You can't force me
I tried to stop the fast beating of my heart, for fear he might hear them.
“Who's there?” He called out once more, but I didn't say a word. I only prayed his attention will be diverted somewhere else.
I can't let the sexy piece of human, catch me.
“Who's—”
“My king!”
I heard someone call out to him.
“What's it?” His growl was unmistakable.
“There's an emergency in the palace. The other kings await your presence.”
“Is there anything wrong?” His voice was so cool, it made me ache to hear more of it.
Gods.
I've not met someone with a voice that makes me want to do unimaginable things.
Shit!
What am I even thinking about?
“I think so, my king. They—”
“I will be there.” The werewolf said before he left.
The sounds of his footsteps, as he left, were what I heard.
I didn't immediately leave, I stood there until I was certain the wolf king was long gone before I left.
“What just happened?” I frowned.
It was so unlike me.
I've never been attracted to females, but I sure as hell have never had feelings for another male.
Then, why am I attracted to another man, not to mention, the king?
No, this can't be possible.
“I think I must be feeling sick.”
Yes, that's the only explanation for why I felt that way.
There is no way I could have thought the king was handsome.
Yes!
That's it, he's not handsome. It was—
Why is my heart still beating loudly?
*******
“Your presence is needed in the—”
“What Are you mumbling about? Can't you see I'm in my duty post?” I frowned at the dragon guard, whom I'd never seen before.
Before he came here, I was close to—
Wait a minute, what was I close to doing?
I don't think I can recall exactly that.
But I think it was important.
“The wolf king asked—”
My heart skipped a beat.
“What? The wolf king? Did he tell you what I did? Is there—"
“It's a rite for the guards to meet the kings. They need to know who is guarding them. You—”
“I'm not in the mood to do just that.” I turned my back to him, “go and tell….wait, why is the wolf king the only one who wants to see me? I thought you said the other kings—”
“They are busy.”
“Then, I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to stay here until the other kings return.”
This way, I will get to slip out of whatever it is that the king intends to do to me.
There is no telling—
“This is an order from the king, and you must obey.” The guard said in a tone that calls for submission.
“And if I don't?” I challenged with my eyes.
There was no way I was going to answer the call from the king.
I just survived an afternoon of having my heart skip beats whenever I remember the intense expression on his face and his voice that makes me weak in the legs.
No, going to the prince is certainly bad news.
I won't do that.
“I'm afraid you might not like the punishment,” the dragon said once more, with his hands folded.
“What is it?” I furrowed my brows at him. “Will he skin me alive?”
The worst he can do is make me act like a fool by talking.
All the king need is to speak, and my knees will grow weak.
“No, it's something much worse than that.”
“Then...... I'm not afraid. The kings can go to hell, I'm not afraid of them!” I folded my arms and stared hard at the dragon guard.
My words didn't register to me until I noticed the odd stare from the guard.
“You said the king can?”
“What? I never said anything like that. What I meant is this, you should tell the king I'm busy doing my duty as the guard. I can't leave my duty post just like that.”
As I spoke, I took a step back from the guard.
The guard didn't say a word as he watched me.
He didn't try to stop me from taking a step back, and that was good for me.
I need to escape from this before he forces me to visit the king when I know I can't stand it.
The king's voice is like a weapon. It attacks in full force and makes you a slave to his whims.
“I promise to make out time to meet the kings when I'm opportune to do so. Right now, I—”
The words froze in my throat when I felt the wall behind me.
Hmm.
When did I reach the wall?
I thought it was far ahead.
Well, it's good this way. I can just leave the guard here, and find a way—
“What did you say just now, vampire?” The guard smirked.
His expression caused me to frown.
What is it that caused such a change of expression in him?
“I'm not going anywhere now. I can't abandon my duty post.”
“And what did you say earlier? You said something about not going even if you were forced, right?” He grinned.
Hmm.
When did I say that?
Did I say something like that?
Why can't I recall?
Yet, I claimed it.
Since he said it's what I said, then, I think it's truly what I said.
“Yes! I'm not going there tonight, even if you force me! I need to check on something, goodnight!”
I turned, intending to run through the corner, and away from him.
However, I was met with the stern expression on a wolf's face.
“What did you say?” The wolf, whom I thought was a wall, growled at me.
“I'm not going anywhere even if I'm forced!”
Despite my fear, I was ready to challenge him.
I won't back down without a fight!
“Wait, what are you doing?!” I shouted at the top of my lungs when the werewolf scooped me up as if I weighed nothing.
