Chapter 7
Caitlyn's Perspective
The awkward atmosphere remained even after Talon had left. Daddy's eyes remained glued to the direction where Talon disappeared.
"Do you know him?" I asked, finding my father blinked.
"You looked like you saw a ghost when you saw him here earlier," I added.
"Of course I looked like I've seen a ghost.” Dad spat after closing the door behind him, “Have you forgotten how he killed an important member of our pack?"
"If Alpha Shaco found out that Alpha Talon was in our house, what you think he'd do?"
"Enough getting entangled with him, Caitlyn. Getting close to Talon will get you nothing but trouble!" Daddy warned.
"But Daddy—" My forehead crumpled.
"Stop it, Caitlyn. As my daughter, you must follow my instructions. Don't even try to defend him infront of me."
"But he protected me from Jayce, Dad!"
"That! Have you ever thought why he showed up when you Jayce was pestering you?!"
"How am I supposed to know that?" I shrugged my shoulder.
Papa sighed in frustration. I did't get why he was making a fuss about this.
"Caitlyn, I'm telling you. Don’t let me catch you seeing Talon again, or you wouldn't like the consequences!" With that, my father marched upstairs in a huff.
I knew my father. His ill feeling towards Talon must fueled by something else, not just because Talon killed an important member of the pack.
The following day, Leona dragged me to a shopping mall downtown.
"This will look cute on you!" She giggled, handing a gorgeous dress to me.
"It’s perfect indeed." I took the hanger from her. "I like the color. I’ll get this one."
I was about to head to the counter when Leona pulled me back.
"Not so fast, missy. You think I didn't notice that your mind is wandering somewhere else?"
"I was with Talon last night." I told her honestly.
"Really? Do Tell! What else happened last night?" Leona got excited immediately. She was really a gossip queen.
"Talon knows about the baby." I said in a flat tone. "He said he’s happy about the baby."
"Meaning he'll take care of you and the baby?!" Leona's lips parted in amusement.
"Per his words, yes, but I don't know. We will never work. A human and an Alpha?" I scoffed. "He'll surely dump me after I give birth to his pup."
"Or maybe not," Leona said, sounding positive, "You have eight more months before you give birth to his pup, Caitlyn."
"And?"
Leona flicked my forehead.
"Meaning you have eight months to make the ruthless Alpha fall in love with you!"
"Yeah, of course! Why didn’t I think of that?" I said sarcastically.
"Oh gosh! What's with the long face again, Caitlyn."
"Daddy won't approve of Talon."
"Yeah, he won't. But if Uncle Pantheon found out about this…" Leona grinned, caressing my tummy, "He'd have to accept the fact."
“If only things are that easy.” I sighed heavily.
"What do you mean? Is there something else that made you think Uncle Pantheon will disapprove of you two?" Leona frowned at me.
"I'm not sure. But they met last night and it seems like that they've long known each other. Also, Talon somehow looked at my father with hostility. It’s really…"
"Wait! Isn't that Alpha Talon?"
"Hey! This joke isn’t funny…" Abruptly interrupted by Leona, I thought she was just kidding.
But my blood froze as my eyes followed her gaze and saw Talon in a restaurant.
He was with a charming woman, who was whispering something that made Talon chuckle.
"Who the hell is that?!" Leona gritted her teeth
"I don't know, maybe his girlfriend.” I shrugged, pretending to be cool with that.
“Girlfriend?! How can he date someone else when you’re having his baby! He has to give us an explanation.” With that, Leona turned to rush towards Talon, but got stopped by me.
“I'm tired, Leona. And I’m not interested in what’s going on between them. Let's just go home for now," I said and turned to leave.
"You sure you’re all right?" Leona looked at me with concern.
"Don’t worry. I'll just go and take a nap." I forced a smile at her.
On my way back home after parting from Leona, I passed by the packhouse and found it unusually busy.
“Do you think Talon got the nerve to show up at the reception tomorrow?” I overheard a shifter asking another one.
“No idea. But as long as he comes, he’ll never get off easily.”
My heart skipped a beat upon hearing their words. Clearly, Alpha Shaco was planning a banquet to trick Talon here and take revenge.
My steps quickened at the thought of this. I rushed towards home quickly.
Nibbling my nails as I paced in my room, I finally grabbed the calling card that Talon left me and decided to call him.
“The number you dialed is out of service. Please leave a message.” My blood froze upon hearing this.
"His phone was off. Did he turn it off so that he wouldn't be disturbed while he was with that charming woman?" I whispered to myself bitterly.
Sitting back on my bed numbly, I felt at a complete loss.
I wanted to give up calling him, but this reception launched by my pack was surely a trap.
I must tell him that his life would be in danger if he accepted Alpha Shaco’s invitation and showed up at the banquet. So I dialed his number once again.
Just like my first time calling him, Talon was still not answering my call.
"Please, Moon Goddess! Tell Talon to answer the phone. You cannot just stand by and allow your shifters killing each other."
As I pleaded helplessly, my hands stroke my tummy gently.
“I know things between Talon and I will never work. It’s true that I felt heartbroken when I found him with a shewolf. But that doesn’t mean I’ll just sit by and watch him get killed.”
Just as I was preoccupied with Talon, my father knocked on my door.
