Chapter 4: Visit to the seer
Alpha Ricardo's POV
I believed, by the tone of my voice, that Dad understood how serious I was and decided to let me be. The moment he left, I inhaled deeply and stood on my feet. With heavy feet, I walked up to my window and stood beside it. I peeped down to the garden and saw everyone giggling happily, enjoying my transformation party, but little did they know that the celebrant was going through hell.
''Be optimistic.'' My wolf encouraged me, but I responded with a bitter scoff. ''How can you say that? Do you know what it means, my sis… I gulped and continued, my half sister is my fucking mate?” I yelled out and rubbed my hair with my hands. ''Goddammit!'' I grunted out and collapsed on the bed. ''You have to tell your father…'' I did not let my wolf finish before cutting him off. ''No, I won't accept this bond, and I won't tell dad. ''I groaned and stood to my feet. ''I can't mate with my sister; it's disgusting.'' I groaned and aimlessly walked around the room as I worried about what to do.
After hours of pounding with thoughts, I decided to keep it a secret from everyone while my wolf kicked against it, but I ignored him.
''Rick?'' Jayson, my best friend, called through mind Link.
''Jayson?'' I was perplexed because it was the first time, I had heard his voice through a mind link. ''You could recognize me, man!'' he spoke happily. ''Of course.'' I responded with a chuckle, trying to hide my uneasiness, but unfortunately, he noticed it.
''Is everything okay, man?'' he asked, ''Yeah, yeah.'' I responded quickly, ''I'm just stressed out.'' I lied. ''Oh, it's normal. I was also stressed out myself.'' He responded with a chuckle and continued. ''Remember the seer we planned to pay a visit?'' ''Yeah.'' I responded. ''Do you still want to go.'' he asked, unsure. ''Yes, yes, are you scared.'' I asked. ''Not really, Just that I heard she is really mysterious.'' he responded with a grumble. '' I have to go see her, Jayson. Everyone thinks my mother's death is ordinary, but deep down in me, I knew someone was behind it, and she was the only one who would tell me my mother's killer.'' I said, ''But…'' Jayson tried speaking, but I cut him off. '' It's okay if you don't want to come.'' I assured him, even though I knew he wouldn't let me go alone. ''That's impossible, bro; you know I won't let our future Alpha go alone.'' He teased while we both chuckled about it.
“Alright, bro, get some rest, and I'll see you tomorrow.” “Alright, bro, goodnight.” I disconnected from the mind link and collapsed on the bed. I tiredly closed my eyes, only to see those sets of Innocent sea-blue eyes staring at me. ''Shit!'' I groaned and quickly opened my eyes. Tonight, was going to be a really long night.
The next morning, I was awoken by the sound of my loud alarm. Groaning drowsily, I went for the alarm and switched it off. Slowly, I opened my eyes and blinked repeatedly at the reflection of the sunlight coming from my window. Inhaling deeply, I left the bed and stood before my mirror.
My black hair was messy and stood a bit above my eyes. My green eyes looked dull, and I lacked sleep. ''Good morning, Rick.'' My wolf greeted me, which brought a big smile to my face. ''Good morning…'' I paused and thought for a second. ''What should I call you?'' I asked. ''It's your choice to make.'' he responded. ''Yeah, but I need to think about that.'' I said, and I left the mirror.
I walked to my closet, took out a towel, and went straight to the bathroom. When I got to the bathroom, I took off my clothes and stood in the cold shower while the events of yesterday played in my head. I hurriedly took my bath and stepped out of the shower.
I went back to my room and took out a pair of fitted blue jeans and a white hoodie. I changed into my clothes. Gelled my hair backward before going for a pair of black boots.
After dressing up, I picked up my phone and car key before taking the stairs down to the living room. ''Good morning, Sir.'' A servant greeted, ''Ricardo for now, please, and good morning to you.'' I responded with a friendly smile and made my way to the dining table.
The moment I got to the dining table; my happy countenance changed. Seated on the dining table was father, his mistress and… ''Good morning son.'' Father was the first to greet. ''Morning dad.'' I grumbled in response and took a seat at Dad's left hand. With burning rage in me, I stared at dad's mistress, who was seated at his right-hand side, in a seat that was supposed to be for mother.
''Good morning, Ricardo.'' She greeted me when she held my gaze, but I totally ignored her and met gaze with those two sets of fascinating sea-blue eyes. ''Mine!'' My wolf howled loudly in my head. Quickly, I averted my gaze away from her and placed an empty plate in front of me. ''Isn't it good that we are all here, eating together as one big family.'' Dad's mistress spoke with a giggle, which killed my appetite.
''I have to go, dad.'' I pushed the empty plate in front of me and stood on my feet. ''At least have something.'' Dad pleaded, but I ignored him, picked up my phone, and left the dining table. ''One big family?'' I groaned in anger and stormed out of the living room.
''Where are you, Jayson.'' I asked while getting into my car. ''I'm home, waiting for you.'' He responded. ''Alright, I'm on my way.'' I responded and ended the mind link.
''Stay calm.'' My wolf offered advice when he noticed I was finding it hard to control my fury. Sighing heavily, I inhaled deeply and focused my attention on the road.
After a few minutes' drive, I stopped in front of Jayson's father's house, who was the beta of our pack. Just as I was about to turn off the engine, I saw Jayson come out of his house and wave at me, indicating I shouldn't get out of the car. I listened to him and remained in the car until he got in. ''Why don't you want me in?'' I asked curiously. ''Jane's friends are having breakfast at the dining table; I don't want them bombarding you with questions.'' he said, and put on his seat belt. ''Thanks!'' I said and drove off.
A few minutes into the drive, Jayson spoke up, ''What would you do if you found out the killer of your mother?'' Jayson asked with curious eyes. ''I still haven't thought of a suitable punishment for my mom's killer.'' I responded quickly, without a second thought. ''Deep down, I wish you were just mistaken. I mean, our Luna was lovely, caring, and helpful to everyone. Why would anyone want to kill her?” Jayson grumbled in disbelief, while I didn't say a thing. Deep down in me, I knew my mother's death was not an ordinary one. How could she get sick and then give up in a day? I know that the physician claimed that she had pneumonic plague in her brain, but I knew there was more to it. Mother was healthy; she never showed any symptoms of being sick, and just one day she fell ill she died the next day.
''Are you okay?'' Jayson's words took me out of my thoughts. ''Yeah, yeah.'' I responded and sniffled deeply to hold back the tears that were threatening to fall down my cheek. ''Let's play some music.'” Jayson said, and went for the CD player.
He put on our favorite song, “Mockingbird,” and nodded his head to it while I increased the speed of the car.
After a two-hour drive, we arrived at our location, which was the house of an old seer. ''Are you certain this is the place?'' Jayson asked, while scanning around. I went for my phone, checked the map, and confirmed that we were at the right location. ''Yes, let's get down.'' I said, and took off my seatbelt. We both got out of the car and looked around. A small apartment stood before us; it was surrounded by unkept bushes. ''This house looks abandoned.'' Jayson murmured, but I ignored him and took a step forward. ''We should go back,” he advised, while I shook my head and made my way to the door, stepping on the bushes on the way.
We got to the door, and just as I was about to knock on it, the door opened, and a lady who should be in her late fifties stood before us with a blank expression on her face. ''Welcome Ricardo and Jayson to my humble abode.'' Jayson and I were taken aback by her words.
