CHAPTER 6: AMELIA'S LAST WISH.

"Oh... Well, I think you and Ethan should discuss on it then, you both need to agree first." Maltida adviced.

She had raised that question to discern the thoughts of Jane relating to Ethan and now she had confirmed it. She, as a mother wasn't cool with such arrangement. But she knew how much her son loved Amelia and she didn't know if he would oblige to be with Jane as a result of fulfilling Amelia's last dying wish.

"Yes, Mrs. Roy, you're right, I believe I and Ethan should have a deep conversation about this first. Ethan? When do you reason we can go out to talk about this?" Jane probed him, knowing it would be hard for Ethan to refute her in presence of the two families.

"Oh. Actually, I'm the busy type, and I usually don't have much time to spare. But for the sake of Amelia, I will make time for you tommorow, twenty minutes at most." Ethan stated bluntly and excused himself afterwards.

He was already getting pissed with the whole arrangement and as a man with a heart, he knew what he was going to say to Jane, but it would be better if he tells her privately not in front of everyone. She might feel embarrassed.

Jane felt bad in regards to Ethan leaving dining area in such manner—was she not appealing to him enough?—but still, she would get to see him privately tommorow. She felt relieved as she speculated this.

Shannon also wasn't pleased with the way Ethan had responded to her daughter earlier, with this, she already got the idea that getting Ethan to marry Jane wasn't going to be easy, guess, she needed to put in more effort. She concluded.

Maltida ate her meal silently while Lucas and Klaus only conversed on business matters.

After few minutes, Maltida and Lucas joined Ethan in the car, while Ethan greeted Klaus and Shannon who had stepped out to see them off, not sparing Jane one more glance.

Jane and Shannon exchanged glances after the Roys had left, with the latter giving her an assuring look while Jane only had a scrowl on her face.

The atmosphere in the car felt uncomforting for the Roys as the trio had their different contemplations brawling in their minds.

At the end, Lucas cleared his throat whilst driving, breaking the awkward silence in the car.

"Ethan, you shouldn't have stood and leave that way, that was only being rude to them." Lucas scolded his son, although he was calm.

"I'm sorry Dad, I just didn't find it funny when they were trying to bring up my union with Jane." Ethan responded, stating his fact.

"Lucas, I'm really not in acceptance of such an idea, probably Amelia had just said that due to pain she was feeling as at that time knowing she won't be able to live with her dream man. I see no chemistry between my son and Jane. You have to speak to the Wilsons to drop that notion." Maltida spoke up, making her stance known.

Ethan was happy his mum also didn't accept for him to marry Jane. To him no one had the potential to win his heart except his Amelia.

Lucas exhaled loudly. "I am not forcing Ethan to go against his wish, but I would like that he give it a deep thought. Jane might also be a nice lady, Amelia wouldn't have recommended her if she wasn't good for him." Lucas replied.

"Ok then, I believe my son will choose right, moreso, there are other classy, good girls out there, not only Jane." Maltida retorted as she glued her face to the window while Lucas focused on driving.

Ethan only shook his head, seeing how his parents were brawling concerning him as if he wasn't present.

—Am I still a kid to them? Gosh! Ethan queried in his mind.

It was morning, the first-risen sun had upsurged in the clear vast sky, it flickered in its space beaming day lights into the morning, making the street alleys full of live and flurry of activities.

Hazel had gotten dressed in a torquise blue crepe pencil long-sleeved dress, it fitted her perfectly as the edges rested directly on her knees. She looked dashing and modest. She had just gotten a call from an online food company, telling her to come to their main office for an interview as they needed a marketer who could promote their brand in sales.

Getting to the company. She was ushered in and the manager in charge of recruitment attended to her nicely.

While the interview was going on, a male staff came in to give a report to the manager. He bent his upper body and whispered into the manager's ear.

The manager gave a slight nod and the male staff left afterwards.

The manager excused himself pleading that Hazel hold on a bit while he left the office afterwards.

Hazel waited for another twenty seven minutes before the manager returned to her.

While exiting the company, there was a faint gloomy look plastered on Hazel's face making her pace slow and unsteady.

She soon boarded a taxi and went back home.

While she was walking out of the company, some one had beheld her from afar and a

confused look could be seen on his face. He couldn't figure out why Hazel would be present at such a place by that time instead of being at work. He only resolved his thoughts to wether she had been sent by her higher bosses in RD for an important matter.

****

Wondering what caused Hazel to leave in such manner, was it that she didn't get the job?... Let's take some steps back.

Back to when Hazel was still waiting for the manager to return...

She had almost run out of patience when she heard the door open and the manager walked in with a lady. She looked quite young and still in her early twenties with a graceful face.

Hazel acknowledged the lady with a politeful nod while the lady only glanced at her and said nothing afterwards.

The manager soon introduced the lady as Jane Wilson, the new marketing manager of Spicy bite foods. This came as a shock to Hazel, as what she had applied for was the same position they had now fixed someone in.

"But the interview had not even ended, how come you already fix in someone?" Hazel's face turned frosty, she never banked on such a change of situation.

The manager felt a heat spurring out of him. He couldn't refute the orders of his boss who was the general manager. He had been told to give the position to Jane who is known to be the only daughter left of the Wilsons, such a person can't be ignored or angered, the reason he had decided in his heart to give Hazel the assistant position instead.

He had wanted to speak up and explain things briefly to Hazel but Jane interrupted arrogantly.

"I heard you'll be my assistant; you should know staffs are being evaluated based on their potentials and qualifications, therefore, me being the new marketing manager only implies that I'm more qualified than you are, there's no need to fret on it. So, if you will be willing to work as my assistant, you should start learning on how to humble yourself. Just a piece of advice." Jane spoke in an associal and prideful manner.

The manager felt awkward hearing all that Jane had said. She didn't even allow him to speak, but what could he do?---Nothing!

Hazel was dumbfounded, she didn't believe a lady like this would be this arrogant and insultive, moreso, she had understood from the lady's explanation that it all relates to having connections. This made Hazel felt the lady could be from an influential family whom no one dares to offend. But who was she? Just an orphan which no prestigious background, nor a does she have worthy family member.

But, was she ready to be an assistant under such a person?

Hazel felt confused on what to do as she remained silent, mulling over the lady's words.
