Chapter 6: She on my mind

"It is a beautiful necessity of our nature to love something." - Douglas Jerrold

-

Leonardo Le Roux.

"Uncle Johan ?" I softly knocked, i dared to disturb the old man who sat in his study.

"Yes, Leo. I presume you are here to apologize about your behavior the other day ?" He muttered in a nonchalant tone as he removed his reading spectacles.

"Uh no, if you know me very well you would know... that would be unlikely to happen." I replied walking in and closing the door behind me.

"Did I tell you to come in ?" He rudely asked and I laughed.

"I don't need your permission, stop being uptight. I'm your nephew for goodness sake not a stranger." I inwardly laughed at his cold face. This man was cold and I often wondered if he was always like that. What made him happy ?

"Oh." He muttered putting his reading glasses back on. I made myself comfortable on the sofa that was near the balcony. This was a beautiful study indeed and the view was breathtaking.

Picking out a dusty book from a his shelf, i sat back down. "Do you miss home ?" I asked him and he seemed taken back.

"I have no business in Netherlands and don't ask me such nonsense." He said rudely.

"Oh, so you prefer being here alone ?" I pressed, as a lawyer I always knew how to break the ice in each and every cold person.

"I am not alone." He chuckled lightly before it eventually died out.

"You are not alone ?" I asked again.

"What nonsense you speak child." He looked at his papers, avoiding my question.

"What fun thing do you do anyways ?" I questioned.

"I like to go to Capetown to check on my Vineyard and I also like go wine tasting and-" I cut him off.

"Who do you go with ?" I asked making myself comfortable on the sofa by putting both my legs on each end. Browsing through the old book waiting for his response, this book was about World War, i had enough of that in high school.

"I go alone ofcause." He replied trying to convince himself that it was okay but I know it wasn't, we both know it isn't.

"Alone." I repeated.

"Leo you are annoying." He rambled.

"I'm not. I just want to know what my uncle gets up to out here ?" I chucked as he gave me an annoyed look.

"You never write to me so do not act like you worry about me !"

"Write to you, Uncle Johan ? This is not the 1920's, It's 1987 I'm sure you have a telephone." laughter erupted from my lips.

"Well that's nonsense. Writing is much more civilized."

"What do you know about being civilized when you live in a country where you treat human beings like animals because of their skin colour." I sarcastically rolled my eyes in disbelief.

"Leonardo, you are such an annoying faggot. This is why i do not have kids." He grumbled.

"You don't ?" I pressed onto the issue he had brought upon himself.

"Are you deaf ?" He rudely added but It didn't affect me because you get used to his arsehole attitude.

"Actually I think I am, i have been meaning to get my ears checked-" He cut me off by grumbling.

"You are unbearable Leo." He shook his head and I think I noticed a small meander at the corner of his lips...Was that a smile ?

"I know, i am but you do love me." I added.

"I do not." He denied.

"Well I'm hurt, Uncle Johan." I pretended to be heartbroken by placing my right hand on my chest. "Not really though." I dropped my hand. "Because you don't love anything except wait what do you love ?"

"I don't know how your father has managed to raise a broken record for all these years ?" He looked at me fondly.

"You don't answer a question with a question." I added.

"Fine." He abruptly stood up and walked towards where I was seated.

"I once loved someone her name was Éliane Vaugrenard, she was French and had the most mesmerising sea blue eyes..." He paused as if stuck in nostalgia "Uh Èliane." He smiled briefly and that was the first time I had ever seen him genuinely smile. "Leo my seun, that's a story for another day." He snapped back to his cold self.

"If you may leave so I can get back to work." He sadly returned behind his mahogany desk.

"I feel so appreciated right now." I sarcastically added as I threw the book on his desk it fell with a thud but I didn't care.

"Go tell Thembi to prepare lunch for one person, i won't be joining you today and your father won't be back until the following week."

"Oh right. He told me about going to buy land in some place called Elizabeth. I refused to go..." I added.

"It's Port Elizabeth, Leo. Do not be so ignorant." He mumbled.

"And where are you going ?" I questioned.

"I have errands to run." He picked up some papers and pushed me out of the study.

"Okay fine, I'm leaving." I raised my hands in a defensive manor.

"I must warn you, Thembi isn't the greatest of cooks. Felo is actually the one who cooks well-" He spoke with no emotion on his face.

"So where is she ?" I asked with eagerness. This girl sparked a flame inside my soul. I wanted to speak to her, like when we first met. She was different, there was something about her that I had not quite understood. The way she smiled made me want to smile even though I only saw her smile once in my room when I was shirtless. She makes me laugh, she is amusing. Above all she is beautiful with those big brown orbs and the way she flutters her long eye lashes. Beneath that hideous dress, Goodness gracious that dress is so hideous...such a pain to the eyes...beneath that hideous dress is a beautiful body, i noticed how her curves refuse to hide under that hideous dress. When she moves you can see every meander from waist and back. Her lips so full and plump...

"Leo are you even listening ?" Uncle Johan snapped me out of my thoughts.

"Yes yes." I blinked only noticing we were now out on the garden near the pool.

"I said Felo has every weekend off." He muttered waving at Aldo who I had first been acquainted to when he picked us up at the airport.

"Oh." I didn't understand why I sounded disappointed, i had only talked to this girl once and here I am thinking about her. It's lust ! definitely lust. I love Grace oh that reminds I haven't spoken to her in a while. I just got so distracted.

"Awe Leo." Aldo greeted me and my uncle gave a disapproving look.

"Aweee Aldo." I said with my Dutch accent which sounded horrible.

"Why are you on first name basis ? Aldo I do not ever want to hear you calling my nephew by name. Do we understand each other ?" My uncle yelled.

"I told him to call me that. I can not stand being called in a formal manor." I defended the Aldo.

"Maybe in Amsterdam but not in my house." He warned. "So you will have to 'Stand' it."

"I'm leaving, behave yourself while I'm out and Aldo don't forget to send those papers to the Van Rooyens in Linmeyer."

"Ja Mnr." Aldo replied with a solemn look.

"Behave." My uncle gave me one last glare before getting in the back seat of his old blue shiny mercedes-Benz.

I walked back into the house with only one thought in my head. When is Monday ?
