Chapter 6

  Jacob's POV

I saw Gabrielle running down the hill with a bag of stuff.

So I guess my girl's a cheerleader now.

"So she explained homecoming to me. There's no longer a dance or pep rally?""

"No. It got too hectic so they only let us have the game now. There was too many fights."

"She said I have to come back tomorrow."

"All of us do. We practice everyday except Sunday until the season's over.

"Seems exhausting."

"It is."

The next day we did the exact same schedule. Same classes. Same practice. Same amount of homework.

"What the hell do I do here?"

"It's easy. Just divide it by 5. You should get 41,111"

"That's a lot of numbers."

Saturday came around quickly.

"How am I supposed to do this? I keep getting bumps!"

"Sit down in front of me. I know how to do it."

She sat down on the floor.

"Hold this."

I handed her the bow.

"How is my hair supposed to be again?"

"High ponytail."

I grabbed her brush and started brushing her hair.

"What time do we have to be there?"

"6"

"What?"

"I have a hair tie in my mouth."

"Huh? You're mumbling. OW! That hurt!"

"I said "I have a hair tie in my mouth" we have to be there at 6."

She handed me her bow so I could put it in her hair.

"So what exactly do I do? Do I get to watch the game tonight?"

"Bits and pieces of it. Your back will be turned a lot."

"Are all of the girls like that annoying one?"

"Some of them. Hopefully now that you're in the picture maybe they'll leave me alone."

"What do I do if I mess up?"

"I don't know. I guess don't let it bother you. Alright your hair's up."

She stood up.

"What's that big white thing?"

"They're shoulder pads. I wear them under my jersey."

"I saw some girls wearing shirts that looked like yours. Do they do that a lot?"

"It's their boyfriend's mostly likely but I know Bebe wears her brother's sometimes. They do it on Fridays."

"That's nice. Does that mean I can wear yours?"

"If you want."

"What's that other thing next to your shoulder pads?"

"My helmet. It's to protect my head. Well most of the time. We still get concussions and whatnot sometimes."

"What's a concussion?"

"It's basically a brain injury. It's only temporary though. It happens when our heads gets hit too hard."

"If anyone hits on you can I hit them?"

"Nope. Just ignore them. They don't mean anything to me.Okay let's go. I like to get there early."

We all got in the car and my dad started to drive.

"It sucks I can't see the entire thing."

"If the games suck you guys stop. So you're able to watch then."

"Is this one gonna suck?"

"Most likely."

Once we got there my mom made us take pictures before we went down to the field.

"Ma I gotta go yell at people."

"Come on. I do this every year."

"I know."

We took our pictures then ran.

"HEY NO FAIR! YOU HAVE LONGER LEGS!"

"NOT MY FAULT!"

I started cartwheeling down the hill.

"HEY! THAT'S CHEATING!"

"NO IT'S NOT!"

"HA! I beat you! How are you not out of breath?"

"Come on. I run like every day."

"True."

"NEW GIRL! GET OVER HERE!"

"And that's my cue."

She started to jump up.

"What are you doing?"

"I want a kiss."

"Okay come here."

I bent down a little and she stood on her toes  so

I could kiss her.

"Okay bye! Good luck! It is too early to say "I love you"?"

"I don't think so."

"In that case I love you."

"I love you too."

We ran over to where we had to go.

Gabrielle's POV

"Gabrielle. Can I talk to you for a second?"

"Yeah sure. Did I mess something up?"

"Not at all! This actually is something I should talk to you about though."

"Okay? And that is?"

"I'm sorry about the other day. I should've noticed you were there before I talked."

"It's okay."

"But it's not okay. I didn't know he had a girl.I've just had this thing for him since 8th grade. I don't mean any harm. I swear."

"Marisa you're stressing over nothing. I was mad at first but I'm good now. I trust him. We're good."

"We are?"

"Definitely. I don't hate you or anything."

"Phew. Just a heads up. Almost every girl is after him."

"I know. Like I said before. I trust him. I'm not worried."

"Thanks for understanding. Please get in your stunt group. You guys know the drill. We're going through every routine. Gabrielle try to keep up. For what it's worth you two are cute together."

"Thank you."

I ran back to my stunt group. I managed to keep up. This is fun. I get to tumble a lot.

"Okay good. We're going through the halftime routine now. Flyers get ready. Remember you're starting it off.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE QUIT?!"

"WHICH KIDD QUIT?! ALEX?!"

"Oh no. Coach and Jacob are yelling at someone again."

"Do they do that a lot?"

"Basically. They both get really competitive."

We went through the halftime routine. I honestly get nervous when I go in the air.

"SMILE!"

The other team walked over to us and we both did our welcome cheers. Once we finished we went over to the bleachers then put our stuff back down.

"I swear no one better look miserable. Please just freaking smile."

We started cheering. We heard the announcer said number 87 was hurt.

"Everyone take a knee."

"What does that mean?"

"Put one knee down. Your other leg stays up. If that make any sense."

Please don't be J. Please don't be hurt. His number is 6 right?

I saw the girls from the other day again.

"Aw look the new girl is a cheerleader."

"Star go away. Let her be."

"Why should I Marisa?"

"Just do it! You don't know her enough to have an opinion on her!"

"I don't need to know her though."

"Leave me alone. Please. I've done nothing to you."

"Star we should go sit down."

"I think we're fine."

"Gabrielle switch places with Loren."

Loren and I switched spots. I was now in the back. Halftime came around quickly. We saw the other team's halftime routine. It was really good. But I think ours is better It might be because I'm on this team. Once it was our turn we ran onto the field. We got in our stunt groups and me and the other flyers went up in the air. We all grabbed our leg. The music started playing then we started.

"Ready? 3"

"2"

"1"

I was thrown in the air and did a flip. I don't know how I didn't fall. I landed in my stunt group's arms. I mostly did cartwheels,back hand springs,and ariels. This is extremely fun. I looked over at one point and saw Jacob smiling. When we were done we were all out of breath. Then we ran back to our spots. I was so excited I kept tumbling.

"Woah. Take it easy there Blue."

"Sorry! I just haven't been this excited in years!"

I cartwheeled back to the bleachers. I'm shocked I didn't crash into them.

"Get water."

All of us drank some water then went back to cheering.

"You guys know the drill. We're not doing well. You can watch the rest of the game. There's only 2 quarters left. We'll go back over so they can say everyone's names."

I went to sit down in front of Jacob's family.

"That was awesome!"

"Thank you."

"How did you not fall?"

"I have no idea."
