The Accident

When she woke up the next morning, she felt lively. The fun she had was something she will love to keep to her memory, but because of her drunk nature, she couldn't remember everything clearly.

All she remembered was how they rolled in the hay and luscious kisses he gave to her after.

She woke up with regrets, but after series of thinking. She concluded that Robert wasn't worth her and she tried feeling good and pretended everything was okay.

"But who is the man? Handsome and courageous! That's nice!" She thought to herself as she got into the bathroom and got herself dressed. All the while she was getting ready to leave, the thought of the handsome hero kept resurfacing. She had to think about his touch always, as that was the only way she could stop thinking about her pains.

"Hello Mrs. Douglas," the watchman stopped her with a call, on her way out. He didn't wait for Donna to answer before he gave out the cheque.

"Your husband said I should give you this."

First she called me Mrs. Douglas and now my husband? She was confused at this point, but didn't want to show the watchman that she was confused. She remembered everything that happened that night, how the man stood up for her and got them a cabin. She remembered the name, but she was having problem remembering the face of the handsome hero.

"Thank you!" She took the cheque from him without asking any questions. Donna opened the cheque when she got to her car.

"What??!!! Ten million dollars, what for??" She almost screamed, not because of the huge amount, but because of what she thought it was for.

"For sleeping with me? Really? She thinks I'm a prostitute or what? Damn it!" It was at this point she started regretting why she came to Gabs in the first the first place.

She wanted to return it, but there was no phone number nor an address attached to it, so she decided to ignore it and continued driving. At last, she finally forgot about Robert and Alice since there was something else to pounder about.

It wasn't even up to five minutes drive when her phone lit up. It was a call from her stepsister; Janet, she ignored the call.

All she could think of was what her family might say about what happened. They might think it was all her fault and no man will want marry a woman without a womb, maybe that's why he called off the weeding.

She summoned courage and picked up the call the fourth time she called.

"Donna... Can you hear me??!" Her voice was laden with disturbance. It was like someone died or something.

"Yes, I can hear you. What's the problem?" Donna pretended like nothing was actually going on.

"Your.... Yo...your company..." she couldn't finish what she was saying as muffled cry filled Donna's hear. The only thing Donna heard was her company.

"Hey... Janet? Talk to me!! What happened to my company! What's going on exactly?" Donna was having mixed feelings already, but just wasn't having any negativity about her company.

"Traces of hard drugs were found and tested in your company." Janet sniffed with soft cry following.

Donna owned a pharmaceutical company, that helps hospitals with medical tools and any form of legal drugs, and never in history had Donna been involved in any illicit drug business.

"Hard drugs??? Found in my company? I don't understand what you're talking about. I'm driving, I will call you back once I get there." She said as she hit on the accelerator but didn't hang up the call.

"Your company was shut down Donna. The government requested you for questioning." Janet added while crying loudly.

When Donna heard this, her soul left her body. Suicidal thoughts started coming in. First it was Robert and Alice, now, it's her company.

What's exactly is happening, why is am I so unlucky?

She forgot that she was even on a high speed that she almost hit a car parked beside the road.

She suddenly pushed on the brakes so hard, and all she heard were the tyres screeching, attempting to get a handle onto the tricky street to stop the car. The prompt motion as expected resulted into an unfortunate accident.

It was like she was dead even before the accident happened, because there were no effort from her to prevent the accident, she was looking so helpless and like a dead human walking.

When she shocked into consciousness, she saw that blood was flowing into her head and it was like it was about to burst. She managed to scrambled herself from the squeezed car, the car was on its side, so it was easy for her.

She lay down there as her eyes started closing reflexively. The clouding sky was peaceful and fragile, and she found it magnificent to watch the last glance of mauve and red sink underneath the horizon past the sensitive moving heavens.

It was the light of a vehicle coming towards her that jolted her from her half sleep. The vehicle horn, the driver shouting and reviling kept her wake for sometime.

Her eyes closed calmly as a wild grin extended all over her face like someone smiling and dying.

She was hearing muffled sounds of people screaming like they were yelling from the bottom of a pool of water. Everything was fading off slowly and the only thought that was rumbling in her head was how her handsome hero was touching and kissing her.

She finally fell into a deep sleep when the pictures of the act with her handsome hero faded off, but she could feel a light and foggy material underneath her head. It was the rescue team.

They came on time and rushed her to the hospital with their ambulance. They tried to revive her on their way but....
