Chapter 2 Successful In Vitro Fertilization

"We have an array of excellent donors here—athletes, professors, actors, doctors... You can rest assured to make your choice," Alisa suddenly lowered her voice. "Let me tell you a secret; even the billionaire, Aldrich Barrett, the highly respected CEO of Barrett Group, recently provided a sample to the hospital."

"Aldrich Barrett?" Maggie's voice trembled as she spoke. She recognized that name. Since she had chosen in vitro fertilization, she naturally had the right to select an outstanding genetic match for her child.

"Yes, it's an opportunity. You can come in tomorrow for a genetic test to see if you're compatible." Alisa said cautiously.

"Let me think about it," Maggie's voice was almost a whisper.

Perhaps she was too physically and emotionally drained. Maggie couldn't take it anymore. After ending the call, she drifted off to sleep.

Maggie forced herself to sit up and quickly prepared to go to the hospital where Alisa worked.

As Maggie stepped out of the car, she wearily walked along the bustling streets. Her shoulders slumped, her gaze vacant, devoid of hope. Every step she took felt heavy, as if she was burdened with the mess left behind by the cheating couple. Anger and determination had gradually turned into overwhelming despair.

While walking, her mind repeatedly conjured up the image of Max and Linda lying naked in bed. That scene was imprinted in her mind, betrayal and sadness intertwined, gnawing at her heart.

Finally, Maggie arrived at the state-of-the-art fertility hospital where her sister Alisa worked. The magnificent glass facade of the building glistened in the afternoon sun, a stark contrast to the chaos brewing inside Maggie's mind.

Just then, a thunderous roar snapped Maggie out of her reverie. A massive truck was hurtling towards her, its horn piercing the air. The truck was mere inches from Maggie's trembling figure, and panic paralyzed her, leaving her unable to react.

Maggie's pupils dilated, and the truck barreled into her. She was sent flying five meters away. Excruciating pain coursed through her, while the truck was reduced to rubble in an instant.

Maggie wondered if her short and tumultuous life would come to an end in that moment. Everything revolved around her, and she was lifted into the air. It seemed that this was what flying felt like, she thought, but the sensation of pain brought her back to reality.

Maggie slowly opened her eyes, surrounded by greenery. Was this a forest? She lifted her head slightly, only inches away from a sharply chiseled face, like a lifelike Greek sculpture. Her waist, however, was firmly held by a pair of unyielding hands.

Did this man save her?

His speed was as fast as lightning, and his destructive power was astounding!

When Maggie's eyes locked onto the man, his sharp eyes locked onto her. The man exuded an aura of authority, seemingly mingling with the air around him. His well-defined features conveyed concern, and his voice, amidst the chaos, was like a soothing balm.

Maggie's vision blurred, and she tried to get one more look at the man who was furrowing his brows and crouching down.

His gaze was fixed on Maggie's waist, where she was bleeding. He pressed his lips to Maggie's ear and rasped, "I will help it heal, despite the deep wound."

Maggie, weakly, closed her eyes. Her voice was barely a whisper. "Th-thank you..." Her heart raced, and she felt a tingling warmth spreading across her waist as the pain gradually subsided.

The man leaned in, hearing her rapid heartbeat. His tongue gently licked the wound. Slowly, it traveled across her waist, stopping just below her breast. He inhaled her intoxicating scent, felt the texture of her skin, and tasted the sweetness of her blood. Alpha saliva had healing properties. He knew she would recover quickly. Seeing this woman had awakened something within him, and he longed to feel her smooth skin against his lips...

When Maggie woke up again, she found herself leaning against a tree near the hospital. She watched a tall figure get into a luxury car, which slowly entered the hospital.

Maggie stood there in shock for a while, still trying to recover from her amazement. She touched her waist and found that the wound had reduced to a shallow scar. Her heart still pounded in her chest. She decided to seek comfort from her sister. She walked through the sterile corridor to Alisa's office.

Alisa was a compassionate and dedicated doctor. When she saw Maggie's tear-stained face, she lifted her head from her paperwork, her eyes widening in shock. Her genuine concern left deep wrinkles on her forehead as she rushed to Maggie's side, gently taking her trembling hand, offering comfort and support.

"Maggie, what happened?" Alisa said, her voice filled with sincere care.

Struggling to speak through sobs, Maggie managed to get out disjointed words. "I... I was hit by a car at the hospital entrance."

Alisa's eyes widened, and she stood up, inspecting Maggie from head to toe. "Are you okay? Were you hurt?"

Maggie shook her head. "I thought I was a goner, but someone saved me."

Alisa breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good. You can't afford any more accidents now."

Maggie nodded. "Yes, I came here today for my child."

Alisa smiled, her face showing a comforting and hopeful expression. "Of course, Maggie. I'll do my best to help you."

With newfound determination, Maggie and Alisa walked hand in hand towards the operating room. Their footsteps echoed in the sterile hallway.

Under Alisa's careful arrangements, Maggie quickly completed a series of genetic tests on various sperm samples. Luckily, everything went smoothly. Maggie's genes surprisingly matched all the sperm samples, including Aldrich Barrett's. The news was immediately relayed to the assistant director. Now, she was ready for the next step: artificial insemination.

"Are you sure you want to choose this basketball player, No. 4783?" Alisa inquired.

Maggie looked at the sperm sample file and smiled. "He looks strong, doesn't he? I want my child to be just like that."

Alisa took Maggie's file with a smile and went to the lab to retrieve the sperm sample. Unbeknownst to them, there was a lurking figure outside the office, eavesdropping on their conversation. The person had a determined expression and then headed towards the hospital director's office.

At the same time, Alisa couldn't shake a sense of unease, as if something unexpected was about to happen. However, as a doctor, she had to remain composed and quickly pushed aside those emotions.

Maggie lay on the operating table, her gaze fixed on the pristine ceiling above. Her lifelong dream of having her own child was about to come true, and it seemed almost too good to be true.

Alisa examined the sperm sample numbers on the file and discovered that the sample for No. 4783 was missing. "What's going on?" She double-checked and noticed that the number for sample No. 4782 seemed to have been altered, and upon closer inspection, it appeared to have been changed from No. 4783.

"Whoever carelessly labeled this as 3 did a sloppy job. This should be No. 4783," Alisa quickly retrieved the correct sample and returned to the operating room.

Inside the operating room, Maggie suddenly overheard a conversation between Alisa and the surgeon.

"The supply department sent the wrong sperm sample earlier. They had to go back and retrieve the correct one."

"The supply department has always been meticulous. How could they make such a mistake?"

"Who knows?"

Maggie's anxiety increased. Fortunately, she didn't have to wait long as they quickly obtained the new sperm sample. The surgery began promptly and progressed smoothly.
