Chapter 40

It wouldn't be love if you weren't scared.

Go back.

I put my hand on his hip and, even if this contact was "professional" in the first place, I felt a sweet sensation come over me in contact with his fleshy body.

Damn she looked sexy in that dress.

The servants opened the door for us and we rushed into the huge room.

Everyone instinctively turned to us.

I stayed with Elisabeth only a few minutes but this lapse of time is enough to associate her with my wife in the head of all these people.

So they wouldn't try anything with it. My reputation followed me and the whole population of Russia knew who I was and what I was capable of.

No fool would dare to covet what is mine.

I freed myself from her before joining the owner, leaving her alone and strangely creating a lack.

How come I want to keep her close?

I shook my head before getting to the groups and patting Valentine on the back.

The latter turned around and, when he saw me, his face lit up.

- My friend ! He exclaims. I didn't know if you would come.

- I'm here Valentin, I was slightly annoyed.

I hated being commented on.

Who was he to reproach me for something? Nothing and nobody.

- I'm glad you came, and moreover in charming company, he said, sliding a glance towards Elisabeth.

She was still in full contemplation of the room and it made her look like little girls.

Damn why does she have to have that irresistible look on her face?

- She's mine

- Of course, Valentin apologizes immediately.

And, seeing that he had advanced on a slippery slope, he immediately changed the subject. It was better for him, moreover, because I refused for a minute that one of his men would make Elisabeth his prey.

She was mine, I had to break her little heart, not another.

She is mine.

In the middle of a conversation with two Russian businesswomen, I suddenly heard the music change completely. Classical music was replaced by old American music.

I turned automatically to the orchestra and saw Elisabeth take off her shoes before heading, smiling, towards the center of the room.

From the first words, she threw off her shoes and began to dance without worrying about people's eyes.

Her hair would twirl against her face determined by the need to be happy and her hips would sway to the rhythm of the music.

Paying little attention to the looks sometimes filled with criticism, sometimes filled with mockery, she walked towards two girls just as young as her and pulled them by their hands, dragging them with her right in the middle of the track.

The three graces began to move to the frenzied rhythm of the revanchist music of a lost love under the gaze of all the guests.

They were laughing out loud together while I couldn't take my eyes off of Elisabeth.

Her posterior slammed right and left in time with the song, and her smile warmed the room.

She had absolutely no idea how much, at that very moment, women were jealous of her while men wanted her.

Her mouth mimicked the singer's voice, backing up, which made her so rebellious.

The two teenagers dancing next to her were certainly prettier in theory, yet they weren't the ones that stood out.

It was Elizabeth.

Elisabeth and her banal physique, very far from the mannequin size that I usually coveted.

However, it was she who was at the very moment in the spotlight, it was she who so mistakenly resembled a goddess of Ancient Greece.

She was driving me crazy. She was there, a few steps from me, and yet it seemed to me that I would never be able to reach her, to make her mine. She was indomitable and rebellious, like the forbidden fruit.

Desires for murder came to my mind when I saw the unhealthy eyes of all these men resting on his fleshy little body in motion.

Just by those looks I felt like they were encroaching on my territory and I hated it.

When the second song started, people started to follow the movement and start dancing.

All sheep.

I chuckled that they'd headed to the dance floor only because Elisabeth looked like she was actually having fun.

She had broken the rules, once again, and overcome the taboos that horrified those of my social rank.

She had also reduced my certainties to nothing.

I was sure she was playing a role, I couldn't believe it anymore.

I was sure she was like Sonya, I wasn't sure anymore.

I was sure I hated her, now I knew it was wrong.

But what was this feeling that pushed me to declare her mine in the eyes of all?

Why was it so hard for me to get away from her?

This girl was decidedly complicated and the feelings she aroused in me were complex as well.
