Chapter 6
"Victoria." I heard just as I stepped out of the elevator at the hospital. "Good to see you."
"Hello doctor." I smiled as I saw him just leaving my mom's room. "How is she?"
"Good." He smiled closing his folder. "Pretty good actually since the incident." He said the last part slowly. "I'm sorry about that again."
"It's okay. It's not like it was anyone's fault." I smiled. "I'll go see her now." I said walking around him.
"Wait." He called and I faced him again. "Someone came to visit her this morning."
"Someone? Who?" I asked confused.
"A man. She didn't give a name, just said 'he'. But he brought her flowers. But there was no note."
"A man? Did anyone see him?" I asked.
"No, which is confusing because you are the only one on the list. But I told the security about it. It won't happen again."
"Cameras?"
"He was wearing a hoody, Victoria. We're sorry."
I let out a shaky breath. "But she's okay, right?"
"Yes she is. Don't worry."
I nodded and just opened her door. I walked in and my eyes directly went to the flowers on her nightstand.
"The demon's child came to see me." My mom's voice snapped me out of my trance. "I have two visits today."
"These are beautiful flowers." I smiled walking toward her to her usual spot close to the window. "Who gave them to you?"
"You don't know?" She asked in whisper. "He gave them to me."
"Who?" I asked again sitting on her bed facing her.
"Him." She said looking at me. "You don't know him?"
"No not really." I said softly. "What's his name?"
"Name? It's him."
I let out a breath. I wish he could just tell me a name. My mom doesn't know anyone. It has always been just the two of us.
She doesn't know anyone. So would come visit her with flowers.
"The black cat gave them to me."
Huh?

"It's official, Mr. Knight." The lawyer said with a big smile placing a paper in front of his client. "Tomorrow, you will be a free man."
"Good. Did you contact my brother?"
"Yes. He will be here tomorrow."
Kevin nodded.
"But are you sure you don't want me to let the Knight family know?"
He stood up glaring at his lawyer. "No. Don't ask again." He snapped walking away.
A couple of more hours and I'll be out.

"Let the accountants know that the meeting will be held tomorrow at two."
Cindy nodded taking notes.
"You are coming with me at the conference next week. You will take notes. Every details." Jason continued not once looking at her.
She nodded.
"Get back to work."
She just sat there not moving.
"Did I do something wrong, sir?" She asked.
"No. You just need to get to work."
"Then how come you don't look at me when you talk?" She dated to ask.
"Ms. Kyle. Do you need me to look at you for you to hear what I'm saying?" He asked back.
"No b-"
He cut her off. "Then get back to work."
"I just wanted to ask you something." She continued. "M... Maybe you'll appreciate my work better if you get to know me."
"So what?" He asked curious.
"Maybe we can have lunch together to get to know each other since we'll be working together."
"Like a date?"
"Yes. Why not?"
He cleared his throat before turning his chair to face her. He looked directly into her eyes not showing any emotions.
She gulped instantly regretting asking him to look at her.
"You've started working here not long ago and you're already trying to date your boss? Does that mean that you are not here just to do your job?"
"N... No sir. I just-"
He stopped her again. "You come here. You do your job and you leave. That's all I need from you." He said coldly. "Is that clear?"
"Yes sir."
"Get out of my office."
She quickly stood up and walked toward the door. She went back to her desk and sat down taking a deep breath.

"I want her gone." Was the first Victoria heard when she walked into Jason's office after visiting her mom.
"Wow. Hello to you too. I'm good. Thank you for asking. How was your morning Jason?" She asked sarcastically walking to his desk with a cup of coffee."Here." She smiled handing it to him. "Why are in such a bad mood?"
"That assistant. I don't like her. I don't trust her." He snapped.
"What did she do to you?"
"Ask me out."
So she did it. The woman is brave. Gotta give her that. She thought.
"What did you say?"
"No."
She looked at him weirdly. "You just said 'No'? Jason I know you. You just didn't say 'no'."
"Well what I said meant 'no'."
She laughed lightly. "Okay."
"I want her gone." He repeated and I held back my laugh.
"No." She shook her heard. "You put her back in her place. It should be over now."
"Excuse me?" He raised his eyebrows at her. "Who's the boss here?"
"You." She smiled standing. "But I am your most trusted advisor and I say she's staying for now. If she does something wrong again. I'll let you fire her."
He groaned and started mumbling something.
"I'm the one always looking for assistant for you. And it's hard. So she's staying for now, Mr. Grumpy." She said walking toward the door.
She almost laughed knowing that he was about to explode, but she won't agree with him this time. It's hard to look for assistant.
Victoria almost jumped when she was about to bump into Cindy.
"How come you always come see him without appointments?" Cindy asked looking up at her.
"Excuse me?"
"You said you two weren't together, I just think it's weird."
Victoria sighed. "You are not paid for that. He told me what you said and was ready to fire you. I am not your friend, and you don't question my relationship with anyone."
"You-"
"I'm not done talking. If you want to loose your job, keep doing what you're doing. Your CV is impressive. But you are replaceable. You're supposed to assist and make his job easier, not stress him about irrelevant things. So one more bad step and you are fired."
You are replaceable too, Cindy thought.
Cindy just looked up at her not answering.
"Did I make myself clear?"
"Yes, ma'am."
"Good." Victoria nodded before walking around her and toward the elevator.
"Bitch." Cindy muttered looking at Victoria's retreating back. "You just wait."
