Chapter 6
CHAPTER SIX
HAZEL
“This is your room, do you need anything, ma'am?” The lady that led me in asked.
I shook my head sideways while still trying to take in the environment. Then I turned to look at her with a sad smile “I don't need anything, thank you.”
She bowed slightly before exiting the room. I took in my surroundings. The room was so spacious that it could fit the living room at Lucian's house. It has a queen sized bed in the middle, a big lamp on the bedstand, the dressing table was aligned with different types of make up. I walked to the center of the room relishing on how soft the fluffy center rug felt under my barefoot.
Then I walked to the walk-in closet. There were few clothes inside, mostly t-shirts and jeans. Well, I don't have to bother about clothes then since I had none with me. As I walked out, my eyes caught my reflection in the mirror, I looked miserable. I decided to go take a shower.
A gasp escaped my lips as I walked into the bathroom. I had no idea bathroom can be this beautiful. The rich sure knows how to waste their money.
I took a quick shower and stepped out of the bathroom. I threw on the white gown I had come in. I didn't want to wear anything in the closet because I didn't know who it belonged to. Then, packed my hair into a messy bun
I didn't know what to do when I finished dressing. Back at Lucian's house, I never had any free time. It was always one work after the othe or Aurora causing trouble. I didn't have a cell phone or I would have surf through the internet, Lucian took it away from me after my mother died. I walked to the window seat and stared out of the window. My room was above a garden so I was able to get a full view of the garden.
I admired the garden for so long and soon got lost in thoughts.
‘What does the rogue king want with me?’
‘Is my life here going to be any different than it was at Lucian's house?’
Several thoughts ran through my mind. They soon came to an abrupt halt when I heard a knock on the door.
I was startled for the fraction of a second. I wasn't used to people knocking before entering my personal space. Lucian and Aurora have a bad habit of barging in. I sighed before walking to the door. A lady was standing at the door in a maid attire.
“Her Highness, Melissa, requested your presence at dinner.” The lady said with her head hung low.
Melissa, the lady who told Darius she was pregnant a few hours ago. I could have sworn her eyes shone with instant hatred for me a while ago. So why would she invite me to dinner?
“Okay. Lead the way please.” I said to the lady.
We walked down the hallway and descended the stairs before getting to the dinning hall. The table was filled with varieties of foods that can satisfy twenty people even though they're only two people at the table. Melissa was sitting at the table when I got there. She threw me a glance when she saw me, her eyes showing a hint of disgust which she quickly masked with a fake smile.
“Hazel, come sit.” She said, motioning to the seat opposite her.
I hung my head low and chewed on my bottom lip as I walked towards her. I took a seat directly opposite her.
“Thank you for inviting me.” I said in an almost whisper.
“Of course, it's what his Majesty would have wanted for his mate.” She said, her tone holding a hint of sarcasm.
I clasped and unclasped my hands under the table nervously. The clacking of utensils filled the air. This is so much more uncomfortable than being in Lucian and Aurora's company.
I would throw occasional glances at Melissa. She was the perfect definition of elegance and gracefulness. I suddenly feel inferior next to her.
“Darius and I are getting married by the next blood moon festival.” Melissa interrupted the tensed silence.
“Congratulations.” I said gently.
“Which is why I think you and I should have a conversation, you know, woman to woman.” She dropped her fork and focused on me. I lowered my gaze even more as she stared daggers at me.
“I think you should know that Darius is in love with me, I'm his fiance and the woman that is currently pregnant with his child. I've been betrothed to him since birth. Everyone in this pack knows me as their Luna. You're just a mate he happens to come across at an auction and is compelled to take.” She explained, with a sly grin spread across her lips.
I didn't get what she was hinting at but I kept quiet and listened.
“You should know that you are a nobody who he just wants to use to fulfill his sexual desires. A whore, that's what you are. Don't try to win him over because at the end of the day, he belongs to me. So don't get your hopes up just because you're his ‘mate’. And I suggest you know your place.” She added.
Tears stung at the corner of my eyes as she spilled those words out. ‘A whore, a nobody’. I blinked to stop the tears from flowing.
“I assure you we would be good friends if you learn to behave. I trust you'd keep this conversation between us, yeah?” She asked.
I stared at her and forced a smile between the tears.
“Yes.” I replied, my voice croaked.
“That's good, enjoy your dinner.” She flashed me a fake smile.
“Actually, I'd like to go back to my room.” I said as politely as I could.
“Emily will escort you.” Melissa said and motioned at the maid standing behind her. She bowed slightly before leading me out of the dining hall.
As we walked out of the dining hall, I turned to the maid and said,
“Don't worry, I'll find my way.”
I ran off before she could reply. I sprinted to my room and threw myself on the bed as soon as I entered. I buried my face in a pillow and cried my eyes out.
