Chapter 6
Sanaya
I descended the stairs and came to the living room, seeing Mom was in the kitchen as well so I picked up an orange from the fruit basket that was on the table and started to peel it off to eat.
"Sanaya?" She calls me.
"Yes, Maa?"
"Where are the other crocks?" She asked.
I didn't turn around because I wouldn't have had the courage to tell her about last night, but now I have to answer her, something which she can't get a doubt on.
"Actually….Ma, I mistakenly broke them!" I spitted out like a stupid, at least, it wasn't a lie neither a full truth.
"Yeah and Latika told me about it already since you ran to your room last night like you saw a ghost." She said with a hint of a smirk in her tone.
He wasn't a ghost but an idiot flirty devil.
"I am sorry, Ma, I should have told you earlier."
"Yes, you should but anyway, your dad isn't home yet so I want you to bring some materials I need to make crocks from the market, " She says, giving me some money and the basket.
"Okay, I will get it," I said in relief that at least, I would not get scolded by her as I went to the market with my pink cycle which was gifted to me by my uncle Kamal on my 18th birthday.
I went to the market and got all the necessary things I wanted to get for mom and on my way back home, I mistakenly scratched a white car with my cycle when I was taking a turn. Shit! This car looks expensive to some rich man.
I was about to apologize when my eyes traveled to the owner of the car who didn't seem to be angry but mischievously smiled at me.
"Hello, Sanaya!" He said, amused.
Not this flirty devil again!

"Chote Kunwar sa, Where do you want me to take you?" Deepak asks, looking at me through the front mirror.
"I don't know, anywhere away from home," I said, bored with the fact, how controlling my dad is over my life.
He shoots me a glance in confusion, "Why, does something happen?"
I rolled my eyes at all the things that have happened to me, "Yeah, dad wants me to meet the local villagers to know their problems personally as his son, so it will help him to win in the upcoming election."
"Ohh, I see. It's a good thing, what are you upset about?"
"I don't want anyone to know the real me, I am not comfortable when someone treats me like a prince who is from outer space rather than a normal human being." I spat, angrily.
Can't I live a simple life?
"I can understand but he is your father, he is Thakur sa, he wants the best for his son and people."
"Yeah, Yeah, he wants best, what a joke," I mumbled the last statement under my breath. If he really wanted the best for his son and people wouldn't have made him do all this instead he would have come here by himself.
"So, let's start with the nearby village if our plans today are to meet people." He says, pulling over the car near a market.
"Why have we stopped here?" I questioned.
"Actually, I wanted to do a bit of shopping for my wife and children because I am thinking of taking a few days off from my work. It's been a long time since I met them face-to-face." He said as I caught a sad glimpse in his eyes, "It won't take long."
"Okay, no problem, I am sure they will be happy about it." I said as I took out some money from my pocket, "And buy toys for your children and wife from my side as well."
"No, Kunwar sa, I can't take your money!"
"Consider this my gift for your family."
"Really?" He asks in disbelief.
I nodded, giving him a small smile and in return, he brightly grinned at me, saying thanks. It feels great to see somebody so happy. He left as I sat inside with nothing special I had to do except to play games.
Abruptly, I heard the sound of something like 'Starch' from outside, finding a girl had scratched the car with her stupid pink cycle. My anger soon melted into a big grin when I saw her face, she is the same girl from last night. I opened the car's window to look at her.
She gazed up, scared in the realization of what she had done. She was, I guess, on the way to apologize when her eyes met mine and her scared face replaced by skepticism, anger, and confusion of seeing me here.
"Hello, Sanaya!" I greeted, waving my hand.
Her mouth opens up in shock, "You again?!"
"Yes, me again, you seem so surprised."
"Surprised? Is that too seeing you? Nice joke." She says, chuckling, making me chuckle too.
"Right, at least you liked it." I winked.
She rolled her eyes and tried to walk away when I stopped her, "Wait, where's my sweet apology?" I asked, earning a raised brow from her.
"What do you mean?"
"I meant you just gave my car a big dent, ain't you gonna apologize for it with your sweet voice since I know, you can't pay for your mistake…" I teased, trying to look serious but failed badly.
"No way! You are the one who almost hit me with the car, then broke my crocks and now your car damaged my cycle too!" She spat out on me, furiously.
"Calm down, Angry butterfly. It's not my fault, okay? If there are no lights on the road at night and come to the crocks, I am still ready to pay for it." I said with a wink.
"Don't call me, butterfly! Neither do I want your money! And you know what it's the government's fault that they haven't managed to bring proper electricity to the villages and careless people like you get excuses to make after almost hitting someone with their cars!"
"Excuse me! Sweet angry butterfly, I don't run the government that you are blaming me now!"
"No! But you rich fellows steal taxes that can help them to build a basic facility in a rural area as well!" She shouted at me and stormed off, leaving me in a shocking state.
"Isn't she the same girl from yesterday?" Deepak asks, walking to me.
"Yeah…" I managed to let out.
"Okay, I bought everything I needed so let's go inside the village." He says, putting his shopping bags inside of the car.
"No, take me to the district magistrate's office." I seriously told him that he didn't ask me any question in return, he just gave me a short nod and drove the car towards where I wanted to go.
We reached there soon, and I was literally so angry about the fact that Sanaya gave me the tag of some random rich fellow who steals taxes like it's not her fault at all, but I can't take the blame for something haven't done. I will talk to the collector and will try to know why there's no electricity in the village?!
Wasting no time, I stormed in, some of the peons tried to stop me from going in but I went already inside as I banged my hand on his table, bringing the Collector's attention to me. He was another old guy at the job.
"Sorry, sir, we tried to stop him." They told him. He looks up at me with curiosity.
"No problem, this young man seems so desperate to talk to me, I guess." The collector spoke whose name I found Ravi with the help of his name board on the table.
They nodded and left as he turned to me, smiling, "So what's your matter, gentleman?"
"Why is there no electricity in the villages?" I came to the point directly in anger.
He narrowed his brows at me, "And who are you to ask me, Mister?"
I chuckled, "I am Samrath Devendra suryavanshi!" I knew if I told him who I am then that's how he is going to take me seriously.
He got up from his seat and joined his hands in greetings, "Khamma Ghani, Kunwar sa, please sit, do you want tea or something?" He asks, indicating at the chair, I sighed in frustration as I sat down.
"No, I am good."
"Okay, your father was about to come to meet me, you could've come with him."
"Doesn't matter, just answer my damn question."
He heaved a sigh, putting his hands on the table with fingers crossed and the lines of worry were visible on his forehead, "Kunwar sa, is this a stunt to win people's vote? Hence, everyone knows your father is standing in the elections."
I moved my head to another side, trying to control my anger. Why do they need to always join everything from the elections?!
"No, I am not doing any kind of stunt to win votes, I am very serious, you must have known that if there is no electricity in the village even for streets, it can cause a big accident someday," I said, coldly, in a matter-of-fact manner.
He grins like I just told him a joke, "You know what, Kunwar sa, I can get that you want to hide this publicity stunt from me. But trust me, you don't have-"
I interrupted him as I got up from the chair and grabbed his collar, "How many times do I need to tell you that I am not doing any stunt so you better answer me before I use this against you in the upcoming election! Doesn't matter if we win or not but you are surely gonna lose your position and the great media will help me ruin your entire career in a matter of seconds!!" I threatened him, making him gulp in fear.
"I apologize for the inconvenience, Kunwar sa, but don't worry, just give me a week and I will bring electricity to all the villages." He said, "I promise."
I nodded, leaving his collar, "And if you failed to keep your promise….Ready to face the consequences." I warned him and left his office.
