chapter 002

Chapter two.

Camilla's POV….

Lenox had just dropped a bomb on me and my mind was still in disarray. His cold and motionless voice rang in my ears, crushing hard on my heart like a tornado. The hopes of me saving my grandfather vanished and I felt hopeless.

I was still coming to terms with what Lenox has just said, when I felt something cold smash on my face. I did not have time to evade and the red wine landed squarely on my face, making me shiver from the sudden coldness.

I did not even have to turn around to know whose handwork it was. I knew for certain that it was Elisa who had done it.

“Slu*t, how dare you try to seduce my fiancée?” Elisa questioned. Her voice was loud enough to attract everyone’s attention in the room. I shuddered and almost wanted to burry myself in the ground.

I was already a mess for having wine poured all over me. And now Elisa could not wait to attract the attention of everyone in the room, wouldn’t I be city N laughing stock come tomorrow. Thankfully, there were no journalists today to take pictures.

Everyone loved gossip and they all turned their curious stares towards us. There intense stares and their gossipy gaze made me feel like a thousand ants were crawling on my skin.

“Go and look at yourself in the mirror before you stand before people!” Elisa spat. “Pathetic!”

I was shocked by the sudden outburst. This woman just poured wine on me and she was now accusing me of seducing her fiancée? Where was her shame? I could not comprehend what was going on in her mind.

“Just look at yourself. I am starting to wonder how you managed find an invitation to such a grand place. Do you think this is a place a commoner like you could enter?” Elisa continued.

Everyone was now looking at us and they were wondering what was going on. She did not have to look around to see the look on their faces.

I felt like running away but because I haven’t achieved my goal, I could not. And whether I ran or not, these people would still gossip about me, “Lenox please. I just need three hundred thousand dollars and I will never bother you again. We can write IOU and I will pay you as soon as possible.” I ignored the taunting gaze of Elisa and spoke to Lenox gently.

Lenox looked at me coldly and said nothing. I could not tell what he was thinking and it was making me extremely nervous.

“How shameless of you!” Elisa said with an angry growl. She must be calling me shameless for having the audacity to ask Lenox for money.

But she can call me shameless as much she wants, I don’t care. What I cared about was what Lenox thought and whether he was going to help me or not.

So I completely ignored her and looked at Lenox. I could not hide the fear in my eyes as I waited for him to say whatever he had to say. With a little anticipation in my heart, I looked at him.

But what Lenox said next crushed any hope that had manifested in my heart completely. I could not believe that such words had actually come out of his mouth.

“Three hundred thousand dollars?” Lenox asked in a grim voice. “Do you think that I am a money-making machine? Since you managed to find yourself here with your slutty moves, why don’t you tell your old men that your grandfather is dying? I am sure one night with you cost a lot and it won’t be hard for you to raise three hundred dollars, am I right?

I stumbled a few steps back. I felt like I was walking in cold ice and at the same time, I was submerged in a pool of lava.

My body felt cold and warm at the same time and I could not tell what I was feeling exactly.

Isabela was also hurting pretty badly and she could not help but whine in my mind.

So, he also believed that I was involved in something morally inappropriate. Just because Elisa had uttered a single sentence, he had already jumped to conclusion? Of all the people, shouldn’t he be the most knowledgeable about my character?

I took a few steps back like I have just seen a ghost. Was this really the Lenox that I knew?

To make matters worse, someone pushed me from behind. I found myself on the floor in a sorry state, beside the feet of the people I hated the most. Was God bent on turning me into a joke tonight? If so, wouldn’t he have at least given me a head up to be mentally prepared.

“Cousin sister, is that you?” the person who had pushed from the ground asked in a surprised voice.

I felt a tremble of fear in my heart after hearing the familiar voice. What was Brenna doing here? Didn’t she say that she won’t be coming to this year’s ballroom party and even gave me her invitation card?

Looking at the already spoilt dress that I was told to not leave a mark, despair clouded my eyes. I was not afraid of Brenna but I was afraid of the punishment she will make me go through.

It’s like tonight, I pressed the wrong switch for everything.

“I did not know that you were borrowing my dress to come to the party, if I had known, I would have given you something that was more presentable.” Brenna said, she looked like she was feeling really sorry for what she did but her intentional words were interpreted differently by different people.

I was shocked when I heard her words? What was she talking about? That she did not know if I was coming to this party? Who was it that gave me the invitation? Now that is also my fault? Had I always been this easy to fool?

“So, the dress that you are wearing is not even yours? I told you that you should look at yourself in the mirror first. I just wonder how thick your skin is!” Elisa did not let the opportunity go by as she added salt on my already wounded and disoriented heart.

I was too confuse to think about anything.

“Miss Martin, please forgive my sister if she has offended you in any way. She does not know any better and she has always been clumsy.” Brenna immediately took the opportunity to align herself with Elisa.

What did I not know better and in what way was I clumsy? Isn’t Elisa the one to accuse her of seducing her fiancé when she was totally innocent? Was Brenna really her sister?

I coldness in my heart spread to the core. Id did not know if there was any humanity left in this world. I was so pitiful to think that my cousin would really help me. But I think I overestimated myself? I knew that Brenna would not wait for me to die, so what made me think that she was going to help me?

And if I was not mistaken, Brenna must have pushed me on purpose. Now they have ganged up together to bully me and wanted me to apologize? Hah, they can as well kill me. There was no way I was going to lower myself to their level.

I know that I did nothing wrong and although I might be fighting a losing battle, there was no way I am going to apologize. Kneel before them, fat chance!

Everyone had already gathered around us and I could hear their whispers very clearly. They were afraid to offend Elisa and Lenox thus no one dared to give me a helping hand. They thought that I will implicate them and Elisa might shift her anger to them.

They were all hypocrites who only knew to kiss the asses of those who had power, I could not be bothered with them.

I was still thinking about how to let myself out of this sticky situation, a thundering voice akin to an angry lion entered the room, “What is going on here?” the man, with a majestic presence, strode into the room followed by a group of people who seemed to be his bodyguards or rather his betas. They were all dressed in black, and their expression spelt one thing, coldness!

Everyone was stunned and no one dared to look at the man in eyes. The lively room was deathly still and everyone was afraid to even breath. I also did not dare to breath too loud as I was afraid of the consequences.
