Chapter 11 Did You Admit It?

Dr. North saw the bewildered look on Edward's face and patiently explained that the Ross family were most skilled in poison-making, but as market demands changed, they evolved into a pharmaceutical company, and the technique was gradually lost. To adapt to the times, Ross Clinic began to emerge. However, the Ross family's greatest expertise still remained in poison-making.

Olivia's blood test revealed several deadly medicinal ingredients, which no ordinary doctor would dare to use in medicine. Surprisingly, these drugs stimulated her body's functions to rejuvenate.

"Such bold medication must be the style of Ross Clinic! And the only one capable of this must be Dr. Lancy, known as 'the Serpent of Grace'!" Dr. North exclaimed excitedly, then became serious again. "Of course, this method violates normal bodily functions and has certain side effects. Even if a suitable heart donor is found and the surgery is successful, the patient will need to be well-conditioned for a while."

"What's the use? Poison is still poison. It can't be legitimized!" Sophie interjected disdainfully. Perhaps subconsciously associating the Ross family with Nanci, she felt an innate repulsion. The thought that it might be Nanci who saved Olivia irked her even more.

She glanced quietly at Edward, who maintained a calm demeanor, showing no emotion.

At two in the afternoon.

Nanci had just stepped out of the hotel when she saw a familiar car parked at the entrance. It was quite conspicuous among the bustling crowd. She hesitated slightly, then saw Isaac coming down from the driver's seat.

He respectfully opened the rear car door. "Mrs. Clarkson, Mr. Clarkson has been waiting for a while now."

Puzzled, Nanci had a bad feeling.

She approached hesitantly and, standing at the door, could feel a familiar presence enveloping her. Edward was sitting on the leather sofa with his eyes closed, his shirt collar untidily open, leaning back lazily.

There was a weary air about him. Hearing footsteps, he slightly lifted his eyelids to look at her.

"Get in the car."

Nanci cursed under her breath for his pretense and stood still. "Weren't we supposed to meet at the courthouse? You've changed your mind and now you want to reconcile?"

Edward didn’t answer her question.

On his way here, he had carefully revisited the events of the past few days. Nanci's surname was also "Ross”. Though he had registered this identity for her, the name was what she had told him. Moreover, Isaac had seen her with Brian recently, so they must have some relationship.

Dr. North said Olivia had been taking medication to recuperate, and her condition was so serious that she only had three days left, but Nanci’s visit suddenly brought a turnaround. There was no such coincidence.

More importantly, last night Dr. Lancy had passed on a cryptic message through Q, which seemed oddly offensive. He didn't recall offending Dr. Lancy, so the sudden targeting was suspicious.

The woman in front of him was either very close to Brian or she was Dr. Lancy. Of course, he hoped it was the former.

Just as he was about to ask for help, swallowing his pride, her smug tone made his mental defenses collapse.

"Don't flatter yourself," he said coldly.

Nanci's mouth twitched. As she wanted to say more, Edward stopped her. "Get in the car. No more talking."

She did as he asked, eager to see what he was up to.

The ride was silent.

They each sat next to the car doors, far away from each other.

Before, whenever they shared a space, she would always find an opportunity to get close to him. Now, was it his morning warning that worked, or was she playing hard to get?

Edward frowned, blurting out, "Why are you sitting so far away?"

Nanci raised an eyebrow. "You don't want me to be close, do you? Since we are getting a divorce, I don't need to be near you!"

Edward was lost for words.

Now she couldn’t be bothered to pretend anymore.

He tilted his head, sizing her up seriously for the first time.

Nanci was only twenty-three this year. She had just turned twenty when he met her. Time seemed to have treated her kindly. Three years as a housewife had left no trace on her face.

Her petite face was fair, void of any makeup. She was dressed in a plain long dress, a knitted cardigan, and flat shoes, revealing her delicate ankles.

Her slightly curled long hair was casually draped over, with a few strands falling on her fair, radiant skin, adding a hint of allure.

From his angle, he could even see her fine, thick eyelashes fluttering. She used to look at him with gentle, tranquil eyes, but now she just quietly watched out the window, unwilling to meet his gaze.

Unsure if it was due to the disparity or his next request, Edward initiated a conversation. "You look nice today."

Nanci turned her head, giving him a strange look.

Had this man lost his mind?

Seeing that she didn't respond, Edward knew she was shy and went straight to the point. "What is your relationship with Brian?"

His question was crafty. He didn't ask if they knew each other but directly asked about their relationship.

Nanci's thoughts stirred. Suddenly, she understood why his attitude had changed.

"Brian? Who is that? I don't know him," she said in a light, calm voice, masking her lie.

"It was you who delivered the medicine to Grandma this morning, right?"

"I don't know what you're talking about!"

Even though Nanci refused to admit it, Edward felt certain now, his gaze deep and locked on her.

An eerie silence fell in the car.

After a long while, just as Nanci was feeling uncomfortable under his scrutiny, he suddenly spoke, "I might have a problem with my brain. Can you check it for me?"

Nanci frowned, visibly shocked.

Isaac, who was driving in front, twitched at the corner of his mouth.

He nearly didn't grip the steering wheel tightly, causing the car to slightly shudder.

Edward glanced over, and Isaac forced himself to calm down. "Sorry, Mr. Clarkson."

"Mr. Clarkson, I think not only your brain but your eyes are problematic too. You ignored your beautiful wife at home and entangled with Miss McGrath. I can't treat your illness, for you're a lost cause."

Since the photo was posted yesterday, the whole world knew she had been betrayed, and she had been holding back a lot of anger.

Lisa's entire face was marked by cosmetic surgery. This man must be blind to fancy such a woman.

Pretending to be passionate this morning was already her limit.

Now this man wouldn’t leave her alone, so she could no longer restrain herself.

Edward did not mind her attitude, but hearing her last remarks, his eyes slightly brightened. "You admit it?"

Nanci frowned. "What?"

Edward squinted, scrutinizing her.

After a while, his voice deepened as he said, "Nothing."

The car stopped in front of the courthouse.

Before getting out, Edward made a significant decision and condescendingly said, "If you can tell me Brian's whereabouts, I can grant you a request."

Nanci's smile was mysterious, her eyes exceptionally firm. "I don't know Brian."

Ten minutes later, the two came out of the courthouse.

Nanci looked at the divorce decree in her hand, taking a long sigh, as if lifting a massive burden.

She raised her hand to hail a taxi. Just as she was about to walk over, a cold voice rang out from behind. "I can give you another chance, Nanci. If you tell me where Brian is, I can forgive and forget."

She looked at the divorce decree in her hand.

She released her grip on the handle of the car door, stood up straight, and looked at him with a half-smile when she asked, "How do you propose to forgive and forget?"

"I can give you what you want, except for marriage."
