Chapter 23 A Devil or An Imp?

Her background must be more complicated than it seems.

Just as he was thinking, Fred arrived at the scene in a taxi. He looked around and saw people lying unconscious on the ground. He let out a sigh of relief.

Boss really went all out this time!

Melvin glanced at him. "You came just in time. Take these people back with you and investigate who's behind all this."

"Alright," Fred nodded.

"And send someone to investigate Lyra's background. I want detailed information."

"Yes, boss."

...

By the time Lyra returned to the villa, it was already late in the evening.

Keith was sitting on the couch, waiting for her.

She told him everything that happened tonight in great detail. Keith was furious and immediately sent people to investigate.

On the way back, Lyra carefully thought about the matter. Other than the person from the Lloyd family who set her up, she hadn't had any conflicts with anyone else. But if that person already knew her whereabouts, it was unlikely that they would only send a few lackeys to rape her and make a video. This seemed more like the style of the Freeman group. She didn't believe that Melvin would remain impartial after finding out. She needed Keith's people to investigate.

Lyra took a shower and went to sleep after going upstairs.

The next morning...

She arrived at the company on time. After familiarizing herself with the information yesterday, she could now start handling the arrangements for the artist's activities.

Stacy was surprised by how quickly she got the hang of things and didn't dare to make things difficult for her anymore.

The morning went smoothly, and Lyra stretched lazily, feeling particularly content.

However, just after lunch, someone forcefully barged into the office.

Stacy came in with an angry expression on her face.

Lyra frowned, "Miss Kim, don't you know how to knock before entering?"

Stacy didn't answer her. Instead, she slammed an iPad in front of Lyra and said, "Take a look at what you've done!"

Lyra took the iPad and saw a photo of their artist, Cody Carver, causing a scene on the set. Luckily, the photo was intercepted by his agent, or else it would have been a scandal of her artist throwing a tantrum.

Lyra was speechless. It was just because she refused his demand of taking a day off instead of shooting, and now it had turned into such a big mess?

"He's a popular idol, and he just wanted a day off. But you had to treat him like that! Now, you've angered the demon. I won't clean up this mess for you!" Stacy sneered with her hands in her pockets.

Lyra closed the iPad, took her car keys, and headed out.

Stacy caught up and asked, "Where are you going?"

"To the set."

Upon hearing this, Stacy quickly followed.

The "demon" of their company was known for his temper and had various ways of tormenting people. She couldn't wait to see Lyra get humiliated by Cody. She planned to bring up this incident at the meeting and see how long Lyra could hold on to her position as the director!

Cody was filming a TV drama invested by the Angle Group. It had just started shooting, and the set was in Kellywood. Lyra and Stacy rushed there in half an hour.

As soon as they arrived at the set, they heard a loud noise of a chair being thrown.

Approaching, they saw an eighteen-year-old handsome boy raging in anger.

The agent and assistant were too scared to even breathe, while the rest of the crew kept their distance.

The only person who dared to confront him was the cleaning worker.

"What do you think you're doing, young man? Look at this mess you've made! Just because your family is wealthy doesn't mean you can go around destroying things!" she scolded.

The enraged teenager ignored her advice and grabbed a nearby vase, preparing to smash it, full of arrogance. "That's right, my family is wealthy! If I break it, I can afford to compensate. You have no say in this!"

"You can't break that!" the director exclaimed from a safe distance, feeling helpless. His heart was bleeding at the thought of the exquisite antique porcelain that he had borrowed, worth a fortune.

As Cody raised his hand, everyone's faces filled with fear.

But before he could throw the vase to the ground, someone grabbed his arm.

He turned in surprise and found Lyra staring at him with icy eyes.

"Put it down and apologize," she demanded coldly.

Cody laughed dismissively, "Who are you? Do you think I'll apologize to you?"

Stacy quickly intervened and explained, "Mr. Carver, this is Miss Carroll, the newly appointed director of our company. She denied your request for a day off. I tried to convince her, but she said you were being lazy and unproductive, so she fired you."

Upon hearing this, Cody's veins bulged on his forehead as he glared fiercely at Lyra. "So, you're the one responsible! I've been filming for two days straight, and you dare to deny my day off on your second day of work!"

Stacy saw that Cody's anger was redirected entirely at Lyra and felt a sense of satisfaction. She stepped back, eager to see how this situation would unfold.

Lyra couldn't be bothered with the insolent teenager. "I'll ask you one last time, apologize or not?"

Cody, full of rage, retorted, "I won't hit a woman, but you've asked for it this time!"

People bowed their heads, unable to bear witnessing what they thought would be Lyra's gruesome fate.

However, before the sound of a punch could be heard, the situation quickly came to an end.

Instead of Lyra's scream, they heard Cody's agonizing cries.

"Ouch, it hurts! Let go, my arm is about to dislocate!"

People turned their attention to see Cody lying face down on the ground, his hands tightly gripped by Lyra. She had twisted his arms behind his back, and in a bizarre kneeling position, she pressed her high-heeled shoe against his butt.

The sight of his pained and contorted expression was comical.

On the other hand, Lyra, with a cold expression, earned admiration from the crowd who called out, "Well done!"

Even the manager and assistant, captivated by Lyra's bold move, momentarily forgot to intervene.

Cody, humiliated by the spectacle, wished he could find a hole to hide in. His hatred for Lyra grew stronger.

"Do you know who I am? How dare you hit me! You're finished!" he exclaimed.

Stacy, with a terrified expression, stepped forward to stop Lyra. "Let go of him! This is Frayton's Mr. Carver! How dare you lay your hands on him!"

The Carver family was considered distant relatives of the Lloyd family in Suham, but they held no significant position among the city's major families. They only dared to act arrogantly in Frayton.

Lyra not only refused to let go, but she also kicked Cody's butt even harder.

Cody immediately started wailing.

Stacy, realizing that her words meant nothing to Cody, stomped her foot with a smug look on her face. "Miss Carroll, you're done! Don't blame me for not warning you!"

Lyra completely ignored Stacy, bending down to look at Cody by her feet.

"You punk, do you surrender? It's been only a few years since we last met, and you dare to climb over me and act all high and mighty."

Upon hearing her tone, Cody suddenly felt a sense of familiarity. With great effort, he turned his face from the ground and looked earnestly at Lyra's face.

Her expression went from pain to immense surprise.

"It's... Lyra?"

Lyra snorted. "You remember now?"

Cody vigorously nodded. "Lyra, I was wrong. If I had known it was you, I wouldn't have been so reckless! Please, let me go! It hurts!"

Only then did Lyra release her grip.

Cody got up from the ground, dusted off his face, and held his backside while smiling, trying to please Lyra as he gestured for her to sit in a chair.

Everyone witnessing this sudden turn of events was utterly confused.

What's going on?!

Wasn't he supposed to explode in anger? Wasn't Lyra supposed to be doomed?

Is this brown-nosing kid really the same troublemaker, Mr. Carver, from before?
