If there's a chance, I won't let it slip away.
