Chapter 4
"I'll bring you and Emi again tomorrow, let's talk about that." He waved at me, obviously wanting to get an answer to what he was asking. Even I couldn't answer his question.
I went out and waved to him even though I couldn't see him because the windshield of his car was tinted. I waited for him to drive away.
As soon as I entered the hospital, someone grabbed my wrist and pulled me to walk. I was very surprised that it was Doc Cian and we were on our way to his room at the hospital.
"Hi, Raffa. Did I surprise you?" He greeted me when we entered his room, looking like he had just arrived.
"Quite a bit, doc."
He laughed. "What the hell is that, Cian, when it's just the two of us together. I've been telling you that over and over again."
"I'm sorry, I'm not good at it." I said bowing.
"Haha! It's obvious. That's why I sent you here because I want you to see your Harris before you jump into your duty," he said casually while putting on his uniform.
I was dumbfounded. I was nervous and I could feel how fast my heart was beating. Why so fast? I didn't prepare for this moment because I thought that I would see him again in the next few days.
"There you go again, Raffa. You get stunned and pale when I mention Harris' name." I looked at Doc Cian as if he was confused by what I was doing.
"Doc.."
"Why did you have a different emotion when you found out that you will be taking care of Harris, Raffa?" Doc Cian suddenly asked me.
I felt nervous. What should I say to him? I can't tell him that Harris is my ex and even more so I can't tell him that he is Emi's father.
"W-because, I-I've seen him before. When he was in the hospital, he was another friend of yours." I suddenly said remembering that. I am thankful that I remembered you again.
That happened a few months ago. His other friend--- Callidon was hospitalized. Yes, I know them. Alrin, Harren, Callidon and Harris have been together since high school. I'm not sure if Doc Cian was also with them before because Harris never introduced him to me. They also knew me before, but maybe because of the time we haven't seen each other, they might have forgotten me. A lot has changed..
"Ah, that's why you seem to know him. Are you ready to see your patient?" He suddenly asked. My heart beat faster.
I'm not yet ready..
"Doc...why?" I couldn't think of a reason for not agreeing.
Suddenly he looked at his cellphone. "Because Beryl just left, Alrin isn't there yet. There's no guard there yet, I was going to check on him. Let's go?" He said to me after looking at his cellphone.
"S-alright, Doc." I want to scold myself for agreeing. I'm not yet ready. But I can't do anything because it's my job. I have to find out about his situation and I have to follow Doc Cian's orders.
He let me out of his room first then he went out. We walked together to the room where Harris was confined.
Every time I walk, my heart beats faster and faster. My knees feel weak and it's hard to walk. Doc Cian talks a lot about what I should do but I don't seem to hear anything.
I will see him again, in this situation..
Doc Cian stopped at the end of the room. He opened it slowly so I was more nervous to hear the door open. My heart feels like it's going to burst from beating so hard.
Doc Cian had entered the room but I still stayed outside.
"Raffa, why again? I just treated you like that to the patient. You seem very scared. Are you really all right?"
I nodded to him. "Yes,"
"Come in," he ordered me. My heart beat was not normal when I stepped inside. I don't look at his bed and walk with my head down. He stopped next to the bed so I also stopped there and sat next to him. I was just looking at the floor.
"So, Raffa. He is Harris, who will be your patient. And you are broken, he is Raffa, he will be your personal nurse. He is also my friend and I trust him a lot, so when you wake up, don't hurt is it a head?" Doc still talked to Harris even though he was asleep. Only then did I know deeply what they had in common.
"Look, even Raffa is afraid of your appearance. He doesn't want to look at you. Maybe he thinks you're the floor. Haha!" He actually managed to crack a joke at times when I almost fainted from nervousness.
"I really feel different, Raffa e. Do you know Harris more than I expected you to know him? The Rafflesia in front of me is very different." Doc Cian seems to be predicting me.
It's impossible, it's impossible for him to notice. So I slowly lifted my head towards the bed. I started looking at the end of the bed, her legs in a cast, to her hand with syringes. I immediately shed tears when I noticed the many wounds on his body.
It hurts. It hurts so much to just see you, in this situation.
I bit my lip when I felt the rush of my emotions to stop my crying. I don't want to cry. I can't cry.
I think I gave all my strength to look him in the face. That's how weak I was when I finally saw his face up close.
His face was so peaceful, it was not obvious that he was in pain. Even though he had a bandage on his head and still had wounds on his face, I could see how much he had changed. He matured more and became more handsome.
My tears kept flowing, as I remembered our relationship eleven years ago...
