Chapter 5
Diana
“Carter?” I exclaimed with utmost shock and surprise. I looked from his face to Diego's, who was merely smiling and enjoying the show.
“Why are you here?” I asked and he eyed Diego nervously. He brought him here? I thought.
“I should ask the same, why are you in his house, is this some sort of revenge for what I did to you? Look, it was a moment of weakness. I swear to god, I'm really sorry for what happened. It was Vivian's idea. I loved and still love you Diana,” he said, rubbing his palms together appeasing me.
I listened as he rambled on and on. I knew he was surprised, but most of all he was afraid of Diego. Who in their right senses wouldn't be anyways!
“Why did you bring him here?” I faced Diego who merely shrugged his shoulders saying nothing. He walked into the middle of the room and sat by the table. I followed suit and sat down too. Without looking at me, he began eating his meal.
The entire room was silent except for the sound of our spoons and knives on the plate. I played around with the steak on my plate. My stomach was rumbling due to my anxiety and I knew none of the food would sit down in my stomach if I tried to eat it. I was nervous and thinking of why Diego would bring in my ex. Was this why he asked if I had a boyfriend in the afternoon?
“Diego, tell me why you brought him here!” I said facing him when I could no longer remain calm with the situation. He simply took his napkin and cleaned his mouth without looking at me. He dropped his cutlery and beckoned to the butler who was with us the whole time.
He came around and began packing up with the plates. He finished doing this and left us alone.
“Armando?” He called out and a man emerged from one of the doors. If I hadn't taken a closer look, I would have mistaken him for Diego because they looked exactly the same, except that he looked younger than Diego.
“I know what you are thinking, and yes you are right. He's my younger brother,”he said to me .Diego stretched out his hands and Armando gave him a brown envelope and left the room.
I watched as he opened the envelope and brought it out.
It was a gun.
I screamed when he took it and dropped it on the table in front of me.
“What the hell is this for?" I stuttered looking at the object strangely. I've never seen a gun up close like that. The closest I have seen is in televisions.
“Kill him,”he commanded quietly.
“Excuse me? Is this some kind of a joke?” I said in shock. I looked at Carter who obviously as turned pale from the shock . Why would he want me to kill carter for goodness sake? Oh! Was it because I told him that he cheated on me? What kind of trouble did I get myself into?
“I can't do that, It's you who is a killer, not me,”I said firmly. Diego simply smiled and stood up. He walked around me like a predator walking around its prey.
He then pulled me up with force, with my chair scraping the floor. He held my waist from behind and whispered in my ears “You don't want to disobey me princess, I don't and I won't allow it.” I shivered with fear. His voice was calm but I knew he wasn't joking with me in any way.
I picked up the gun with shaky hands. By now,Carter was already shaking like a leaf by the riverside. As I took the gun in my hands and pointed it towards him. He stood up and bolted for the door. He ran out and Diego laughed out loud without saying anything nor moving to stop him.
How dare he laugh in such a situation? He just joked with someone else's life and he dares to laugh? I thought.
From afar, I heard Carter's voice pleading. He didn't get to run away? What the hell is wrong with this house? I thought.
The door opened and I saw two hefty looking men bring Carter in. They threw him down with such force that he winced in pain.
“Ouch! That must hurt,he said.” “No one leaves this house unless it is with my approval. You think you can escape here? Then, you mustn't have heard about me,”he boasted.
“Where were we?” He asked, facing me. He picked up the gun once again and gave it to me. I shook my head vigorously, refusing to collect it from him.
He came behind me and he held my hand with his and placed my hand on the trigger. He straightened my hand and pointed it towards Carter again.
“Don't panic,” he said to my ears. Don't panic? I thought. I am on the verge of pulling the trigger in someone else's head! How dare he tell me not to panic.
“Please, Lord Diego. I promise to be on my best behavior. Please don't kill me.” Carter said, walking towards us on his knees. Then he pulled the trigger with his fingers on mine.
Baaam! The gun boomed and everything went silent.
I closed my eyes in horror. I just killed a man, I thought, tears rolling down my eyes. Instead, I heard whimperings and I opened my eyes.
Oh heavens! The gun must have missed him because he was still alive but in shock. I opened my eyes and ran towards him. I helped him stand on his feet. I noticed that his trousers were wet, he must have urinated on his body from the fear and shock of what had just happened.
“Diego? What are you playing at? Was it because of what I said he did? “Please forgive him. He has promised to never do what he did again,” I said pleading on Carter's behalf.
“You know, " he began, walking towards the two of us. “I should have invited her over too,” he said. “I would have loved to see both of you. You dare hurt my prize?” he asked.
“How many times do I have to tell you? I'm not your prize and I would never be!” I said, walking up to him. He simply smiled devilishly.
“But you are, my princess, I own you,” he reaffirmed.” “And no one has the right to touch or hurt a strand of your hair except me, " he finished pointing his finger to his chest.
I opened my mouth to refute his words but the gun sounded again. And this time, it didn't miss Carter.
I watched his body hit the floor with a bang, his eyes wide open. I moved back in fear as I looked up from his lifeless body to Diego's face.
Just how safe am I in this house?
