Chapter 2

He grabbed Lena's ankles, pulling her into the pool.

As Lena screamed, he lifted her up and pressed her against the pool wall, kissing her passionately.

The crowd around them cheered again.

Some popped champagne, others set off fireworks.

Some even joked about me.

"Jaxon, you're marrying Evelyn the day after tomorrow, and yet you’re kissing her best friend today. That’s not right, is it?"

"Hahaha, as long as you don’t tell her, even if Jaxon sleeps with Lena today, Evelyn won’t know."

"The Jaxon I know is back! You were so humble chasing Evelyn before, acting as if she were the only one for you. Turns out it was all an act! I thought you had really turned over a new leaf like those TV dramas!"

Finally, Jaxon ended that long kiss.

His voice was magnetic and husky, carrying a lazy and raffish air.

"I do love Evelyn. She is the only woman I want to marry. I can pamper her, love her, and grow old with her. But for her sake... giving up all other women at such a young age?"

Jaxon laughed loudly and kissed Lena, who was panting on his shoulder.

"That's just not acceptable."

Jaxon carried Lena ashore and laid her on a lounge chair.

Someone quickly wrapped him in a towel, which Jaxon then draped over Lena.

Someone asked, "Jaxon, are you going back tonight?"

Lena looked up at Jaxon with slightly reddened eyes.

Jaxon crouched down and affectionately pinched her face.

"Evelyn cares about Lena the most. I’m only second to her. Now that Lena is upset, naturally, I have to stay with Lena."

He waved behind him. "Albert, send a message to Evelyn, saying I got drunk and will sleep here tonight. I’ll pick her up tomorrow for the rehearsal."

As tears welled up in my eyes, my phone buzzed.

Albert sent me a message.

"Evelyn, Jaxon got drunk and won’t be coming home tonight. Go to sleep early. He will personally pick you up for the rehearsal tomorrow."

I stood there for a long time.

I thought a lot.

My parents died when I was very young, and I was fostered by my uncle.

My cousin often bullied me while my aunt turned a blind eye.

I didn’t dare complain. Lena did it for me. When I couldn’t act, Lena acted for me.

Academically, I was sharper than Lena.

I shared half of the prize money with her.

She was an only child and not fond of studying.

In our senior year of high school, I dragged her through nightly study sessions, tutoring her.

I brainwashed her with dreams of our future success.

Eventually, we both got into a university in this city.

In our sophomore year of college, I found out my boyfriend was cheating.

Upon hearing this, Lena immediately rushed to their hotel room and beat up both the cheater and his mistress.

In our graduation year, we rented a master bedroom together, uncertain about our future.

Every night under one blanket, we tirelessly brainwashed each other about becoming rich enough to support ourselves.

"May we never forget each other in our riches."

We grew up close. I considered her family early on.

Maybe my family didn’t love me unconditionally, but I believed she would.

So when faced with her betrayal, I couldn’t even muster the energy to confront her.

The person who once stood up for me against another woman had become my fiancé’s mistress.

My complete trust was repaid with brutal betrayal.

When I left Rose Highland, the moon hung high overhead. My body felt ice-cold.

I remembered my past with Jaxon.

At twenty-five years old, I became the lead designer of the top wedding design company in Bemamoa.

During that manor wedding setup managed by Albert, due to staying up all night overseeing the venue on an empty stomach, my blood sugar dropped, and I collapsed into a half-meter-deep fountain.

Jaxon happened to pass by and saved me.
