Chapter 8
I couldn't stop thinking about the flowers my mother received.
The black cat.
What kind of man would she call 'the black cat'? And she obviously knew him. But if she does, who is he?
And should I be worried? I didn't know what he wanted. And why being so sneaky.
If he had good intentions, he wouldn't need to hide himself from the cameras or sneak around.
"Victoria!"
I jumped slightly before looking at Jason.
"What is wrong with you? Are you even listening to what I'm saying?" He said slightly annoyed.
I let out a breath. "I'm sorry. I wasn't. Can you repeat please?"
"I'm not going to when you're obviously somewhere else." He said. "Is there something wrong?"
"No. Just please repeat. I'll listen this time."
"No. Tell me."
I huffed. "Jason drop it."
"Tell me." He repeated and I leaned back with a sigh.
He's not going to drop it.
"It's nothing important."
"You need to trust me." He said with a serious look.
"I do trust you."
"No you don't. It's not just you and your mom anymore. You know that right?" He asked standing up.
"I know."
He sat on the desk in front of me.
"Then talk to me."
"There is nothing to talk about." I responded and he gave me an annoyed look. "Why would you want something to be wrong?"
"Then why weren't you listening?"
I laughed lightly. "I was just thinking about something."
"What?"
"Jason, are you going to repeat what you were saying?"
He didn't answer and just kept his annoyed look on me. "Tell me."
"Someone went to see my mom at the hospital and gave her flowers. And apparently she knows him." I explained knowing that he won't let it go.
"Who? Do you have a name?"
"She said 'the black cat'". I sighed.
"Your mom really loves code names." He said. "What about the cameras?"
"They couldn't see his face."
"Do you want me to look into it?" He asked and I shook my head.
"Don't worry about it. I'll handle it." I smiled lightly.
I don't need him to be more into my life than he already is. If I let him get involved into this, it will just create another connection and I really don't need to love him more than I already do.
I'm just trying my best to protect my heart. I don't need him break it without knowing it, because he doesn't know my feelings for him.
"Let me help you."
I shook my head again. "Really, Jason, it's fine. You don't need to worry about that."
I stood up and went back to his chair. "You don't tell me what to do. I'll look into it." He sat down. "Now are you going to listen to me?"
I let out an annoyed sigh. "I can handle it on my own. I can take care of my business myself."
"I know. I want to help you."
"No. If you want to help me, let me handle it on my own."
He didn't say anything and just looked at me before speaking. "Are you going to listen to what I was saying now?"
I looked at him annoyed. "Yes." I answered under my breath.
"Good."
gOoD.
He started speaking again this time I made sure to listen before he explodes on me.
Once he was done, I made sure I had everything down.I moved my eyes to my laptop when I received a message.
I furrowed my eyebrows and stood up.
"What's wrong?" Jason asked as I walked to the door without saying anything.
"Someone is trying to hack the password of the computer in my office."
I left his office without another work.
This one time I am not locking my office door and this happens.
And who will have the time to go in my office? Everybody is busy with their own stuff.
Only Lydia, my secretary, and I know the password to that computer so I wouldn't have received a message if it was her. And she always uses it when she needs informations.
Or maybe she got it wrong while typing.
When I got to my office, I almost let out a sigh when I saw that she wasn't on her desk. But my relief went away when I found my office empty.
Oh great.
I went to my desk and saw that the computer screen was on. It should off after a couple of minutes of not using it. And I've been in Jason office for longer than that.
"They didn't get it, did they?" Jason asked as he appeared in the office.
"No." I sighed. "See? That's why you need to put the cameras back on the last floors. We would know who it is."
There was cameras everyone everywhere. But Jason decided to take them way for the last five floors of the building, because he said he doesn't like it since people on there floors are trustworthy and he left the cameras in the elevator.
"Where's your secretary?"
"She-"
"Ms. Mendes, went to grab some food. I thought your meeting would last longer." The young woman said from the door.
She suddenly tensed at the sight of the man in the room. "Good morning sir."
"Morning." Jason mumbled back.
"Is there something wrong, ma'am?" She asked looking at my expression.
"Someone tried to hack the password."
She frowned. "I just went out for a couple of minutes. And you usually lock your door, so I thought that you did. Or I wouldn't have left. I'm sorry. I..."
I couldn't help but smile at the panicked look on her face.
"It's alright. They didn't know it anyways." I said and she nodded slightly. "You can go now."
She nodded and left the office.
"The person must be stupid if they think they can just try to hack a password in this building." Jason said looking at me.
"That's what I was thinking." I sighed.
"But you can't leave your office open. I hope this is the last time it happens."
Well then. He's using his 'boss tone' on me. The last time he did it on the first few months of my training.
"It won't happen again. This is the last time."
"It better be." Jason replied walking toward the door. "You should be more careful, Victoria."

** Third POV **
"Kevin has been released." Hunter said taking a seat.
Both of his sons' heads snapped up as the words left his mouth.
"When?" Sebastian first asked.
"Three days ago, apparently. But I couldn't find him." He said looking at the both of them.
Jason let out an annoyed sigh. "Dad. He was supposed to be released in five years. What happened?"
"Early release for good behaviour. It's not like he can do something anyways. The man is too old for that now."
Sebastian dropped on a chair groaning. "So what now? You think he's just going to come and visit with cookies?"
Hunter chuckled. "The man is nuts. Anyways, Jason, if you kicked his ass when you were a child. Imagine what you can do now."
"Kick ass? I'll cut him in pieces if he comes close."
"Does mom know?" Sebastian then asked.
"Not yet. You know how she is. She's gonna start panicking and seeing danger everywhere. But I'll tell her soon."
"She's gonna be angry if she's the last to know."
"Oh I know. Now let's forget about him and talk business. What did you decide for Cornell entreprises?"
Jason looked at him weirdly.
"Hey. I'm not dead yet and I'm healthy. Don't try to get rid of me."
Jason smiled lightly. "I know dad, but-"
"I can still kick your ass and take the positon." He said with a smile leaning back. "So speak."
