Chapter 4: Angry revelation
Kai has never been rejected in his life, Maverick would be the first person and he was not ready to let him go.
His whole body was burning in anger but still, he decided to leave maverick and go think of what to do to him despite the anger.
Becca was still standing outside the room; she wondered what those men came to do because they did not spend up to 10 minutes in with her dad. She stood up from the chair she was seating on and carved her brow, “Who were those men?” she asked herself and just then, a phone call from Alan came in.
Her worries were immediately vanished, a smile crept her face as she swiped the screen to answer the call.
“Hi babe” Alan’s soft voice came up and she smiled.
“Baby, well I am good thank you, how are you too?”
“I’m doing great; I’d be coming over soon. I’ve missed you love and I am sorry for not calling you this morning, I was just over occupied.” He sincerely apologized and she smiled,
“Its fine love, I can’t wait to see you. When would you be coming?” she replied
“In less than an hour, where should we meet because I can’t wait to hold you in my hands again.” He said to her, her cheeks were slowly heating up. Becca covered her face with her palm, she was already blushing.
“Uhm, I would drive home and that should be better.” She replied
“Yeah, that’s fine then.” He replied
“I have a big surprise for you but not so soon.”
“Oh, why? You shouldn’t have told me then, now I am so curious.” She whined
“I am sorry love.” He giggled and she rolled her eyes.
“Fine, no problem just come, I can’t wait.” She replied with a shrug.
“Yes baby, so see you later.” He replied and she made a ‘hmm’ sound before she ended the call.
Becca stared at her phone screen and could only blush, “Alan, you’d never cease bringing smile to my face.” She said to no one in particular.
Some of the maids around could only carve their brows at her, “I think miss is deeply in love.” One of them said
“Yes, with her boyfriend I know, I feel he might propose to her soon.” another one said and got slapped on her neck
“Ah!” she yelped lowly
“What do you mean? How could you just say it?”
“Yeah, she is right, I have been observing Mr. Alan.” Another one said with a shrug
“Y’all aren’t minding your businesses right? If he gets engaged to her, there is no problem at all, they are even perfect match.” She replied in a whisper
“That’s it, enough… get back to work now you all.” The chief maid amongst them said and they reluctantly did as they were told.
Becca then remembered she wanted to go see her dad, she left what she was doing and cat walked to the meeting room, “Wait, where is my dad?” she asked one of the men she found around.
“He went to the room, I mean the apartment.” He replied
“Oh!”
“How come I never saw him?” she laughed lowly
“Maybe because you weren’t watching or he passed through the back door.” He replied and she nods her head.
“Oh, okay thank you.” She replied politely before she turned around to leave.
Meanwhile,
Mr. Maverick stormed into his house, his face flushed with anger and frustration. Becca, sensing his turmoil, was waiting in the living room, she even arrived before he did, concern etched across her face. She rushed to his side, her voice filled with worry.
"Dad, what happened? You look furious." She asked him immediately
Mr. Maverick's eyes locked onto hers, his voice trembling with a mixture of anger and disbelief.
"That damned Kai William! He had the audacity to barge into my office with his goons, making absurd demands. He thinks he can control everything."
Becca's gaze narrowed, her curiosity overwhelming her.
“Who is he dad? What’s about him?” she asked
“I’ve told you about mafia’s right honey?” he asked her and she nods her head, she remember her father doing so.
“Kai William is one of the dangerous Mafia’s, and he is a leader of his clan.” he replied and her eyes grew wide.
Her father had told her how dangerous and brutal they could be, she could not believe the person she locked eyes with earlier was one and not just that, but the boss.
“What?”
"What did he want, Dad? What did he demand from you?"
Maverick took a deep breath, his voice filled with contempt.
“He wanted a share in all my businesses, from the import and export company to the construction business and even the nightclubs. Can you believe that? As if I'd ever entertain such a ludicrous proposition.”
Becca's brows furrowed as she processed the information, her disbelief mirroring her father's.
“Kai William? The notorious Mafia leader? How could he think he could just demand a stake in everything you've built?”
“He had better work for his; he has all the money so why is he chasing yours? What the hell is his problem?”
Maverick's frustration turned into a bitter smile as he shook his head.
“He's delusional, Becca. Thinks he can control everything through fear and intimidation. But I won't let him have an inch of what I've worked so hard for.”
Becca's mind raced, her determination solidifying.
“We won't let him win, Dad. We'll fight back, expose his true nature, and protect what's rightfully ours.”
Maverick's pride swelled as he looked at his resolute daughter.
"That's my girl. We'll stand tall against this tyranny, together."
“I am sure if your mother was here, she would not tolerate it either.” He added and a weak smile graced her lips.
“Yes dad.” She replied as she pulled him into a hug
Becca had always wondered about the absence of her mother in their lives. It wasn't a story of abandonment but rather one of heartache and the pursuit of dreams. A memory surfaced in her mind, a poignant moment that shaped the dynamic between Becca, her mother, and her father.
Years ago, when Becca was just a young girl, her mother had been a talented artist with dreams of making it in the art world. Maverick, however, was determined to provide financial stability for the family, driving a wedge between him and Becca's mother. Their dreams clashed, leading to heated arguments and mounting tension.
In a tearful farewell, Becca's mother had made a difficult decision: to pursue her art career and find her own path, separate from the constraints of their relationship. It was a moment filled with heartbreak, but also one of profound love and sacrifice for the sake of pursuing their individual dreams.
While the absence of her mother had left a void in Becca's life, it was a void filled with deep understanding and a shared appreciation for the complexities of following one's passion. The experience had taught Becca the importance of personal growth, resilience, and embracing her own aspirations, even in the face of adversity.
As Becca and her father stood united against the looming threat of Kai William, her mother's absence served as a constant reminder of the strength and determination that ran through her veins - a spirit that would fuel her fight against the tyrant who sought to control their lives.
“Do you think I should forgive mom for what she did?”
“I do not think I can dad, I think I won’t.” she replied as she pulled away.
“I know honey, why did you suddenly ask?”
“Why do I feel like she would come soon for me?”
“Wouldn’t it be good? After all she promised to visit you since.”
“That has been over 8 years, she already broke her promise, let’s forget about her dad…. I would be going home soon.” she replied
“Oh, why?”
“Um, Alan would be coming over and I need to entertain him… would you come over too?” she asked him and he sighed.
“Baby, dad’s got to do some work, I will join you guys later or another time.” He replied and she nods her head.
“Come here to daddy.” Mr. Maverick said as he stretched out his hands to her, welcoming her into his hands.
Becca giggled as she threw her hands around him, she pulled away slowly as he placed a gently kiss on her forehead.
“I will do all my best to keep you.”
