A shiver worthy voice

We were divided into different groups. Grog and the others were posted in the Eastern part of the Palace, while I was the only one place in the Western part palace.

“Why am I the only one placed in the Western part?” I furrow my eyebrows at the dragon.

“We only needed one person for the post.” The dragon furrowed his brows at me. “what's wrong with you?”

“Why will I be the one chosen for that?” I frown at him. “If you want to give the post, give it to another. I'm going with my brother.” I pointed at Grog, who was looking at me as if I have two heads.

“Your posts have been predetermined. You can't ask to change it—”

“And I'm telling you I want you to change my post! I'm going with my brother, and that's final!”

“Palt!” Grog gasped.

“Listen, vampire. Your post has been determined. You are not entitled to choose—”

“Then—”

“Palt,” Grog called out in a warning tone, with his eyes narrowed to show me how displeased he was with me.

“Don't palt me, Grog. I'm only telling him I don't want to serve in the Western part.

Why am I the only one going there? What of the others? Can't he select any of them to go there?”

The dragon frowned at me as he clapped.

Instantly, it felt like a a breeze from nowhere, blew and carried me up from the floor.

“What's happening? Let me down!” I screamed, but instead of stopping, the breeze hauled me far from the others.

“Palt!” Grog called out to me.

However, the further I went, the fainter his calls became.

And before I knew what was happening, I was thrown into a room.

“Ouch!” I cried out in pain as I stood from the floor and dusted my pants. “Is this the right way to treat a guard!” I shouted at no one in particular as I fumed in exasperation.

Undoubtedly, my face must be clouded in nothing but anger, with my eyes narrowed at the door.

Yet, I know there was nothing I can do aside from cutting their ears off with my words as I plan my escape.

*********

“So, these are the things you are expected to do, vampire. Any questions?” The fairy in charge of the guards in the Western wing asked.

“Where is my brother? Can I see him?”

So far, I've not been productive in pinpointing where exactly the secret exit was.

But I'm not to be deterred.

When I make my mind up on something, I do what I want.

“I'm afraid I can't answer this, vampire. I—”

“Can you quit calling me a vampire?” I narrow my eyes at him. “I have a name, just like you do. It won't kill you to call me by my name.”

“I'm afraid that's not the way things are done there.” He joined his hands together, “if there are no questions, vampire, I will take my leave.”

“But—”

Before I could say the first word, he was already halfway across the halls.

“Figures.” I sat down on the only bench in the hall and crossed my legs.

Being in the western wing has its advantage, and that's to laze around. There is nothing for me to do here other than to sit or walk around as I please.

As the special chambers of the kings, they don't need too many guards here. That's why it's only a guard. And that guard happened to be me.

I relaxed on the bench as I tried to think about my next plan of action.

Last night, I tried to locate the exit from this wing; however, I only went far before I heard the sounds of the kings. And I had to run back, to prevent them from sniffing me out.

Gosh!

The plan was easier to make. However, executing it seemed much more difficult.

“Why are the flowers withering?”

The sound of the voice jolted me awake.

My heart skipped a bit at the low rumble of the voice. It was like a caress to my skin. And I found myself eagerly waiting to hear the voice once more.

“I don't know, sir. It was good yesterday—”

“What do you mean, you don't know?” The same voice spoke up. However, unlike how soothing it was when he spoke at first, there was an underlay of irritation

“I don't know—”

“How can something which was normal yesterday turn this way today?”

Despite the fury in his tone, I ached to hear more.

And before I knew what was happening, I was already halfway across the halls, and closer to the garden at the end of the adjacent halls.

I leaned on one of the paintings as I patiently wait for the sound of his voice.

“I'm sorry, my king. I will look into the matter!” The person, the man with the handsome voice, was with sounded scared.

“You better do that!” his voice rumbled. “I want this flower to return to its normal state by tomorrow, understood?”

“Yes, sir!”

The scurrying of feet was the only thing I heard after that.

Has he gone already?

I walked a bit, and peeped, with my body covered by the wall.

Gods!

My heart skipped a bit at the sight of the man in front of me.

It felt as if my heart was about to leap out of my chest.

Gods.

I palmed my chest as I leaned on the picture by the wall, to calm my breath.

The werewolf king is just as the rumour said he was.

Those icy eyes and killer jaw.

And not to get me started on those palms.

Gods.

The hands can wrap around — “Who's there?”

My heart skipped more beats at the question of which I perceive was directed at me.

“Who's there?”

The sounds of approaching footsteps made me know he was coming closer.

Gods.

What should I do?
