Chapter 4 Two-faced

Fiona stood dumbfounded, taken aback by the commanding presence before her.

Was she really her timid and subservient daughter-in-law?

"Oh, I see. So you've been putting on an act all this time!"

The more Fiona pondered it, the angrier she grew. Grinding her teeth, she threatened, "This incident won't end here. I'll inform Melvin and make him divorce you! Even if you beg on your knees, I'll kick you out of the Freeman Manor!"

Lyra sneered, displaying no interest on her face.

"Oh, I forgot to mention, just ten minutes ago, Melvin and I finalized our divorce. Even if you beg on your knees, I won't set foot in the Freeman Manor ever again."

Divorced? Just now?

How was that possible? This country girl was so desperate to stay in the Freeman family before, and now she was suddenly willing to leave?

Fiona skeptically watched as Lyra walked away, immediately calling Melvin to verify the situation.

"Son, is it true that you two got divorced?"

Melvin confirmed with a sound, furrowing his brows suddenly. "Who told you? We just finished the paperwork."

"Who else? I bumped into Lyra on the way, and that wretched woman was shouting at me just now!"

Anger flickered on Fiona's face, but then she realized they were genuinely divorced and burst into laughter. "But it's fantastic! You two finally got divorced. How can that orphanage pick-up trash deserve my outstanding son? She should have been kicked out long ago..."

Melvin pursed his lips, his mood contrasting entirely with Fiona's excitement.

In fact... there was a hint of unexplainable annoyance and guilt.

Before this, he had assumed Lyra wouldn't easily agree to a divorce. He had prepared three million dollars in compensation and a villa, but instead, she initiated it and didn't ask for a single cent.

Now that they were divorced, she had no money and no family. How would she survive in the future?

Well, when she became desperate, she'll come crawling back to him.

...

Lyra hailed a taxi and headed back to the small villa she shared with Melvin, a place that had witnessed three years of bitterness.

The memories weighed heavily on her, and she didn't want to dwell on them any longer.

Passing through the small garden in front of the courtyard, she ascended the stairs straight to her room to pack her belongings. Once she was done, she didn't want to spend another second in this villa.

However, just as she descended to the first floor, she turned back, catching sight of a graceful figure in the hallway.

It was Charlotte, dressed in a white dress, with a gentle smile. "Lyra, it's been a while."

Lyra was slightly taken aback, not expecting to see Charlotte here.

They had just divorced, and Melvin had given Charlotte the key to the villa. Was he already planning for her to move in?

It seemed like he was genuinely doting on his first love.

A shiver ran down Lyra's spine, but she maintained a graceful smile as she descended the stairs.

Charlotte regarded her with equal elegance, her expression momentarily freezing before she smiled again. "Lyra, it's been a few years, and you're becoming more and more like Mrs. Freeman."

"Oh, my mistake." Charlotte covered her mouth, awkwardly laughing. "I forgot you're divorced from Melvin. You're no longer Mrs. Freeman."

Knowing that Charlotte was here to assert herself, Lyra didn't get angry; instead, she smiled confidently.

"Melvin was a man I grew tired of playing with. But since you enjoy leftovers so much, I'll let you have him. Just don't get too carried away, or you'll end up looking like the other woman."

Charlotte's smile quickly faded at those words, replaced by growing fierceness.

"I love Melvin deeply, and if it weren't for you, we would have been together long ago. You're the one who deserves to be scorned as the other woman!"

Lyra glanced sarcastically at her. "Who the real other woman is will become evident soon enough."

With that said, she had no intention of lingering. She bypassed Charlotte, ready to leave, but her wrist was suddenly grabbed.

She turned around and saw Charlotte looking pitiful, her eyes reddened as if deeply wronged.

"Lyra, I'm sorry. I always considered you a good friend, almost like my own sister. I just wanted to see you this time. I meant well. I didn't know you two were divorced. I really didn't have any ulterior motive. Can you please not be mad at me?"

"Oh, another act of duplicity?"

Lyra sneered and was about to shake off Charlotte's hand when Charlotte suddenly mimicked Lyra's motion, weakly falling to the ground, emitting a pained scream.

From a distance, it appeared as if Lyra had forcefully pushed Charlotte.

Heh, how interesting.

Lyra coldly observed this self-directed performance. If she guessed correctly, Melvin must have arrived by now, probably standing at the door, watching.

Sure enough, a furious voice erupted behind her. "What do you think you're doing!"
