Chapter 4
She sat there for a moment until she saw a bunch of multicoloured butterflies flying near her. Josefina smiled as she stood up and walked towards them.
She followed them like a five-year-old. What on earth was she thinking? She was lost. Instead of looking for the group, she was watching butterflies.
She smiled.
'What the hell am I going to do?' Breathe, Josefín, breathe. Calm down; nothing's wrong. You're just disoriented; you'll find your way back soon, and everything will be fine." But if you don't, a bear will come and eat you — or worse, one of those huge wolves that live in these woods!" Damn it! Damn werewolf movies!
She continues to watch the swarm of butterflies fluttering in one spot when she hears a piece of wood crack nearby. She becomes alert and tense at the same time. She quickly turns around and sighs with relief.
'You?' Seeing the man behind her, she relaxes a little. But what is he doing there? How did he find her so quickly? Was he following her?
'You got lost, didn't you?' he says, smiling as he crosses his arms.
'It seems so.'
'You shouldn't have strayed from the group. I think Tony emphasised that several times.” She was too busy fighting internally.
‘I think it's too late to say that.’
‘My name is Alan. I'm one of the guides.”
'Guide?' So Tony wasn't the only leader; this guy was part of the package too. Although he didn't seem like it, to be honest.
'I'm Josefín,' Alan smiled, causing Josefín's panties to quickly become damp.
“Okay, Josefín, let's go back to the others. Is that OK with you?"
'Yes.' She replied sadly, realising that she was getting excited just by seeing this guy.
But, strangely, it felt like it took them a long time to catch up with the others. Why? If he was supposed to be a guide, he should have known how to get back to the others.
‘Is something wrong?’ she asked, seeing him stop suddenly.
'I marked the path; they should be here, but it seems they've already moved on.'
“What did you say?!” She looked in all directions. 'Are you implying that they've left us behind?'
Alan looked in the direction they had all taken. They're walking fast and it will take us a long time to catch up, especially since Josefín walks very slowly.
‘You heard me, but we’ll catch up with them, maybe by nightfall.’
'Maybe?' That's very comforting. So, are we still lost? Is that what you're saying?'
‘Of course not,’ Alan smiles, making Josefín terribly nervous. She wishes he would stop smiling like that. 'We'll catch up with them.'
'If you say so,' she replied, although she suspected that they were both lost.
When night fell, Alan gave her his tent so she could rest, knowing that hers was ruined.
Josefín felt bad about sleeping outside because of her, but what could she do? He was a stranger; not like Samanta, with whom she could share such a small space.
However...
She peeked out of the tent and saw him standing in front of the fire he had quickly made. He really did have extraordinary skills.
“You're really going to sleep outside?”
'Yes, don't worry, I'll be fine.'
'I feel guilty.'
Will you give me a spot in the tent?' She looked up and, in the light of the fire, his eyes looked golden.
Once again, Josefín's heart threatens to jump out of her mouth. What was happening to her with this man?
“I...”
She quickly got into the tent, curling up on her knees and looking at the entrance. What was going on?
