Chapter 2 Areli Fanshaw
Three minutes later, Lillian knocked on the door at the end of the hallway with Darnell in tow. A pleasant yet commanding voice quickly responded, "Please, come in."
Lillian hurriedly pushed open the slightly ajar door and led Darnell inside. "Miss Fanshaw, the first interviewee is here."
Darnell didn't see anyone in the office at first glance. He scanned the surroundings. It was a river-view office, equipped with a bathroom, about sixty square meters, quite luxurious.
Standing by the window, one could see the Whiteville River. In Whiteville, where every inch of land was worth a fortune, this space would cost over a million dollars.
He couldn't help but marvel at Spectrum Pharmaceuticals being Westergold's top pharmaceutical company. Even a branch manager's office was this opulent.
Darnell also keenly noticed that the seemingly bright office concealed over a dozen cameras. This woman was cautious in her actions.
His gaze then fell on the desk more than ten meters away, where he saw Areli, someone he had seen countless times online and in magazines.
She wore a light black professional suit. Even with a somewhat rugged-looking pair of black-framed glasses on her face, she couldn't hide her decisive demeanor and vibrant youthfulness.
Her fair, straight, and slender legs made Darnell's eyes widen. Her calves were slim, her thighs round and firm, her ankles slender and smooth. On her feet were black leather strap heels with tassels, creating a stark contrast that left a strong visual impact.
Darnell guessed those legs were at least a meter long.
As the general manager of Spectrum Pharmaceuticals' Whiteville branch, Areli was indeed young and exceptionally beautiful.
While Darnell observed Areli, she also squinted at him. Red shirt, shorts, and sneakers?
This was a workplace, not a bullfighting ring.
She couldn't understand why such a person appeared before her, but her professionalism suppressed her displeasure. If her subordinate brought him for an interview, there must be something special about him.
She believed Lillian wouldn't dare mess with her.
Areli leaned back slightly and turned to Lillian. "Lillian, give me his resume."
Lillian opened the folder but found no resume for Darnell. Her heart sank. She had really run into trouble. This guy wasn't even an applicant! He was just an imposter taking advantage of the situation. However, there was no turning back now. She tugged at Darnell's sleeve and cautioned,
"Give your resume to Miss Fanshaw. Hurry up."
Areli frowned slightly, sensing something amiss, but she wouldn't question her subordinates in front of outsiders. She turned to Darnell and asked,
"Do you have a resume?"
Her tone was as cold as ice.
"Of course!"
Darnell slapped his forehead and then fumbled in his pocket. First, he took out a carrot, then another carrot.
Lillian wanted to strangle him. Why did this man have so many carrots in his pocket?
Just as Lillian was about to lose hope, Darnell finally pulled out a piece of paper from his chest pocket and eagerly placed it in front of Areli.
"Miss Fanshaw, here's my resume."
Areli glanced down, her face instantly darkening. "What is this?" She stared at him.
The paper wrote, “Darnell Halford, 23 years old, born and raised in Westergold...”
The beginning seemed normal enough, but what followed infuriated Areli. Educational background, certificates obtained, social practice, and internship experience, all written with one word “None”!
"What does 'None' mean?"
Areli had prided herself on her composure, but seeing this resume made her lose her temper. She squeezed time out of her busy schedule to interview an assistant only for such a man to show up.
"Mr. Halford, can you explain what it means?"
Darnell looked curiously at Areli. "Miss Fanshaw, 'None' means nothing. Such a simple meaning and you don't understand?"
Areli nearly exploded with anger. She pressed down on the resume and muttered under her breath, "You have nothing and dare to come here for an interview?"
She also glanced at Lillian, who avoided eye contact and lowered her head, silently cursing that she was doomed because of this man.
"But I have a passion for life!"
Darnell's face was sincere as he continued, "My passion gets me where I am right now, telling me I can do it. And I truly believe I'm suitable for this position. That's why I'm here. Miss Fanshaw, please believe me. No one is more suitable to be your assistant than I am. I may lack academic achievements..."
"But I have a heart full of enthusiasm and passion."
Looking at his serious expression and gazing into his determined eyes almost convinced Areli.
However, Areli didn't buy it. As a standout forged through the ups and downs of business battles, how could she be fooled by Darnell? She spoke coldly,
"You are wasting everyone's time."
Darnell sighed lightly, "I am sincere."
Areli had never encountered one like this man before and she began to lose patience. She directly burst out in Russian,
"Leo Tolstoy said in 'War and Peace' that everyone has flaws like apples bitten by God, but some have bigger flaws."
Without hesitation, Darnell responded fluently in Russian, "The more bites taken out of it, the riper the apple becomes. The more revealing, the more alluring the woman becomes."
Hearing Darnell's response, especially in perfect Russian, startled Areli momentarily before frowning again at his words. "What nonsense?"
Darnell calmly replied, "It's a line from a porn called 'Women's Maturity'."
What a bastard!
Using something erotic to counter a great quote infuriated Areli. She then burst out,
"A self-conceited person ultimately destroys themselves within their conceit."
Darnell still responded crisply, "One who claims incompetence before getting laid is a coward in life!"
Areli was furious beyond measure. She switched to French.
"For one to gain recognition, they must first have an honest attitude and proper conduct."
Darnell didn't hesitate before talking back. "Recognition doesn't depend on attitude but on how long you can last in bed," he said with a look of serious expression.
