Chapter 3
I learned about Santiago's childhood friend from his mother.
Every time Santiago's mother mentioned her, her face was full of disdain.
"Serenity is our adopted daughter. We kindly took her in from the orphanage and provided her with a good life. Who knew she would be so ungrateful, trying to climb into Santiago's bed and have a relationship with him at such a young age."
"If I hadn't discovered it in time, who knows what kind of trouble she would have caused?"
Santiago's mother took a deep breath.
"We didn't expect anything from her in return, but she shouldn’t have coveted what wasn't hers. The position of the Flores family's young mistress is not something she can attain."
Later, without another word, Santiago's mother sent her abroad.
Unfortunately, by that time, Santiago had already developed feelings for her after spending so much time together. When he found out about this, he fell into despair, drowning his sorrows and ignoring the company's affairs.
It wasn't until he met me that he began to change gradually.
When Santiago's mother placed the Flores family heirloom bracelet on my wrist, she spoke to me earnestly,
"Evelyn, I must thank you. You saved Santiago as well as the Flores family."
At that time, I believed it was as simple as that.
But everything changed drastically the day Serenity returned home a month later.
