Chapter 49: If You're too Tired, Try to Let it Go
Ivan nodded and led Yanis to the parking lot.
"Yanis, I'm sorry. If I had known Zane and Neve were coming tonight, I wouldn't have brought you here without thinking it through."
As they walked to the parking lot, Ivan apologized once again to Yanis.
If he had known in advance that Zane would also be at the Jewelry Sales, he would have made different plans and not asked Yanis to accompany him.
Yanis softly shook her head, "It's okay. Manches City is huge, and the Lawrence family is involved in so many industries here. It's inevitable to run into him, but I'll get used to it."
"Yanis, if you feel uncomfortable, don't force yourself."
Yanis murmured, "I know."
Ivan placed his hand on Yanis' shoulder and patted her gently, "Well, let's forget about those unpleasant moments. Tonight, there's still something to celebrate. I spoke to Darin, and he was quite impressed with your drawings. I believe he really likes your work."
Yanis looked at Ivan and said, "I've heard that Mr. Walsh is very traditional and serious. But after meeting him today, I feel like he's not as serious as people say."
Hearing Darin's name, Ivan chuckled softly and said, "He can be very serious and traditional at work, but in normal situations, he's actually a really nice person. If you don't know him well, you might even think he has a split personality."
"I think I'll be fine."
Ivan said, "If he ever criticizes you, don't take it too personally."
Yanis nodded, "I won't let it affect me."
Hearing Yanis' response, Ivan nodded, "Good. Shall I drive you back then?"
"Thank you for offering to drive me home, Mr. Baxter."
Ivan stepped forward and opened the car door for Yanis, making a gentlemanly gesture, "It's my pleasure to serve Miss Thompson."
Yanis smiled and gracefully got into the car without looking back.
Unaware of Zane's presence, who was standing in front of the Harborview Restaurant with a cold expression, Yanis didn't see him as Ivan helped her into the car and closed the door. After that, Ivan got into the driver's seat, and they drove away.
Zane, with one hand in his pocket, watched the car leave with a cold gaze. Only after it disappeared from sight did he withdraw his eyes, still looking cold.
Darin spoke up, "Mr. Lawrence, if your assistant doesn't come, shall I give you and Miss Bennett a ride?"
Zane looked at Darin, "No, thank you. You can go ahead."
Darin nodded, "Alright, I'll head back then. I'm a bit tired after today's work, and I have a design to submit."
Zane nodded and shook hands with Darin in farewell.
"Goodbye, Miss Bennett."
Neve extended her hand and shook Darin's, "Goodbye, Mr. Walsh."
As soon as Darin left, Albi pulled up next to Zane and Neve, parking the car.
After parking, Albi got out and opened the door for them, "Mr. Lawrence, Miss Bennett, please."
Zane got into the car first.
Neve hesitated for a moment when she saw Zane enter first, but then smiled at Albi before getting into the car herself.
Albi closed the door, walked around to the driver's side, and got in.
As soon as he closed the door, Zane's voice sounded, "Drive Miss Bennett home first."
Albi responded, "Alright."
Neve sat next to Zane, feeling visibly upset.
She had thought that after returning from abroad, Zane would take her to stay at D-king Castle.
She never expected that upon her arrival, the bed would be moved out right in front of her.
It was evident what the purpose of that was.
The more Neve thought about it, the angrier she became.
If she was unhappy, she wouldn't let anyone else be happy.
Neve glanced at Zane, who was sitting beside her, and sighed as if casually chatting, "Zane, Miss Thompson and Mr. Baxter seem to have a close relationship."
Zane frowned upon hearing Neve's words, but he didn't respond to her.
Undeterred, Neve continued, but still received no response.
Neve's smile faded, "Zane!"
"What is it?"
Neve grew even more frustrated. She stared at Zane's expressionless face for a while before turning to face Albi, who was driving, and said in a serious tone, "Albi, stop the car!"
Upon hearing Neve's command, Albi subconsciously glanced at Zane through the rearview mirror.
"Albi, stop the car."
Albi complied, pulling over to the side of the road.
As soon as the car came to a halt, Neve grabbed her bag, opened the door, and stepped out.
Zane didn't say anything to stop her.
As Neve slammed the car door shut, Zane instructed Albi directly, "Return to D-king Castle."
Albi looked at Neve, who was standing on the sidewalk, and seemed like he wanted to say something.
"Do you want to go down and accompany her?"
Upon hearing Zane's words, Albi immediately withdrew his gaze and continued driving away.
Neve had thought that Zane would probably try to coax her. Even if he didn't love her, Zane would give in due to their agreement.
However, she never expected that Zane wouldn't say anything and wouldn't even spare her a glance when she got out of the car.
Standing still and watching the car drive farther away, Neve stomped her foot in anger.
In the end, Neve unjustly blamed Yanis for everything.
Taking out her phone, Neve dialed a number.
The call was answered promptly, "What a coincidence! I was just about to call Miss Bennett, and here you are calling me."
Neve's tone was filled with frustration, "What did you want to talk about?"
"Miss Bennett, the last photo you asked me to expose... I had the negatives on my computer, but it got hacked."
Neve furrowed her brows, "It doesn't matter. It's not a big deal anyway."
The person on the other end inquired, "Who is that woman?"
"None of your concern." Neve paused for a moment, then said, "Do you still take other assignments?"
"Miss Bennett, what can I help you with?"
Neve replied, "I want you to investigate someone for me. I need all the details about her life from birth until now."
"Is it still that woman?"
"Yes."
"Miss Bennett, for the right price, I can do anything for you."
"Half a million dollars, and I want all the information."
The person on the other end chuckled, "Miss Bennett, isn't that price a bit low? You used to be one of the most popular actresses, and you made a fortune at your peak, right? Moreover, the Bennetts are a powerful and wealthy family. Be generous. Let's settle at eight hundred thousand dollars. I'll make sure to find out everything in as much
detail as possible, including what she ate every day for the past years, just for you."
Neve hesitated for a few seconds, "Alright, eight hundred thousand dollars. I'll send you three hundred thousand dollars first, and I'll give you the rest in two installments based on your progress."
"Miss Bennett, you are truly generous."
