Chapter 5 One More Big Gift for You!
Melvin strode into the hall, heading straight towards Charlotte to help her up.
With a pained expression in his eyes, he looked at Lyra with disappointment. "I thought you would show some restraint after the divorce, but I didn't expect you to still be so despicable. It disgusts me. I had plans to transfer this villa to your name, but it seems unnecessary now."
"Melvin, don't blame Lyra. It's my fault for provoking her, which led to her pushing me. It's all my fault. You can scold me," Charlotte said, weakly leaning against his embrace, her face filled with self-blame. Her voice trembled, sounding pitiful and aggrieved. When she glanced at Lyra, a hint of triumphant satisfaction flickered in her eyes.
Melvin's face turned cold as he ordered Lyra, "Apologize to Lottie right now, immediately."
"Hmm, he wants her to apologize?" thought Lyra.
Lyra felt a surge of anger.
She glanced between the lovebirds, her smile turning gentle as she tenderly reached out to Charlotte, who was in Melvin's arms.
Charlotte anticipated anger, an argument, but she was taken aback when she saw Lyra still smiling.
Charlotte looked puzzled, not understanding what Lyra was up to, and for a moment, she forgot to resist, allowing Lyra to pull her closer.
Smack!
"Ah!"
A scream louder than before pierced the air as Charlotte covered her swollen face and fell to the ground.
Lyra had exerted all her strength for that slap, and even her own palm felt slightly numb. The pain was evident to Charlotte.
Lyra's face still bore a smile, surprisingly calm, not resembling the initiator of the violence.
She looked down at Charlotte on the ground, her voice gentle. "Since you accused me of bullying you, how could I prove my wickedness without actually slapping you?"
With tears welling in her eyes, Charlotte sat on the ground, whimpering softly.
Melvin didn't expect Lyra to physically harm Charlotte in front of him. In that moment, he even forgot to pull Charlotte away.
His face turned stern as he stared at Lyra, his voice threatening. "Instead of apologizing, you're becoming worse! Are you testing my limits?!"
"You're overthinking, Mr. Freeman."
Lyra waved her hand dismissively, her smile growing brighter.
"We were once husband and wife. Before I leave, let me give you one last gift!"
As she spoke, she took out a thick stack of photocopies from her bag and threw them at Melvin's face.
The white papers fluttered in the air.
Melvin casually caught one and saw that they were records of text messages, filled with mocking and insulting words, written in an incredibly arrogant tone. He silently read through the messages from an anonymous sender and was shocked.
Flipping through the pages, he found evidence of being drugged the night before, concrete proof pointing to one person: Charlotte.
Melvin furrowed his brows deeply, his gaze filled with terror as he looked at Charlotte on the ground.
Just as Charlotte finished reading the contents of the paper, her face turned pale.
She had indeed arranged for someone to spike Melvin's drink, and she had even called him, asking him to meet her at the hotel. She never expected the driver to mistakenly bring her back to the villa, inadvertently benefiting Lyra instead!
Furious, she had initially planned to send a few cutting messages to Lyra.
Who would have thought Lyra would dare to confront her like this!
How would Melvin view her now...
Before she could say anything, Lyra had picked up her packed suitcase and cast one last glance at the man she had once loved before departing.
"Remember, Melvin, I'm not the one who was dumped. You are! I don't want you anymore, and your Freeman family doesn't deserve me!"
