Chapter 17 So Concerned About Your Ex-Wife
"Is it Keith?"
Melvin frowned, his voice cold and stern. "Keep searching, and let Keith also send people to investigate. Notify me immediately when you find anything."
"Yes."
Fred nodded, but his face showed a hint of dissatisfaction.
Seeing him lingering, Melvin asked in confusion, "Why haven't you left? What do you want to say?"
Fred hesitated for a moment, knowing that he might anger his own boss, but couldn't hold it in.
"I'm finding it harder and harder to understand you, President. You've already divorced, yet you still care so much about your ex-wife while neglecting Miss Matthews, who truly deserves your attention. What are you thinking?"
Melvin's dark eyes narrowed, and he picked up the glass ashtray from the table, throwing it towards Fred's feet.
"Get out."
Fred wisely retreated.
Melvin lit two more cigarettes, and amidst the swirling smoke, his expression became somewhat vague.
Feeling a bit hungry, he got up and opened the refrigerator.
The fridge was stocked with all kinds of fruits and vegetables, all his favorite foods.
He stood still for a moment.
Suddenly, he vaguely remembered that for the past three years, whenever he returned home, the first thing he saw was Lyra's expectant eyes.
She would greet him with a smile, hand him his slippers, and say, "You're back, had a hard day? Are you hungry? I've prepared dinner."
But he had never looked at her directly. Faced with the hot and steamy meal on the table, he would always make a sarcastic remark and retreat to his room.
Even though it was a thankless task, that foolish woman repeated it every day without getting tired of it.
Thinking of this, he chuckled bitterly.
Tonight, for some reason, he suddenly felt like tasting that meal.
But then, Lyra's final words before leaving the banquet echoed in his ears.
"Three years of marriage, I have never betrayed you..."
If this was true, then what about Keith?
Realizing that he had been thinking about Lyra all this time, Melvin felt a strange mix of emotions. Annoyed, he closed the refrigerator, went upstairs, took a shower, and went to bed.
The next morning, in the lobby of the Angle Group headquarters, it was crowded with people.
The employees stood in rows, looking at each other, waiting for their president to arrive.
Half an hour later, Keith appeared at the entrance with Lyra.
Lyra had deliberately chosen a white fitted suit skirt for today, her ponytail high and straight, giving her an elegant, intellectual, and capable look.
As they walked in from the entrance, it was a sight that was simply pleasing to the eye.
Keith walked to the center and solemnly announced, "This is our newly appointed Director of Brokerage, Miss Carroll. We will be working together from now on."
The crowd erupted in applause.
Lyra smiled and nodded, politely acknowledging the applause.
Then, Keith briefly discussed the recent targets and let everyone return to their positions to work, leaving the brokerage team behind.
"Stacy Kim, Lyra is new here and not yet familiar with the business. Help her out."
Stacy, who was called out by Keith, was a manager. She had wavy brown hair and although her makeup was a bit flashy, she had a great figure.
She nodded repeatedly, smiling warmly, "Mr. Lloyd, rest assured, I will do my best to assist Miss Carroll."
After Keith left, she dropped the smile on her face, glanced at Lyra, and noticed a barely perceptible hint of disgust in her eyes.
It seemed that Stacy didn't welcome her!
"Miss Kim, please address me as Director in the future."
Stacy choked for a moment, immediately adopting a respectful attitude.
Throughout the morning, Lyra familiarized herself with the company's relevant information in the office, while Stacy brought stacks of documents to her desk.
Her desk was piled high with files.
Looking at the pile of documents, Lyra frowned and asked, "Isn't our department responsible for managing agents and artists? Why do we have so much information to understand?"
Stacy sneered.
"These are just basic materials. After you finish reading this pile, there's more."
She paused, her gaze mocking as she looked at Lyra. "Miss Carroll seems unfamiliar with our job, huh?"
Lyra didn't hide her nod. "Indeed, it's my first time."
Stacy's pupils shook.
After the previous director left, the position was up for grabs, and she was the most likely candidate for promotion. But the company suddenly parachuted in this useless figurehead, taking her position and causing her to be mocked by other employees behind her back.
How could she swallow this humiliation?
When she looked at Lyra's delicate face again, her eyes were filled with jealousy and unwillingness.
"Someone like you, with no experience or qualifications, how did you manage to get into Angle Group? Did you sleep with someone to worm your way in?"
