Chapter Three.
Mirabelle's POV.
"If you are as innocent as you claim to be, and you didn't cheat on me, then what is this video about?" Ken asked and shoved the phone screen to my face, but my gaze dropped to my feet, knowing I had no evidence to prove that what happened last night wasn't done on purpose.
“I can’t overlook the fact that you have hickeys all over your neck and only God knows elsewhere, Mirabelle. You’re a walking testament against yourself and our marriage so just pick up those damned papers and sign them this minute!”
I fought back my tears as they tried to spill over.
How could I have let such an act happen to me?
Sniff, sniff, wiping my tears away as more and more of them trickled down my cheeks.
"Don’t make me force you to sign those papers, Mirabelle Estella Davies!" Ken called my name in full, gnashing his teeth in irritation as he balled his fist.
I immediately grabbed his hands as I shook my head. "I can’t sign it, Ken. This was never my fault. I don't know how it happened. I am so sorry." I pleaded with him out of desperation.
I love Ken. I have always loved him right from our high school days. He was forcing me to Divorce him, and at that moment, it just seemed like the most impossible task of my entire life.
Divorcing Ken would be the last thing I would ever think of doing, even on my deathbed. So I can't sign the divorce papers.
"You are my husband. I love you and I can't let you go. I can't even think of signing the divorce papers. I just hope you will forgive me cause I didn't plan for such a thing to happen to me. I did not realize in time that the stranger wasn't you.”
“Fine then since you want it this way,” Ken declared and began picking up the papers.
"Wh_what are you up to?" I stuttered. Why is he picking up the papers?
He grabbed my right hand within the blink of an eye.
"K_ken? What are you..." I fumbled for words as my eyes almost bulged out of their sockets out of astonishment, a gasp escaped my lip as Ken began to scribble my signature across the pages of the divorce papers in the needed places.
"What is this you are doing? Please stop. Don't do it. You can't force my signature on the papers against my will, Ken. This is wrong!" I begged him as I tried to wriggle my wrist out of his hold but it was so tight that no matter how hard I tried, it ended up futile.
I kept struggling with him, but it was very clear that he was much stronger than I was, with the feeling of my bones almost crushing in his hand as he made sure he filled my name on every page.
Between my struggles, the side of my eyes caught sight of someone else in the room.
No. There are two people in the room. Their hands were crossed over their chest as they watched me struggle against my husband, not bothering to help me out or to stop him.
One of them was putting on a uniform similar to that of a lawyer and it made me wonder why he wasn't doing anything to help me out of my situation.
Wasn't it against the law if a partner Was forced into signing a divorce paper against the person's will? If it's true then I must say that he wasn't doing a good job as a lawyer for sure.
But that wasn't what bothered me the most. What got me worked up was the other person standing amongst us with a satisfied grin curved on her red lip.
It was my stepsister, Mitchelle. A gush of relief hit me as my hopes ran high like adrenaline.
"Mitchelle! Help me, please. Stop him! I don't want to sign the divorce papers; he is forcing me, Mitchelle," I cried out in hopes that she would stop Ken, but she didn't move an inch.
"I beg of you, stop smiling and just help out. Stop Ken before it's too late. Pull him away from me!" I screamed again but Mitchelle stood in place, acting like she didn't hear a thing!
What's wrong with her?
"Done!" Ken said as he released my hand and took some steps away.
"What? You're done? No! This can't be happening." I muttered in disbelief.
Mitchelle giggled as she walked up to Ken and then snaked her hand around his arm romantically.
"You did a great job, honey," She said as she cupped Ken's chin in her palm and pulled him for a kiss.
I stared at them, feeling dumbstruck and confused.
Why would Mitchelle kiss him? That too, right before me. Is there something I don't know here?
After they pulled away from each other, Ken went over to the lawyer, gave him the document, and then shook his hand.
They whispered some words to each other, the lawyer gave a slight nod and then left.
My gaze slowly returned to Mitchelle's unapologetic face. She sneered at me once she saw me looking at her, and I could feel my fingers curl into fists as I walked up to her.
"Why didn't you help me out when I needed you?" I asked, controlling the urge within me. "You just stood there, smiling at me like you never heard me. And why did you do that Mitchelle?" I asked and she arched an eyebrow at me.
"Why did you kiss my husband? Tell me everything I need to know before I end up doing what I'll regret later on. I need to know why so start speaking up!" I demanded.
"Are you guys having an affair? Cause I mean, that would be the only explanation as to why my sister would dare stand before me and kiss my husband without feeling guilty!"
"Tch." Mitchelle rolled her eye at me and then pointed her finger to my face. "Point of correction, Ken is no longer your husband. He is now my husband. He is mine!" She declared, shocking me to the core.
Her husband? Is this some joke? Was that the real reason why Ken forcefully divorced me? To be with her, my sister?
"This is what you get for going around sleeping with several men out there while being married you fucking slut!" Mitchelle cussed at me, but I still couldn’t believe my ears.
"What did you say?" I asked, and the tension in the atmosphere rose as I drew a step closer to her.
"You are a Whore, Estella! A motherfucking unfaithful bitch!" I immediately ran my palm across Mitchelle's cheek as she said those words, but I didn't get to slap her face cause... Ken caught my wrist!
