Chapter Five
The next day proved to be a much better day starting out. The training was great. Sparring was better because Melissa was back. She and I loved to spar against each other. We liked trying new things out on each other. We kept challenging each other to be better each time.
After training, I had a few hours of downtime before the Alpha’s meeting. I met with Dad in the pack house. We got caught up with a few details that needed addressing with the pack before Alpha Richard called us into the conference room for the Lakewood Meeting.
“Good morning Micah, Troy, Melanie, and Jacob. Where’s Daniel? I thought he was coming to the meeting as well?” inquired Alpha Richard.
“He’s coming, he should be here any minute Alpha,” replied Dad. “He linked he had a flat tire.”
“No accounting for bad luck. Anyway, let’s go ahead and get started, shall we? Troy, open your link for Daniel so he can hear what’s being said,” Alpha Richard commanded.
“Yes, Alpha,” Dad responded.
“Now, next week myself, Delta Troy, Daniel, and Melanie will travel to the Lakewood Pack for a week. Delta Troy and I will hash out a new treaty with Alpha Tucker. Melanie and Daniel will work with their new Delta to help him get situated in his duties. Also, Melanie, you have been specifically requested to help train their females. They need help, it seems that their lead trainer doesn’t think too highly of female warriors. They need you to show them how to train females. Any questions so far?” Alpha Richard inquired looking at us.
Daniel knocked on the door. Knock. Knock.
“Come in,” commanded Alpha Richard.
“Who is their lead trainer may I ask?” I asked hesitantly.
“His name is Clarke Downey. It’s not his fault that the pack has not trained its females. Alpha Tucker’s father, the former Alpha didn’t think females should be trained to fight,” scoffed Alpha Richard.
“Why am I not surprised? Just like some of our older wolves here don’t think that females shouldn’t be in leadership positions,” I hissed through clenched teeth. Every time I think about it, I get angry.
“Calm down Melanie. This is why we are taking Daniel with us. So, when you start helping the new Delta, if he has a problem with you explaining things to him Daniel can step in. We don’t want to make the Lakewood Pack an enemy. We are more powerful, but we don’t need to go around making enemies either. Remember that,” reminded Alpha Richard.
“Yes, Alpha,” we chorused.
“What else do we need to know before going there next week?” I inquired of Alpha Richard.
“Well, we will be leaving here Monday morning at 9 AM which means we will arrive there around Noon. We will stay through Friday night and leave Saturday morning at 9 AM. I will advise you if anything changes. Sound good?” Alpha Richard asked all of us.
“Yes Alpha, sounds good,” we chorused.
“Remember to take with you everything you think you will need for the journey and then some. I wanted to have this meeting in advance so we could all prepare ahead of time. I know that Melanie will be training a new person at work to take over part of her position. This is good. Now, she just needs to find her mate,” exclaimed Alpha Richard.
“Really! I know Dad is secretly hoping I find my mate on this trip. Honestly, I do too, but I won’t hold my breath,” I sighed softly as I looked at my hands in my lap. I really did want to find my mate; it would solve my problems with my grandfather and me taking over the position of Delta from my Dad.
“Alright, the meeting is adjourned. Everyone, I will see you Friday night for the pack run. Enjoy the rest of your day. Now Melanie and Daniel, leave so I can talk about you behind your back to your Dad,” laughed Alpha Richard.
“Yes Alpha,” we chorused.
We left the conference room. We walked down to the living room area where I met up with Anderson.
“Hey Danny, how’s everything with you and Rebecca going? Is she going to come as well or is she going to stay here when we go to the Lakewood pack?” I asked him.
“You know what? I don’t know. Maybe I need to ask Alpha Richard if she can come along. I’ve never been away from her before. I don’t know what it’ll be like to be away from her. We’re doing good. In fact, we just found out she’s expecting our first pup. Shh. Don’t say anything yet. I haven’t told Mom or Dad yet. We’re telling them tonight,” exclaimed Danny.
“Congratulations!” I whisper shouted as I hugged and kissed him. “I promise I won’t tell a soul. I’m very happy for you. I know Dad will be over the moon happy for his first grandchild,” I gushed as I continued to hold onto my twin. My wolf was jumping up and down in my head. She was so excited for him.
“Thanks sis. I know how happy your wolf is right now. We’re going to have to shift together soon so our wolves can spend some time together. Love you, Mellie. I gotta go, but I’ll see you for dinner tonight. Mom invited us over for dinner. That’s when we are announcing it,” Danny explained.
“I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Love you, Danny. See you tonight,” I responded as I walked out the front of the pack house with Anderson.
Anderson made sure we stopped to get some lunch before we made it to the office. The rest of the day went by quickly. Before I knew it, Anderson was mind-linking me to remind me it was time to leave so I wouldn’t be late for my family dinner. Thank you, Anderson.
Walking through the front door of the home smelled heavenly. Mom had made Chicken Scampi or some other Italian dish. Whatever it was it smelled delicious. Everyone was there that was supposed to be, I was the last one to come.
We were sitting down to our dinner of Chicken Scampi, tossed salad, and garlic butter rolls when Danny said, “Before we begin dinner, Rebecca and I have an announcement to make. She’s pregnant with our first pup.”
“It’s about time you made me a grandmother,” Mom chirped as she hugged Danny and then Rebecca.
“Congratulations Rebecca and Daniel! That’s wonderful news!” exclaimed Dad as he hugged Rebecca and then Daniel.
“Congratulations! I am so happy for both of you! I can’t wait to be an Auntie,” I exclaimed as I waited for my turn to hug them both.
After all the hugging, we sat down to eat dinner. Our discussion was centered on baby names and such. Mom and Dad were so excited for Danny and Rebecca. They were finally going to become grandparents.
Looking at Daniel, I could see how happy he was with his mate, Rebecca. I want what he has with her. I hope I find that in my mate. When will I find him?
The rest of dinner was spent with Mom telling Rebecca all about when Daniel and I were babies. All the embarrassing stories. She even made Dad go find the photo album so she could show Rebecca some pictures of us as babies. What can you do? She was a proud Mom.
