CHAPTER 7

Rodrigo was getting ready for a meeting with Fabio. It was a family meeting where they weighed which group was performing better. This family meeting was crucial because it determined who would get more power.

“Are you going to tell her?” Fabio broke the awkward silence. “Tell her what?”

“The real reason you're marrying her.” Rodrigo sighed while buttoning his shirt. “Is it necessary? She'll eventually find out”

“Do you think she'll stay after she finds out?” “I can't tell her right now, I might lose her.”

I heard a knock on the door. “Come in.” Greta, the housekeeper, entered.

“Sir, I've been knocking nonstop on Mrs Hillary's door, but she's not opening.”

Rodrigo walked out of the room and made his way towards Hillary's room. He knocked twice. He stood there for some time and knocked the third time.

He tried opening the door, but it was locked. He knocked again, and there was still no response. He got impatient and scared. He immediately called the housekeeper to bring him the spare keys.

He opened the door and saw Hillary lying on the floor. He panicked as he saw her state. He immediately rushed to her side and checked if she was breathing.

Luckily, she was. He looked around and saw sleeping pills on her table. “Where the fuck did she get that.” He immediately pulled out his phone and called his personal doctor.

The doctor finally arrived and he started to examine her. “You better save her or count your living days over.” Rodrigo threatened.

The doctor swallowed the lumb in his throat and started to examine Hillary.

He paced up and down in the room as he waited for the doctor in anxiety.

“She's going to be fine, she didn't take too many pills. She also has PTSD (post traumatic syndrome).

She needs enough rest and she'll be fine. Also refrain from doing anything that will trigger her PTSD”. “Okay.” The doctor left while handing him some prescriptions.

He sat beside her bed, flooded with thoughts. He knew he was the reason for her current so he felt guilty. Which felt weird to him because he has never really cared for anyone.

The reason why he married her wasn't because he loved her or liked her, he had his own reason. But after staying with her for a while he realised that he was warming up to her.

Everything from the start was to make her think he was in love in order for her to stay, but for the first in a long time he was actually scared of losing someone.

“Rodrigo, what about the meeting?” Fabio entered the room. “I can't make it, I have to stay with her, go in place of me.”

Fabio was surprised at what he just said. “You're skipping such an important meeting for her?” “Yes, now leave,” He said firmly.

Fabio exited without uttering another word because he knew better than anyone not to anger Rodrigo.

Rodrigo's gaze shifted back to Hillary when she started to wake up. He got up from the chair and sat on the bed. Hillary opened her eyes slowly and sat up.

Hillary looked confused because Rodrigo looked scared. “What happened?” She asked.

“We found you lying unconscious after taking some sleeping pills.”

Hillary sighed. She then remembered what she did last night. She had a nightmare about Yoshim and couldn't sleep so she took some pills.

She slept on the floor because she felt more comfortable.

Rodrigo felt bad because he thought it was because of what she saw that night.

“Where did you get those pills?” “I asked Greta to get them for me.” He sighed and pinched the skin in between his brows.

“I'll leave you to rest, don't take those pills again.” She nodded and he left.
