Chapter 7
The car ride didn't take that long, it was silent though and kind of awkward. I didn't have a clue who was sat in the front seat driving us, which meant I wasn't down for starting a conversation in the back of the car with Charlie. We would look at each other smiling but look away, I don't know if I was reading him wrong but he looked nervous, which seems to be a new emotion for him.
We soon pull up at what looked like the beach, maybe it wasn't a good plan to wear a dress, it's always quite windy at the beach. He gets out of the car holding his hand out, I smile taking his hand sliding out of the car. He takes my hand linking it with his, beginning to lead me towards the beach. As we walk I felt the wind begin to pick up, my legs immediately forming goosebumps. As we get closer I notice lights on the sand, as we turn the corner I see a little picnic set up. Did he do all this for me?
"Welcome to our date," he smiles, pointing down a cute picnic on the sand, no one has ever done anything like this for me before.
"You did all this for me?" I ask, looking up at him where he just nods "thank you," I smile, giving him a little side hug.
He soon gestures for me to sit down, I take my seat on the blanket with him beside me. He reaches over taking ahold of a basket, where he starts to pull out little lunch boxes of food placing them on the blanket. I can't believe he did this! Who would have thought a guy like Charlie Wilson would think to do something like this.
We start to make small talk whilst eating the cute little food, we told each other weird stories about our lives. He just finished telling me the time one of his friends accidentally belly-flopped into the sea, it was actually quite funny. I couldn't believe I was enjoying myself, I thought when he asked me out he'd just take me to like a park, but he'd put so much thought into this. As he wrapped his story up a loud splash could be heard, I look ahead to see a man was in the sea. It was probably freezing and it was quite dark out, which immediately makes alarm bells ring in my mind.
"Do you think we should go check to see if he's okay?" I ask, looking over at Charlie who was also looking towards the sea.
He proceeds to nod, so both get up at run to the shore, from there we could see the man was struggling a little.
"I don't think he can swim," I say, looking over at Charlie worriedly, he could be drowning.
Charlie immediately takes his jacket off and begins to run into the cold looking sea, he starts to power swim over to the man who was starting to go under the water. In no time Charlie reaches him, pulling him by the arm above the water, I wish I could do more but I wasn't a strong swimmer, just from the shore you could see how strong the waves were, knowing my luck I'd be swept off too. Charlie pulls the man to shore where I also help to pull him in, the guy starts coughing his guts up as he went.
"Are you okay?" I ask, as we come to a stop where the picnic was set up, I move the food of the blanket so the man could use it to warm up.
"I-I was walking a-along when I f-fell," he manages to say, he was shivering holding tightly onto the blanket.
"Do you need us to call anyone?" I ask, he didn't look too good but obviously, he'd been in the freezing sea, so I guess that's expected. He shakes his head telling me he'd be fine.
After a little while he tells us he should leave, he thanks us before making his way off the beach. I wanted to walk him home so I'd know he got home safe, but Charlie insisted he'd be okay.
"Well, this is a date I'm never gonna forget" I laugh, once Charlie and I were alone again, he turns laughing too.
"Yeah, it's been splashing" he jokes, I laugh shaking my head looking around "it means we're gonna have to go on another one, to make up for this one, that's if you want too" he smiles, raising an eyebrow causing me to laugh.
"Yeah, we've had a whale of a time on this one" I laugh, he laughs but I have to look to the floor "let's hope my brother doesn't find out about this," I say, he would flip his lid if he found out.
"I couldn't give a damn what the man thinks" he simply says, I just roll my eyes looking back to the sea, let's hope I don't see another drowning man "this is gonna happen whether your brother likes it or not, I wanna try us out Miya, as you know I don't spend my time doing the best things but with you, I can be a different person," he says, walking towards me taking my hands "I know we've just met and trust me I'm not used to having these feelings but, I want to try this and see where it goes" he continues, I look up at him studying his face.
I can't believe I'm stood here, with Charlie Wilson, whose telling me who wants to start something with me. I mean I can't deny that I'm not slowly growing little feelings, as terrifying as that is. But I know what kind of life he lives and somehow don't know what kind of stuff he does, I think I just need to listen to my heart and see where it leads me.
"Marley is gonna be so annoyed if he finds out" I start, he gives me a look making me laugh "but, he doesn't get the right to run my life or control it, so okay, let's see where this thing goes" I smile, he smiles pulling me towards him planting a kiss on my lips.
I didn't know what I was getting myself into.
