Her Grandfather is old-school and wants her brother Daniel to become the new Delta instead. Also, she works at the family business--Hunter Security Firm. She heads a division that requires her to be in contact daily with pack Alphas, as well as the Alpha King in the U.S. Why does her Grandfather only have a problem with her being in a position of power within the pack?
Chapter One
Melanie sighed heavily at her desk. She couldn’t wait for this day to be over with. It has been a long day already since training started at six this morning then followed by nothing but meetings. She was beginning to think this day or this week would never end.
Ever since she started working for her father two years ago, she has been diligently working toward her goal of learning how to become her packs Delta and hoping to find her fated mate. Her fraternal little brother of four minutes, Daniel, found his mate a year ago.
Melanie works in the family-owned Security Firm, Hunter Security Firm. She works in a department that works with all the Alphas, Deltas, and even both Alpha Kings. Once she becomes the pack's Delta, she will scale back on her duties at the company, but not by much according to Melanie. She loves her job too much.
“Hey Melanie, do you want to go get a drink after work? A few of us are going to Jerry’s tonight for a few beers. Wanna join us?” Allison chirped as she poked her head inside Melanie’s office.
“I don’t know. It’s been a long day already. I’m tired because I trained this morning,” I complained to her.
“Why do you start EVERY MORNING with a workout at 6 AM I’ll never know. Why can’t you be normal like me?” whined Allison.
“It’s something my Dad got me hooked on a long time ago. I have already explained this to you like a hundred times. Why do I have to keep explaining it to you? Let me double-check my calendar to make sure I’m not missing anything important at home before I say I can come out with you, okay,” I explained as I glanced at my phone.
“Yeah okay. Why you always have to double-check with your Dad is weird. You're like 20 years old, you’re an adult. You don’t have to ask his permission to go out do you?” nagged Allison.
“No, but we have guests coming in from out of town soon. I can’t seem to remember when they’re going to be here. They’re important to my Dad, so I have to make sure … no, I don’t have to ask permission to go out. Let me just double-check, okay? Give me a minute,” I sighed softly picking up my phone.
I wanted to look like I was checking my phone for the information but in reality, I was mind-linking with my Dad.
‘Hey Dad, do we have anything special going on at home or in the pack tonight that I need to be there for?” I inquired.
‘Hi Mellie, not that I’m aware of. Why? Does Allison want you to go to Jerry’s again? Remember to be careful because of what happened last time,’ Dad linked back to me.
‘I will Dad. I promise. I’ll see you in the morning,’ I replied as I ended our link.
“Hey Allie, it looks like I’m free tonight. I can go with you to Jerry’s. Come on girl, time’s a wastin’. I need to unwind after my day today,” I cried out as I tapped on her desk waiting for her.
“I’m coming. Hey, do you think your brother Daniel will be able to join us? He’s hot!” Allison said as she fanned herself as if to emphasize her point.
“Please! He will not be coming out with us tonight. And he’s already taken. Girl, you could do so much better than my brother!” I teased her as we left the office building.
“Why would I want to? Like I said, he’s hot! A lot cuter than my last boyfriend. I need someone who would treat me like a lady. Your brother knows how to do that,” gushed Allison. “Remember how he held my chair out for me the last time he joined us?”
“Oh My God! Really! My mother would have had a heart attack if he hadn’t. He was raised properly. Can we get off the subject of my brother please, especially since we are going to a bar?” I whined as we continued to walk toward her car.
“I guess so. I hope we find some guys who are easy on the eyes tonight. I could use some distraction in my life if you know what I mean?!” hinted Allison.
“Yes, I know what you mean Allie,” I mocked her.
Allison is a human girl who works at our company. We work for Hunter Security Firm. My father, Troy Miller, is now the CEO of the company that has been passed down from father to son in our family like the position of Delta has been. Dad wants to pass the company on to Daniel to keep the tradition going but grandfather wants him to be the Delta instead.
We are werewolves. We belong to the Brookwood Pack. My family has held the position of Delta for the last sixty years. My parents will pass down the position to me when I turn 21 years old. That’s how it’s supposed to be since I am the oldest between me and my fraternal twin brother Daniel. I am only four minutes older than he is.
However, if my grandfather had anything to say about it, I wouldn’t become the Delta of our pack because I am a female. Females should not hold positions of power—that is according to him. But fortunately for me the pack laws don’t see it that way. I am the Delta heir for our pack.
Sorry, I digress. Grandfather only has a problem with females holding power in the werewolf community, not in the human world. Thus, my job at our family-owned security company. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy being a werewolf, but sometimes when my grandfather starts with his prejudice about how females shouldn’t be in positions of power; I start to get angry. I know he’s old school but come on people it’s the 21st Century already.
