Chapter 11 So Handsome

Could it really be that simple?

Lance was gravely ill, and just a few needles, followed by a ten-minute wait, would cure him?

Despite Deanna's confident tone, Xavier and Ava were skeptical, but they had no choice but to wait anxiously.

Xavier was tempted several times to call the hospital and get a doctor, genuinely worried about Lance's condition.

He doubted whether Deanna could be relied upon.

In contrast to their tension, Deanna was completely relaxed.

Only then did she take a closer look at the man on the bed.

The man was strikingly handsome.

Even with his pallor and sickly appearance, his features were exquisitely chiseled.

Though she couldn't see his full body, it was clear his muscles were well-defined and evenly distributed, making for a perfectly sculpted figure.

He was irresistibly attractive and oozed sex appeal.

'He's so handsome, like God's masterpiece,' she thought.

A quick glance was enough to make Deanna's heart flutter. She mentally restrained herself, turned her gaze away, and stood next to Ava to wait.

"Ten minutes are up," Xavier said, glancing at his watch.

Deanna stepped forward and carefully removed each needle, one by one, in a deliberate and steady manner.

As she withdrew the last needle, the man's long eyelashes fluttered, and his hand twitched.

He was waking up.

Xavier's tension eased, and he quickly approached the bed, asking, "Mr. Mercer, how do you feel? Are you in any pain?"

Ava sensibly covered Lance with a blanket to preserve his modesty.

Lance, still feverish and pale, tried to move his fingers but felt weak all over.

He attempted to sit up, his voice weak and hoarse, "What happened to me?"

Xavier, on the verge of tears, supported Lance and helped adjust his clothes, his voice trembling, "Mr. Mercer, you were in serious danger!"

Unlike Xavier's emotional response, Lance only nodded slightly, seeming somewhat numb as he closed his eyes in a daze.

"Mr. Mercer? Miss Jones, what's wrong with him?"

Xavier asked Deanna, his concern evident.

"It's normal. He's still feverish and very weak. We need to lower his temperature first. Get a damp cloth and place it on his forehead, and then use some alcohol to rub down his body. The fever should be brought down soon," Deanna said calmly, unfazed by Lance's condition.

"Ava, I'll write a prescription for you. Brew the medicine for an hour, and then have him drink it. That should solve the problem. The last ingredient in the prescription isn't here. I have it in my car. I'll get it for you. In the meantime, start brewing the rest of the ingredients," Deanna instructed.

Ava nodded and immediately set to work. Deanna left to retrieve the medicine and brought it to the pharmacy's decoction room.

After a long day, Deanna was exhausted.

Seeing that there was nothing more she could do, she finally relaxed.

As she left, she glanced back at the rest area and sighed.

What a day.

She had come to do business, only to end up dealing with this mess instead.

The man lying inside was now her debtor, and she had no idea when she'd be able to pay off this debt, but she still went out of her way to help him.

Shaking her head in resignation, Deanna left without saying a word to anyone. She decided to come back in the afternoon when Old Hughes would return.
