Chapter 1

Two days before the wedding, my best friend urged me to test my fiancé.

She didn't believe that Jaxon, a notorious playboy, could change his ways.

Her instincts were usually accurate, so I created a fake account overnight and tried to seduce him.

Jaxon responded by verbally lashing out at me as harshly as possible.

Just when I was caught between laughter and tears, he suddenly replied to me.

"This boring game ends here."

"I don't mess around with other women except for you two."

"Lena, next time you want to flirt, use your main account."

Lena was my best friend.

After quickly processing these messages, I felt a chill spread through my veins.

I closed my eyes in panic and pinched myself.

Amidst the frantic beating of my heart, I confirmed it wasn't a dream.

Jaxon had cheated with Lena.

But how could this be?

Weren't they supposed to dislike each other?

Lena thought Jaxon wasn't good enough for me, that he had nothing to offer but his wealth.

Jaxon found Lena annoying. She always encouraged us to break up whenever we argued.

The sound of a video call pulled me from my thoughts.

I numbly hung up.

"Why didn’t you answer the video call?" Jaxon asked me.

"You're not crying, are you?"

"Come to Rose Highland. I'll cheer you up."

"Don’t worry, I’ll still treat you well after we get married."

"You’ll have everything Evelyn does."

"Including me."

I stared blankly at the phone screen, feeling as if my soul was being ripped from my body.

Tears fell heavily.

Through blurred vision, I recalled bringing Lena to this villa for the first time.

Without any guidance, she knew exactly where my bedroom and walk-in closet were.

She had her phone connected to the Wi-Fi already, claiming it was a lucky guess.

Jaxon's cat was unusually affectionate towards her because she said it might be because she smelled like me.

Yet the cat was always cold towards me. Even toys and treats hardly tempted it.

But it exposed its belly to Lena the first time they met.

And then there were the clothes, bags, lipsticks, and cosmetics at Lena’s place that matched mine.

Lena claimed that they were gifts from suitors.

I excitedly gossiped while she hesitated and seemed unwilling to talk.

I thought she was just shy, but she was actually feeling guilty.

I also remembered them arguing over who was more favored in front of me during a shopping trip.

Sometimes, their tense exchanges ended in laughter.

And I foolishly rejoiced at their apparent easing of relations.

It turned out that they had been deceiving me all along.

Crying left my eyes swollen and my head dizzy.

I grabbed my car keys and drove straight to Rose Highland.

Rose Highland was another residence of Jaxon's, where he housed his groomsmen.

They were having a party there today.

Jaxon was there.

And so was Lena.

Through the iron gates, I saw them by the pool.

Jaxon seemed drunk. His handsome face flushed with a hint of red.

His gaze hazy, he whispered in Lena’s ear.

Lena smiled coquettishly and pushed him into the pool.

The groomsmen around them cheered teasingly.

Jaxon emerged from the water, shook his wet hair back, and flashed a mischievous grin.
