Chapter Two
Sitting in my office, I went through all the paper work my assistant sorted out. Sales were doing great and money was flowing just right. Sunset Enterprise was located right downtown of the LA area. The office phone began ringing, taking me from what I was doing. "Hello." My toneless voice spoke. “Mr. Velez, someone by the name of Dexter is here to see you." Abigale, my assistant told me from her end.
“Send him in." I told her immediately after, already knowing it was Dex. I was just curious to why he was all the way out here. Especially without a call to let me know that he would be flying here. Minutes later his presence entered my office.
"Boss man." He spoke, greeting me with a manly hug and dap. “My nigga." I told him after we took our seats. “This shit nice boy." Dex told me looking around my office. “Good looking, bruh. What brings you out to Cali?" I questioned, getting straight to it.
He let out a deep sigh as he readjusted himself in the chair that sat across from my brown desk. “What I'm about to tell you.." he paused. "I don't know know how you gonna take it. You know you my brother and I'm all about your best interest." He sighed. “You know I don't like the beating around the bush shit." I lightly snapped, knowing I didn't have much patience for people who did this.
"Your wife ain't dead bruh." He spoke, trying to read my unreadable body language. Right now I honestly didn't know if Dex was fucking with me, but London ain't somebody name that I play with. “Stop playing with me, G." I told him clenching my jaw. “I wish I was playing." He shrugged. I sat back in my black leather chair, trying to figure out what to say next. Instead no words words came out. After a long moment of silence, I finally spoke. “And you sure bout' this?" I asked, eyeing him intensely. I trust this nigga with my whole life, I knew there had to be some truth behind what he was telling me. “Nigga, I wouldn't be all the way out here if I wasn't." He pulled out his iPhone 11 from his pocket.
Handing his phone over to me, I looked at the image in disbelief. It was indeed her, my wife. “Who took this?" I questioned, trying to restrain myself from the rage of anger that came over me. I saw her lifeless body in that hospital bed with my own two eyes, how could this be? “You know I got people tryna find that bitch ass nigga Chad." He spoke, clenching his jaw. We both knew he was the one responsible for London's so called death, but there was no trace of him after the events that occurred.
It’s like he became a ghost again, but now receiving this new information about my wife, he was the last person on a nigga mind.
"Check this, I don't know why your shorty did some crazy shit like dat' cuz, but we closing in on Chad." He grinned. “Where she at?" I questioned ignoring the Chad statement, still looking at the image that was displayed of Dex's phone screen. “To be honest, ion' know bruh. But I do know this photo was taken in Delaware, two weeks ago." He told me truthfully.
In this exact moment, I could finally be honest with myself. I didn't know how to take this information, but I knew that I was furious. Mourning your dead wife ain't no walk in the park. Imagine enduring countless-sleepless nights, having to hide the truth from your daughter, seeing the casket go into the ground and, dealing with the aftermath, just for someone to tell you she ain't dead.
"Mane, this some bullshit." I snapped once again, tossing his phone across the desk. “I know bruh, I know." He spoke shaking his head. "This why I had to come tell you face-to-face, I knew it was gon' fuck you up." Getting up from my chair, I walked over to the wide windows, this isn't how I expected my Wednesday afternoon to go. “I need you to find her." I told him as my back faced him. "Quick too." He nodded, “Already on that. I should have more info fa' you soon." With that, our conversation came to an end. After leaving me in my office alone I launched the office phone into the wall, causing it to break.
A shit ton of emotions ran through me all at once. I already had Chad fake his death, I told her what that did to me. But here she is, faking her shit too. I felt betrayed and the sooner Dex and his guys find her, is the sooner she could get to talking. A nigga needed answers, like now.
Each betrayal begins with trust and that's the scary part.
