Chapter 3 - Alarm on the Plane

On the first day of the new year, Carol slept away the entire day in her apartment.

Without eating or drinking, opening the windows, or even turning on her phone.

The next day, she rallied her spirits, put on makeup to conceal her haggard appearance, and went to the airport.

Today she was leading a flight attendant team to Rome, for a twelve hour flight journey. She had to force herself to be energetic.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome aboard South Sky Airlines flight 619. The plane will be taking off soon, please fasten your seatbelts, fold up your seatbacks and tray tables."

"The captain for this flight is Hubert Anderson, the chief purser is Carol Wright. If you need any assistance, please notify the flight attendants and we will be happy to provide timely and attentive service..."

Carol recited the announcements from memory, but when the words 'Hubert Anderson' came out of her mouth, her heart still couldn't help but squeeze painfully.

After completing this flight, she would have to go to her supervisor and request a transfer to a different route.

Even though she and Hubert Anderson were the company's acknowledged dream team, she was afraid she wouldn't be able to control her emotions right now and make mistakes.

Once the plane had stabilized and switched to autopilot mode, the first officer and co-pilot were inspecting the cruise status in the cockpit, and Hubert Anderson came out to do his routine cabin check.

Carol had just finished handing out blankets to the passengers when she ran into Hubert Anderson in the galley.

Their eyes met, but neither of them said anything.

As they brushed past each other, Carol noticed faint red marks on Hubert's neck, and her breath hitched for a moment.

The divorce wasn't even final yet, and he was already impatient with Gillian Davies?

Just as she was about to ask, a flight attendant also noticed the red and joked while pointing at his neck, "Oh, Captain Anderson, looks like you have good news coming!"

Hubert was startled, then a faint smile appeared on his usually frozen face, "Soon."

"Remember to give us candy when it happens..." flight attendant Glenys Clark said laughingly as she grabbed Carol's arm, smiling meaningfully.

Only then did Carol realize they had misunderstood. She gently cleared her throat and looked calmly at Hubert Anderson, the corners of her mouth turning up just right, "Captain Anderson is getting married? I wonder who's so fortunate to become Mrs. Anderson..."

Glenys Clark's expression froze, and she unconsciously let go of Carol's arm, exchanging looks with the other flight attendants.

Hubert Anderson's gaze swept coolly over Carol, his thin lips moved, but he didn't say anything.

"Beep beep beep..."

Just then, a shrill alarm sounded from the cockpit, and all the crew immediately went on alert.

The first officer rushed out, looking flustered as he turned to Hubert Anderson, "Captain Anderson, fire alarm in the cargo hold!"

Carol's heart leaped into her throat. The plane was still in the air, if a fire broke out and wasn't handled promptly, it could lead to an explosion and a crash!

Hubert's brows furrowed as he decisively instructed the first officer, "Contact air traffic control immediately to arrange the closest airport for an emergency landing, initiate emergency evacuation procedures!"

At the same time, Carol reacted by directing all the flight attendants to stay calm.

The lives of the 188 passengers in the cabin were in their hands, they absolutely could not panic!

After confirming the alternate landing site, Carol made an announcement over the intercom to wake up those who had just fallen asleep.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the plane has a mechanical issue and needs to make an emergency landing!"

"Please exit orderly and quickly through the doors once the plane has come to a stop!"

The plane landed at Fushan Airport in Yangcheng, and the doors opened.

Carol led the flight attendants to help passengers orderly slide down the inflatable slides. No one knew when the plane might explode, but every second of delay brought them closer to death! It was Carol and her team's responsibility to protect all the passengers!

"You all go first, keep everyone calm!" Carol instructed the five female flight attendants in her crew, then went back to do a final check.

Hubert Anderson and the two other pilots came out of the cockpit, about to slide out of the cabin, when they saw Carol still checking and their expressions instantly changed.

"Carol!"

Hubert Anderson had just started to go back in when thick smoke rolled in from the cargo hold area, and Carol's petite figure was engulfed in smoke!
