childhood memories

Chapter six(childhood memories)

Sapphire's Point Of View:

I went home immediately the next day. Last night was one of the hottest nights ever. Mr. Landon exceeded my expectations.

He did things to me, I knew it. Things I didn't expect him to do. Things I thought he was joking about.

‘I won't stop until you beg, until you cry.’ I remembered his sexy words.

I sighed as I got out of the taxi and went into the house. Mum was there in the living room with some snacks and a blanket as she watched the tv.

Crap! I thought she wouldn't be home, but how could I have forgotten that she had no job.

She noticed me and immediately sprang out of the couch. “We have a threat!” She informed me.

“When did I start taking the mafia family seriously?” I asked, laughing as I threw my bag on the couch.

She stretched her hand and placed it on my shoulder. “I thought we talked about this. I understand you want a simple life but it's your responsibility right now, just for a few years. When you get married and have a child, maybe your child would be nothing like you. Please, Sapphire.” She pleaded.

I let out a sigh, shaking my head before drawing out my phone to call one of the mafia men. “I need to go to work now so I'll get Dave to do it.” I said before dialing Dave's number.

“Hey, David.” I said as soon as he answered the call.

“Oh. Hey, boss. It's been a long time, I thought the mafia isn't running anymore.” He replied.

I smiled bitterly, “It wasn't, but it is now.”.

Mum's contagious grin got to me immediately.

“Oh. I'm glad. I'm so thrilled to hear that.” He responded.

“Mhmm…… we have a threat but I'm currently busy and I can't take care of them right now.” I stated.

“Oh, sure. I'll be happy to help. Send in the details to me, okay?” He asked.

“Sure. My mum will do it.” I replied. “Thank you.” I added.

“Sure.” He responded before ending the call from his end.

I smiled at Mum, “Happy now?” rolling my eyes.

She chuckled, “Yeah. Give me a hug at least before you go to work.” She asked.

I stared in disgust. “When did we start getting along, huh? You know we both have a problem.”.

“We have to work it out.” She said,

I sighed, shaking my head, “We had a chance to get along since I was little but you chose to neglect me for work, the mafia, and for men.” I replied, smiling bitterly as I stared at the floor trying to fight back my tears.

“I needed to work. Since your father was dead when you were just three, you were automatically the new mafia lord but you were little so as a strong woman, I needed to take over for you. You should thank me, you would've been killed by threats or stolen from my arms if I wasn't competent. Besides, I wanted you to have a father, that was why I was chasing men. Everything was for your sake, Sapphire. I never wanted you to be lonely. I even tried my best to create time and space for you, my little angel, but now I'm the bad guy huh?” She said, also trying to fight back her tears, it was evident in her shaking voice.

“I never said I needed a father. All a child needs is mostly motherly love, especially for a child who doesn't have a father or any sibling. I craved love, and for a child who craves love, motherly love is what I needed the most. Yet you're here telling me you didn't want me to be lonely and that was your top priority. Of course, you're the bad guy. You should have known better.” I retorted, a tear falling out of my eyes as I licked my lips, swallowing the lump in my throat.

“It's not too late to work this out, Sapphire. I want my daughter not some stranger lady who hates me and tries her best to avoid having a conversation with me. I know this isn't easy for you, neither is it for me. We need this!”.

I scoffed before wiping my tears, “There's nothing to work out, I already hate you. All I just want to do now is leave this fucking house and leave you with your shit. Changing the topic, I'm getting married.” I said, showing her my finger.

She gasped, tears falling out of her eyes in joy as she cupped her mouth. She held my hand tenderly, “He proposed?!” She asked.

I nodded, forcing a smile and wiping my tears with the back of my other hand as I nodded vigorously, “Yeah, he did.” I responded.

Only if she knew the ‘He’ wasn't Tyler but the Almighty Landon Rykhard.

“And you're not invited to the wedding, mum.”I added before jerking my hand away from hers and grabbing my bag from the couch.

“Bu-” before she could finish, I went up the stairs.

I didn't and would never care of how she felt. When it was her duty to care about how her child felt without her around, she never did. She left me all alone to wine and dine with my insecurities.

When she would finally return home, she wouldn't even care carrying me from the couch where I slept off waiting for her arrival, to my room. She would only kick off her shoes in the living room and go to bed in her room, leaving me to trip on the shoes the next morning when I would head to her room to check on my dear mother who would've gone to work again and not even bother making breakfast for her child.

She would leave me with the cruel housekeeper who was a talented bully.

And then the cycle goes on….

Everyone loved memories, especially childhood ones but mine were a stark contrast to actual childhood memories.

My heart would never fail to get that painful pang whenever the memories sank in.

I'd rather lose my memories than live remembering these things my whole life.
