Chapter 7: Caroline's Past
"I shifted to my wolf side...when I saw her in danger." Jungkook beamed, a small smile formed on his lips.
Caroline looked at her only son, tears dwelling down her cheeks in embarrassment, shame, and guilt. It was eating her out. She turned around, storming out of the room instead of congratulating his son for transforming into a wolf making Jungkook confused at his mother's behaviour.
Caroline couldn't stop her tears from streaming down and went to her room. Of course, she's happy that Jungkook finally turned into his werewolf transformation when there would be a chance that he wouldn't. She's happy, but how come something inside her was gnawing in pain?
Whenever she looked at Jungkook, she would be reminded of him, her husband— Kim Seokjin.
FLASHBACK
(Seokjin's focus on this flashback is on chapter 41 of Risen)
She smiled while hovering her husband who opened his eyes followed by a smile appearing on his lips. Her husband tucked a hair behind her ears making her giggle.
"Jinnie..." She whispered, not knowing what effect she has on him as she laid of his chest.
"What is it, baby?" Seokjin asked.
"I wanted to tell you something..." She chuckled again, and Seokjin raised his eyebrows as he tried to sit up, bringing his wife to sit up as well. He grabbed her hands and stared at her eyes.
"What is it, my love?"
"I'm—" pregnant. Her words were interrupted as loud bang echoes throughout the forest making both of them jolt up from the bed.
They got outside the small cottage house they are currently living, and to their surprise and fear, they saw a massive pack of wolves approaching them.
"It's father and mother." Caroline whimpered and trembled as Seokjin led her behind him. She clutched onto Seokjin's shirt.
"Go inside the house or get yourself out of here!" Her husband panicked but Caroline resisted and continue to gripped Seokjin's shirt. Seokjin turned around and grabbed her shoulders.
"But Seokjin—"
"I can take care of this, alright?" Seokjin calmly said as he pulled her in a tight embrace before putting a kiss of her forehead. "I will talk to them."
Caroline nodded and got inside the cottage. She closed the door behind her as she paced back and forth, biting her nails anxiously. She waited for Seokjin to come back inside or at least hide. She was pretty sure her father wouldn't let this go knowing how her only daughter—a female royal alpha ran away with a human.
She leaned on the door, attempting to hear their conversation until she heard her father yelling. "Give me back my daughter!"
She expected for Seokjin to answer but there was silence outside. All she could hear was growls from the pack of wolves. And the next thing that happened, she heard loud growls and howls echoing throughout the entire forest making her panic. She doesn't know what was happening.
After a few minutes, she heard silence again. She furrowed her eyebrows and opened the door to see no one. Her eyes widened, turning to her wolf form and trying to sense her husband’s faint smell in the forest. And when she did, she followed it.
A gasp left her lips as she witnessed her own father attacking her husband. He was struggling underneath while his father bit him. She tried to run towards him but winced and grabbed her stomach, howling in pain.
"What the hell—" She groaned, laying on her back and panted heavily as the living inside her kicked so horribly and painfully. She forced herself to stand and walked with grimaced expression. Her eyes locked with Seokjin's beautiful eyes while his mouth moved.
Caroline could barely see it because her mind started to spin off with tears blurring her eyes while watching her husband dying by the hands of her father. She was about to run towards him but someone grabbed her arms, pulling her away from the crowd.
Hence, she was too weak to even fight back and just let the person drag her until she passed out.
After a few hours, Caroline woke up and glanced at the beautiful lady who was putting down some tray.
"W-Water." She attempted to say with his cracked lips and dry throat. The beautiful lady looked at her, nodding.
She sat straight up with the help of the stranger, and drank the water she offered. Caroline mumbled a 'thank you' while the beautiful lady waited for the woman she saved to speak.
"Who are you?" Caroline asked politely before bowing. "I'm Caroline. Thank you so much for saving me."
"Nice to meet you, Caroline. My name is Karla, and it's not a problem really." The woman whose name is Karla smiled. "But can I ask you something?"
Caroline nodded.
"You are pregnant with a half breed right?" Caroline hesitantly nodded, and sighed as Karla looked at her, flustered.
"How did you know that?" Caroline asked, curiously.
"I'm a witch." Karla replied, honestly. "Don't you know what consequences you just made?"
Caroline nodded again, feeling tears forming on her eyes. "I know this child will die if they find out about it."
The cross law would be enough for the child to be killed.
"I know but I can help you with your son, you know." Karla gulped, chuckling awkwardly, rubbing the nape of her neck.
"Are you okay?" Caroline asked, looking at Karla who smiled and nodded. "But really? You can help me?"
"I can but in return you have to give me something."
Caroline's eyes lit. "What is it? Tell me, I can do anything."
"I will tell you later, now let's save your son." Karla smiled and stood up before getting out the room.
After a few minutes, she went back to the room with some objects. She smiled at Caroline and put the objects down on the bed.
"Does the child's father know about you being pregnant?" Karla asked.
"No, he doesn't. I was about to tell him but you know what happened." Caroline sighed, remembering how she almost told him before the attack.
"How is it that you saved me?" She asked, curiously. Karla looked at her and smiled.
"I was with my daughter." She simple replied before grabbing an object.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Karla asked, confirming Caroline's decision. "I will perform some spell to suppress the child inside you. But know this, there might be consequences."
"I'm sure." Caroline responded with firm decision. "Even if I have to die a million times later to save this fetus inside me, I will. This is the first hybrid in the history since no one dared to be in a relationship with other race—"
Her voiced cracked. "And this is my only child with my h-husband."
"Fine." Karla softly said. "Before I perform the magic, I will tell you some after result of the magic."
"If it meant saving my child, then I will bare the consequences." Karla nodded, and Caroline stared at her in anticipation.
"Firstly," Karla started. "Since I'm going to suppress your child, he won't come out until his mate will be born."
"What do you mean?"
"If your child's mate ever get born in this world, he too will be born but will never grow up the same with his mate." Karla explained further. "Even if his mate continues to grow old, he will still be a 4 year old child."
"How will he be with his mate if he continues to be like a child?" Caroline raised her eyebrows.
"This is the trick." Karla took in a deep breath. "If you want him to grow, he needs to die."
"What?!" Caroline shrieked.
"He will never grow but that is unless he die." Caroline knitted her eyebrows together, confused if she should believe her or not. "Second, your child have to die in the arms of his mate."
"Lastly, and remember this, the moment his mate dies, he will die as well."
END OF FLASHBACK
Even up until now, she hoped that Seokjin would've still be alive. Even though it's impossible since it happened thousand years ago, plus Seokjin is a human who can only live less than a hundred years.
But if he is alive, they would've become a family together and hiding away from the cruel world.
If she could turn back time, she would've saved Seokjin and risked her life. If they were able to get out, they would've spent their happiness until their death.
