Chapter 14: Robin Washed and Rubbed Elise’s Feet

“Jim Jordan, do you think I should kill you?” Robin asked.

“Mr. Bailey, I’ll confess... I won’t hide anything... Earlier, Patrick wired four million dollars to me to watch you. I need to update him about your whereabouts, especially if you leave Stillwater.”

Jim gingerly fumbled for a bank card from his pocket and passed it to Robin. He added, “This... The money I accepted is all in this card, 6.96 million in total. I haven’t spent a penny yet. Mr. Bailey, please have mercy.”

However, Robin sneered, “It turns out my so-called father is afraid of me THAT much. He fears I’ll leave Stillwater and go to the capital for revenge, right?”

“Jim Jordan, use your phone to contact that old bastard to call him.”

“Yes, Mr. Bailey.”

Jim dialed the number without hesitation and passed his phone to Robin.

“Hello, Jim. What’s the matter?” Patrick’s voice sounded on the other end of the line.

“No matter. I just want to greet you, Patrick Bailey. Also, just a reminder. This is the first time. If it happens again, you can’t blame me for doing something brutal in the capital,” Robin chuckled.

However, his voice sent a chill down Patrick’s spine. His back was soaked in cold sweats. “I got it, Master Robin.”

Robin ended the call and tossed the phone back to Jim. Robin asked, “The opening ceremony of the Robin-Sophia Group will be held in three days. It means the company officially settles down in Stillwater, right?”

“Yes, Mr. Bailey. Three days later,” Jim answered immediately.

He had told Robin the Bailey family’s order to him, which meant he had taken Robin’s side. Besides, he could tell Robin still needed him to do something, making him sigh in relief.

“What about the first project?” Robin asked.

“Correct. We have land holding 165 acres in an excellent location. Currently, we’re looking for a local company in Stillwater to cooperate with to develop it together. I planned to choose one from the top 10 companies, but Lands Corporation appeared...”

Jim wanted to find one partner within the top 10 companies, but Robin told him that Elise, Robin’s wife, represented Lands Corporation.

“The first project must belong to Lands Corporation. No mistake shall be made. You must keep my identity confidential for the time being. Carry on your plan. At the opening ceremony, you’ll receive gifts from the attendees. Tell them the partner will be announced upon their gifts,” Robin made the decision and reminded Jim.

“By the way, Jeff. Follow me to attend the ceremony three days later.” He looked at Jeff.

“Really? What gift should I find then?”

Jeff was interested.

“I know what you like, brat.”

Robin hit Jeff’s chest, laughing with and teasing him like his sibling.

Later, Robin discussed some details with Jim before sending him away. Jeff asked, “General, why didn’t you fire him? He has accepted so much money.”

“If I fired him, I wouldn’t have another president of this company. Besides, he has been working for the Robin-Sophia Group for years, and many people must have been arranged by the Bailey family in important positions. Jim Jordan has confessed and ratted out Patrick Bailey, so he has betrayed the Bailey family. He has to take our side.”

“He can only rely on us now to survive. Like a drowning rat, he found a lifesaving straw and had to grasp it desperately. Hence, he could clear the internal obstacles within the Bailey family and kick away the spies arranged by them,” Robin explained.”

Jeff was enlightened. He was just an adjutant good at fighting. He won first prize in the martial arts competition in the military. However, he lacked specific intelligence, so he followed Robin all the time.

After Elise returned home, she went into her bedroom and lay on the couch. Since her house was a villa, her bedroom was huge with the necessary furniture and facilities.

Rubbing her forehead, she looked exhausted.

Robin was tutoring Leslie on her homework. Seeing Elise, he walked to her and asked, “What’s wrong?”

“I’m bugged by the Robin-Sophia Group’s project. Lands Corporation is too small and infamous. They had never heard of us. We must find a big company to cooperate with. I visited many big companies one after another, but none of them wanted to talk to me. I’m still worried about how to achieve cooperation with the Robin-Sophia Group. I have no clue now.”

Elise had been busy for a whole day but gained nothing. After leaving the Robin-Sophia Group, she was rejected by more than 10 companies she visited. Lands Corporation was way too small without a 20-million-dollar market value. Also, most people knew Elise wasn’t in the corridors of power at Lands Corporation.

Instead, she had been dumped by the Houry family and struggling for life.

The company owners longed for her beauty but never considered cooperating with her on the project. They didn’t think Elise could make the final decision on Lands Corporation’s behalf.

“What happened to t your feet?”

Robin noticed the reddened skin on her ankles.

“Oh. Nothing serious. I walked for a whole day. My feet were rubbed by my shoes too much.”

Elise also noticed her ankles. She wore high heels and wasn’t supposed to walk for such a long time. However, to gain cooperation and maintain her image, she had to visit more than 10 companies in high heels.

Elise aimed to gain the project too eagerly to pay attention to her ankles.

“Sit and wait.”

Robin turned away. Shortly after, he returned with a basin of warm water. “Soak your feet in the water. I’ll put the ointment on them later.”

“No, thanks. You are a man. How can you wash my...”

Before Elise finished her refusal, Robin held her feet and put them into the water. The temperature was just right, making her feel cozy.

Robin answered, “Be obedient, Elise. I’m your husband.”

“OK...”

Sitting on the couch, Elise stared at Robbin, who was washing and massaging her feet. His face had a sharp outline, and he entirely concentrated on rubbing her feet. The scene sent warmth to her chest, which she hadn’t felt in the past seven years.

Elise had been stressed for seven years without putting down her burdens, feeling too exhausted. However, she had a feeling that she could rely on Robin. After all, she was a woman.

She thought probably her decision to let him stay in her house was the beginning of a promising future.

Although Robin was commoner and poorer than other men she knew, she didn’t mind. She wouldn't expect more if he was decent with a good personality.
