Chapter 6
* Chapter 6; His people *
The car took a turn and entered the street. With many tre es, it was peaceful. About three villas, spread out across a wide area, were within her reach.
It reminded her of a scenario from her favorite Kevin Kwan book, "Crazy Rich Asians," when Rachel visited her boyfriend Nick's family home to attend a party as she imagined it. However, she discovered Graham was not 'crazy rich' but ultra-rich when they got to his villa.
His house was spread across several acres, located on a hill that wasn't very steep. It must have cost at least a quarter billion to afford such an eye-catcher.
He hissed mockingly, "Aren't you going to leave the car?"
He caught her gazing in wonder at the location. His hatred only for her only intensified, he hated materialistic women and this woman was one indeed. She managed to get half a billion from him, his name, and protection. He couldn't stand the sight of her.
Rolling her eyes, Gigi watched as Paul manually unlocked the doors.
Two lined-up servants who were waiting to greet them made introductions to her.
Except for Graham, who had his own bottle and used it every 20 to 30 minutes, the staff all used hand disinfectant prior to entering the home.
"The house is bigger inside than outside. " Gigi gasped in wonder. She turned around to find him obnoxiously staring as he was fixated on her. He had an evil glimmer in his eye. She couldn't help but take a deep breath.
'' Why are you staring at me as though I'm a meal? '' She hissed carelessly. She had always been a firecracker. Her parents often warned her about her sharp tongue.
Graham, on the other hand, misunderstood it. He mistook her for flirting with him.
''Do you believe I am interested in you?'' he asked, a strange coldness creeping into his gaze. '' You wish! Believe me, I'm a vegetarian. ''
She was shaking so much with rage. She hadn't previously encountered such insults in her life. '' Men swoon over me, so I assume you are broken. ''
His tone of derision was evident in his "Really" response.
As he cornered her, Gigi unconsciously moved backward while saying, "Yes." She screamed as soon as her back contacted the wall.
When he touched her cheeks, she felt a shiver go down her spine. They soon turned red. Her heart began to beat more quickly than usual. She was afraid of what he would do next.
When his phone rang, Graham went in for another brush because he enjoyed the power he had over her. Gigi was startled by the noise.
He smiled as a result. He had a similar effect on all the girls.
When Graham's attention was diverted from his phone, he twisted a finger in her hair. ''
"You always show me how wrong I am when I think you are unique from the others." The moment he left her, she blew out a breath she had been stifling.
Her heart was throbbing, and she reached her palm up to her chest to feel it.
"You look so pale, dear. Should I get you some juice or water?"
She was questioned by a grizzled old man who appeared to be in his late sixties. He smiled at her. He was dressed casually.
She wondered if he was the grandfather that Sky had mentioned in her record.
'' I am good___ em, do you have mango juice?" Gigi shook her head negatively at first denying him before accepting something else. " Do you have any at home? If not then water will do."
It was not in season. Hence, she did not want to bother the old man with her cravings. Unfortunately, she was used to them being fulfilled.
'' There is a tree in the back, '' the old guy said with a smile. '' I'll bring you some."
"A tree?" Her eyebrows furrowed. She visualized the elderly man ascending the tree and could not accept it.
'' No need. We will do this instead of showing me the tree, I will climb. ''
The elderly man was overcome by a stupor. He started to crackle but quickly stopped when he saw the seriousness on her face. It was the first time he heard a lady saying she would climb up a tree.
Was she not worried about her nails or something?
This girl was something else.
"You just arrived. I'll have a servant handle it. '' he waves dismissively.
When Gigi said, "I think I forgot your name," he stopped in his tracks and turned with a friendly grin. '' Theodore Bundy is here''. He said with humor, waving.
"You mean, like Ted Bundy? You know the serial killer. " One side of her lips rose up.
A vast smile appeared on his face. '' You're funny. You may rest assured because I couldn't even handle a kitchen knife, much less a pistol.''
They both laugh '' He is lucky to have you. Ted suddenly declared.
Without thinking twice, she queried " Who? "
Thinking it was just her sense of humor checking in, he chuckled " Graham."
Gigi remained silent since she was unsure of how to answer.
She barely grinned. She deeply regretted lying to the kind old man. He probably believed they were married.
Even though they were?
It was complicated.
Absent-mindedly, she glanced at the several horse paintings that were displayed throughout the living room. horses roaming freely in the wild with no riders or equipment strapped on their backs.
Her favorite was a picture of a black forest horse sipping from a creek. And in the distance, a person in a cave could be seen admiring the animal.
Inadvertently her eyes located Grahame descending from a horse banister staircase that he also had.
' He must really love horses.' she thought.
Gigi immediately approached and asked, "Such a fan of horses, Huh?"
His face tensed, and his grip on the phone grew rigid. She turned to leave unexpectedly, he spoke casually, and his eyes swept over each painting in the room. '' Really not. The family that sold it to me pleaded with me not to alter anything. ''
He was surprised to see her wiggling her eyelids as she blinked tears from her eyes. His throat tightened as the bile of revulsion rose.
"What? How come you're crying? Do you regret choosing not this house instead of a half billion dollars? ''
Gigi was incomprehensible. He was ignored as she ascended the stairs. She had no idea where she was going, but she only wanted to get out. She was being choked by his presence.
As she crossed the corridor, she stamped her feet in rage.
She was not uncomfortable in her current attire in this house, but Gigi suddenly felt sweaty and realized she needed to take a shower. She tried unlocking every door she came across, but they were all latched except one, which she entered.
The room was enormous—five times larger than her own room at home—and looked very depressing. Aside from the carefully placed bed and the hung curtains, everything was still packed into a box.
Gigi returned to the room in a towel after taking a bath.
The atmosphere in the space was dismal. In her head, ideas were circling. When a furry thing crept up on her leg while she was considering ways to improve the space, she shrieked and leaped to safety.
It appeared to be startled by her cry as it fled under the bed. She flattened herself on the floor and discovered a nice, gray cat with black spots on its fur.
It never stopped purring. Gigi assumed it was scared of her. Like most animals, she came across.
She spoke to the cat in a soft voice, afraid to get it more frightened "Kitty kitty come here. Kitty"
The cat glanced at her before turning away and waving its tail in her direction. Her face lowered.
She pulled a squeaky toy out of her luggage after having an idea.
She bought it since the toy's tone made her feel more at peace.
The cat started moving toward its destination for bed after hearing the sound. She gave it to it, and it rubbed its fur against Gigi's leg while purring. Gigi was unable to resist laughing. She had never owned a pet before, so she was delighted to witness pet affection.
Old Ted raced in terror at this point. His eyes continued to scour the room until they stopped at the cat playing with Gigi.
Ted's face started to smile widely. He exhaled a breath of relief before pinching his fingers together and calling out, "Math, come here."
The cat acknowledged his presence and turned to face him before turning back to Gigi and parading around her.
" I think she likes you. Like a lot! Ted confessed smiling at the duo.
"Really? Animals tend to hate me.'' She flushed before bending to stroke the cat's fur. A memory came in when she was seven and a dog ran after her for five miles straight only to bite her. Since then, she has avoided animals.
Due to the red lines on its head, it was not entirely gray in hue. All the cat would want to do is brush his skin against hers. She enjoyed it.
'' What name did you give her? Math? similar to mathematics. Who thought up such a stupid name? Let me guess__ Graham," she said, laughing heartily.
From what she learned from him all this while, he did not come out as one with a creative imagination. He appeared too serious.
'' I'm not sure why, but it sort of stuck. Fun fact: Math only enjoys Graham's company. ''
This caused Gigi to stop petting the cat.
