Chapter 1

"Look, Oliver, I'm almost at the airport, just wait okay? I don't understand why your driver isn't picking you up, I have a job too you know." Hazel grimaced as she swerved past a Corolla, Oliver's call to come pick him up from the airport had disrupted her day. She had to cut short her meeting with some of her staff.

"Hey, I'm sorry, Sean is sick and he didn't think to tell me until I had already arrived in the city. I know I'm being a bother." He apologized and Hazel could picture him on the other end of the call with a pouty look on his face. She smiled at the thought.

"So you couldn't take a cab, I know you don't have any luggage on you, you could have called one or even called your girlfriend."

"No way, you know I hate cabs, the gross feeling that someone else has sat in that back seat, heaven knows what they did there. And as for Layla, I plan on surprising her, I told her I'll be coming back on Sunday." Hazel rolled her eyes at how happy and lovey-dovey her brother sounded, she wasn't jealous or unhappy, she just hated his girlfriend.

"Are you sure lying to your girlfriend is a good idea? Besides surprises are so overrated." Hazel slowed down at the zebra crossing to let the pedestrians cross.

"Haze, you are so bitter, you really need to get a man. You sound like a cranky old lady." He laughed and Hazel scowled.

"Shut u— WHAT THE FUCK?" The impact of the slamming on her car rushed the words out of her mouth, what the actual fuck was going on, she quickly pulled up and parked the car on the side of the road.

"Haze, what's wrong?" Oliver's concerned voice rang out. Hazel opened the door, grabbed her cup of coffee, and came out.

"I think someone just hit my car, let me call you back. I need to deal with this." She ended the car, the impact of the hit on her car wasn't too bad, a busted taillight and a small dent, but she could deal with that. The Maserati that hit her had parked as well. The owner of the car came out and charged at her. She took an unconscious step back and quickly ran her eyes through him, damn, he was hot.

"What the hell are you driving? What did you slow down?" He fumed. Hazel was shocked, she didn't understand what was going on.

"Excuse me, I slowed down so people could cross, I don't remember that being a crime and why were you driving so fast, this is not the highway?"He had pissed her off and she couldn't hold herself back.

"The light was still green, why would you stop when the light was still green? Who the hell gave you your driver's license and deemed you fit to drive?" He growled and glared at her through his piercing green eyes, Hazel returned the glare.

"There was an old lady and her cute grandson, excuse me if I'm not heartless like you, but I had to stop and let them cross." She placed her hands on her hips and tilted her face upwards.

"Well, some of us have places to be at, like work, and can't stop to let sweet grandmas and cute grandsons cross the road. We can't all be spoilt princesses." He spat at her. Hazel recoiled, she took a good look at him, Green eyes was dressed to the nines in his black power suit, his brown hair brushed back in a professional look, she wondered who his barber was, his full lips pulled into a thin line. With his cold and threatening demeanor, he was the very embodiment of a businessman, she could see Wall Street vibes all over him and it angered her, she was done with his kind, they always saw women as nothing but trophies.

"You insolent pig, how dare you? You don't even know who I am and you are already making assumptions. Maybe if you showed more kindness, you wouldn't look like the Grim Reaper." She hissed at him, he looked shocked and she almost smiled.

"Who the hell are you to talk to me that way? Do you know who I am?" His forehead creased in frustration and his face was red with anger. Riding on the high of her words, she tossed the remaining scorchingly hot coffee at Green eyes and he gasped in shock.

"I don't know and I obviously don't fucking care." She gave him the middle finger before returning to her car.

"Hey, come back here, you don't know who you messed with!" He yelled after her but she didn't respond, she just entered the car and drove away with a satisfied smile on her face.

It felt good to deal with assholes, what a great way to start her day, the only downside was that he was hot and she felt a little twinge in her chest that she won't be seeing him anymore.

" Good morning Mr. McKinley, your meeting with Mr. Ashton starts in— oh my God, what happened to you?" Paige, Zachary's trusted and reliable assistant of 3 years, rushed to his side with a horrified look on her face. He waved her off and walked into his office with her following his tail.

"It's nothing, I just had a little run-in with an unhinged person. A typical Wednesday in New York City." He groaned as he pulled off the suit jacket, his blue shirt had a glaring brown stain on it from the coffee and he had to resist the urge to throw something at the wall. Paige gasped and hurried to his side.

"Typical, nothing about this is typical. You have a meeting in less than an hour, I won't be able to get you a new shirt by then." Paige had gone into panic mode, on another day he would have been amused by her behavior but not today, he was seething with anger at the 5ft 4 blonde spitfire that had ruined his day.

"Don't panic, I always have spare clothes in my office." He walked to the corner of his office and pulled a book on his bookshelf which opened up revealing a closet, he grabbed a gray shirt and a black tie and then closed the closet. He spun around to see a gobsmacked look on Paige's face and he couldn't stop himself from smirking.

"I'm always prepared." He said and she nodded unconsciously. Paige excused herself to let him change and came back in when he rang for her. Paige was talking but he could barely hear a word she was saying, he kept flashing back to the memory of the blonde, her luscious lips, her big brown eyes that shot daggers at him, and the way her voluptuous body fit in the tight little jumpsuit, he wondered how she would feel against him if he had grabbed her by the waist He adjusted himself in his chair and shook away the wandering thoughts in his head, he needed to focus on his work and not on some spoilt brat that he was never going to meet again.
